George Hunt Construction Reviews (2)

George Hunt did not complete the work he agreed to in the contract In fact, he nickled and dimed me--doing the easy work first and then setting up projects that would be disasters if left as they were (to ensure that he would be wanted/needed back right away) I knew he was hurting for money since he asked for a check early When I couldn't afford to pay him early, I gave him a $gift card to PF Changs that he never thanked me for In all, I paid him $ I promised to pay him the remaining $1,when I got my tax return, but he never came back to complete the work His practices suggest that he is insecure about the quality and pricing of his own work He goes low on price but then costs somehow start to escalate--so he takes advantage of the fact that when a customer COMMITS, he or she is usually more willing to pay more at that point Why must he strong-arm people to be invited back? Unethical business practices He left my laundry room un-tiled (tiles are still in the garage) He left extraordinarily heavy bags of something that turned to rock in the moisture-heavy garage (that were hard to lug to the curb on garbage day)He left very heavy containers of grout in inconvenient places that would make it hard for me to walk around them (as a constant reminder that my life would be inconvenient and in upheaval until he fixed it) He left a massive pile up of his own junk on a bewooden pallet in my garage--which made me fear that I or one of my kids would turn our ankles having to walk over it to get back and forth to the fridge (On that issue, I requested that he keep his materials in the back of his truck--which he reluctantly agreed to.) Having a clear path to move freely in my home is important to me, and I didn't like that he didn't respect that and was either insensitive to it or--more likely--used it as a ploy to get me to want him to come back FAST And he took a Mountain Dew from my fridge without asking for it (which led me to accuse of my kids, since even THEY aren't allowed to take things from the fridge without asking first)! What he did do? Replaced ceiling fans for me Fixed one outlet Installed ceiling tiles in the laundry room (great job on that!) and replaced a potentially hazardous condition above the rafters (where the fluoerescent lights weren't hardwired but connected to a electrical outlet with a cord that had the safety prong shaved off so it would fit into an older-style two-pronged outlet) I had KNOWN something wasn't right up there since there was a strange flashing ballast issue, so anyway, I'm very grateful that George helped me prevent this potential fire hazard In his own drawn up work contract, George said, "I promise to provide all the labor necessary to complete the miscellaneous interior remodeling projects." That involved work in the master bathroom (he didn't do a fraction of that work--neither installed the new vanity nor painted the walls/ceiling), middle bathroom (he left drywall but didn't paint over it), the first floor bathroom (he installed the wrong toilet to the wrong bathroom), the basement bathroom (he did install that toilet but refused to change out the ceiling fan without additional money) What he did the most? Talk to his wife on the phone Share pictures of his daughter's gymnastic feats George has a gift of gab--and I love to talk too (but not at the expense of him having time to do the work he was contracted to complete) I called George TWICE asking him to return and finish the work On both occasions, he told me he was too busy and I should try him back in a few months or go with someone else This left me feeling very frustratedI did hire my ex husband to complete some of the work I hired a local handy man to complete other portions that couldn't wait But every time I walk into my laundry room, I'm reminded of how I got swindled by George And how he made fun of me--because at the time I was struggling with an amphetamine-psychosis episode which I wasn't even aware of and made some mistakes in my confusion that actually landed me in jail (Prescribed stimulant by my doctor that had eliminated my need for sleep which I thought was a good thing since I was a single mother and a busy online English professor.) I wasn't always thinking clearly What's HIS excuse?

George Hunt did not complete the work he agreed to in the contract. In fact, he nickled and dimed me--doing the easy work first and then setting up projects that would be disasters if left as they were (to ensure that he would be wanted/needed back right away).
I knew he was hurting for money since he asked for a check early. When I couldn't afford to pay him early, I gave him a $50 gift card to PF Changs that he never thanked me for. In all, I paid him $850. I promised to pay him the remaining $1,000 when I got my tax return, but he never came back to complete the work.
His practices suggest that he is insecure about the quality and pricing of his own work. He goes low on price but then costs somehow start to escalate--so he takes advantage of the fact that when a customer COMMITS, he or she is usually more willing to pay more at that point. Why must he strong-arm people to be invited back?
Unethical business practices. He left my laundry room un-tiled (tiles are still in the garage). He left extraordinarily heavy bags of something that turned to rock in the moisture-heavy garage (that were hard to lug to the curb on garbage day). He left very heavy containers of grout in inconvenient places that would make it hard for me to walk around them (as a constant reminder that my life would be inconvenient and in upheaval until he fixed it). He left a massive pile up of his own junk on a beat-up wooden pallet in my garage--which made me fear that I or one of my kids would turn our ankles having to walk over it to get back and forth to the fridge. (On that issue, I requested that he keep his materials in the back of his truck--which he reluctantly agreed to.) Having a clear path to move freely in my home is important to me, and I didn't like that he didn't respect that and was either insensitive to it or--more likely--used it as a ploy to get me to want him to come back FAST.
And he took a Mountain Dew from my fridge without asking for it (which led me to accuse of my kids, since even THEY aren't allowed to take things from the fridge without asking first)!
What he did do? Replaced ceiling fans for me. Fixed one outlet. Installed ceiling tiles in the laundry room (great job on that!) and replaced a potentially hazardous condition above the rafters (where the fluoerescent lights weren't hardwired but connected to a electrical outlet with a cord that had the safety prong shaved off so it would fit into an older-style two-pronged outlet). I had KNOWN something wasn't right up there since there was a strange flashing ballast issue, so anyway, I'm very grateful that George helped me prevent this potential fire hazard.
In his own drawn up work contract, George said, "I promise to provide all the labor necessary to complete the miscellaneous interior remodeling projects." That involved work in the master bathroom (he didn't do a fraction of that work--neither installed the new vanity nor painted the walls/ceiling), middle bathroom (he left drywall but didn't paint over it), the first floor bathroom (he installed the wrong toilet to the wrong bathroom), the basement bathroom (he did install that toilet but refused to change out the ceiling fan without additional money).
What he did the most? Talk to his wife on the phone. Share pictures of his daughter's gymnastic feats. George has a gift of gab--and I love to talk too (but not at the expense of him having time to do the work he was contracted to complete).
I called George TWICE asking him to return and finish the work. On both occasions, he told me he was too busy and I should try him back in a few months or go with someone else.
This left me feeling very frustrated. I did hire my ex husband to complete some of the work. I hired a local handy man to complete other portions that couldn't wait. But every time I walk into my laundry room, I'm reminded of how I got swindled by George.
And how he made fun of me--because at the time I was struggling with an amphetamine-psychosis episode which I wasn't even aware of and made some mistakes in my confusion that actually landed me in jail. (Prescribed stimulant by my doctor that had eliminated my need for sleep which I thought was a good thing since I was a single mother and a busy online English professor.) I wasn't always thinking clearly.
What's HIS excuse?
