George Moving & Storage, Inc. Reviews (12)

As per Jim V[redacted], Gary's Plumbing & Heating, Manager   "[redacted] calls in a work order to thaw out house that had frozen.  It said on the work order to thaw house as per estimate.  Igive all estimates and I never talked to [redacted] at all regarding frozen house.  It seems he...

had talked to Bill about the house and [redacted] and Bill came up with price.  I sent 3-4 guys over to house to try and thaw out and look at boiler lines.  We told owner what needed to be done and he said he would take care of the repairs.  We did have our electric heaters to thaw out house and lines, as cannot tell what broken or damaged until thawed.  We took out heaters as he asked, so house froze again as he had no heat to house. We then sent him a bill for work we had done and he refused to pay.  I reviewed bill and gave him an $800.00 credit, if pay remaining bill, he said he would. and we still never received payment.  Then he called back for on 2-4-16 we made repairs to the boiler and let him know what else needed done.  Then again did not hear from him.  Then he called again on  2-12-16 and we purged the boiler and gave him a list of what needed done, then again never heard back from him nor did we get paid.    I talked with [redacted] in January about bill and that I was not crediting anymore and he needed to pay bill.  Told me he would and that he would call later that nighyt which he never did.  He called us to do work at the house he owns in Laramie.  We did not call him, he needs to pay his bill.  I cannot fix the problem when he won't call back an also lies about the events.  [redacted] was his tenant at this time and he moved out because nothing was getting done and [redacted] will also testify about how many guys had working there trying to thaw house.  Sounds like Bill and [redacted]'s talk has got us where we are at, and Bill no longr works here.  [redacted] needs to step up and pay his bill and quit acting like he's being mis treated.  That is not our policy and has never been.  Thought I had this worked out with [redacted] but I guess he doesn't remember what he says."  ThanksJim V[redacted], Manager

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I never approved any work to be done on my property and never received a quote.  I also didn't have them come back again that must've been the  tenant that called. I would be willing to pay for that work. But I definitely did not want to do business with them after what happened the  first time.  The  tenant told me there was only one guy there and that he was lazy. The tenant no longer lives there because he was two months past due on rent. I have had no complaints  from my tenants that have lived there since July 2016. Thank you.
Regards,
[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I will pay the 2 invoices  (because you guys actually fixed something)  and your minimum service fee. As I told the lady on the phone that scheduled me in three times  that no work was supposed to be done without a quote and she said we could work something out to get you a quote. I asked Bill  after you left my property and called me how bad was plumbing and he couldn't tell me. It was clear to see, the pipes for the heat registers in the bedrooms were almost broke in half  and all needed to be replaced. When I talked to [redacted] and told him that I was billed $1500 for the work that was done he was shocked and said "There would be no way I would pay them that much they didn't do anything"  I would like to note that  [redacted] still owes me money. So of course he would be willing to write a letter.
 Sincerely with all respect

Review: George Moving was contracted to perform the packing and moving of the goods in my house. They packed and loaded all contents on 5/31/13. They were scheduled to deliver these goods to a storage unit that I had rented on 6/3/13. I was told by the driver that I would "really be helping them out" if they could deliver on 6/1/13. I agreed and met them at the storage unit on the night of 6/1/13. They spent the next hour unloading the truck and loading items into the storage unit. I requested that items be packed in the unit in a particular order so that I can get to the items that I need. This request was ignored. With the unit being 25' deep, my clothing and personal items were buried behind furniture and large appliances, making it impossible to get to these items myself. They packed many pieces of furniture in a manner that caused damage. I had dirty garden tools on top of my leather couch. A metal bookcase was stacked on top of a wooden dresser, scratching the top. Items were packed so high to the ceiling that the light in the storage unit was broken. During the unloading, boxes fell off of the truck, shattering a box of dishes. The movers showed no remorse over damaged boxes. (I can't imagine what else is broken inside of boxes, but I can't get to them to find out.) I've been asking that George Moving and Storage repack the unit in a manner where I can get to my personal items and relieve some furniture from further damage. I have not asked to file a claim to the damages. I simply want the unit repacked. George Moving and Storage refuses to accommodate my simple request.Desired Settlement: I am asking that they repack the storage unit in an orderly fashion so that I can retrieve items that I need while also protecting furniture from further damage. If they are willing to do this, I will forget about the broken items. I will even pay for the light that they broke in the storage unit. I simply ask for quality service.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] requested a Saturday deliver crew arrived at 5pm. Mr. [redacted] arrived 3 hours later at 8pm my driver immediately explained to the customer that the self storage unit was too small that not everything would fit. Driver separated items for shipper as he was unloading truck to take with him that evening. He also told the shipper he would come back on Monday when the self storage company was open to unload the balance of items as he would leave on the truck over the weekend. The shipper declined that offer instead my driver took items to his sister's home at 11pm at no charge.

Review: :I recently received an email from George Moving stating that I have a past due invoice in the amount of $229.00 from our move on January 9th, 2014. On that day, I had called [redacted], a coordinator at George Moving, upset about the workers that the company had sent to move our belongings. We previously used George Moving in May of 2013 and were completely satisfied with the move. This time, the company dispatched 3 people to our home. Shirley, a female driver who was unable to move anything & two young men in which one was either in training or unable to move much for some unknown reason. I called [redacted] that day to explain the situation as I knew with one mover, we would not be moved in an efficient manner. [redacted] stated she would discuss a refund of some type & get back to me. I never heard back from [redacted] until I called her back weeks later to ask about this additional charge. [redacted] suggested that I write to [redacted], part owner, and resolve this matter. My brother, [redacted], was also moving on the same day and had four movers sent to his home and the movers commented that we apparently received the wrong set of movers as my brother had a much lighter load to move. In addition to the lack of help we had, the employees stopped working several times to smoke and even smoked in the truck where our personal belongings were. This is not acceptable in any way nor do I feel I should pay for their smoke breaks. When the company called me for feedback on our move, I tried to return their calls but no one ever answered. I left messages, and still no return call.Desired Settlement: Remaining invoice amount to be disolved.

Response:

Ms. [redacted]'s move went over the estimate due to items being added from her previous move. She was only billed for 2 men and a van when actually 3 people performed her move. As for her brother's move he had 4 movers on his move and was only billed for 3 men. We have a six hour minimum on all moves actual time billed is expected to be paid. Per PUC regulations, signed Shipper's Information and signed Bill of Lading Ms [redacted] must pay actual charges.

Review: George Moving and Storage was contracted to move our belongings from PA to FL. On August 2nd the driver arrived at our home and informed us the first load on his truck had been underestimated so he may not be able to fit all of our items. I spoke with a George representative on Friday, August 2nd and she told me on Monday, August 5th another truck would be there to pick up the remaining items. The first truck delivered my items in FL on Tuesday, August 6th as scheduled and as of today, August 21st I have yet to see my other items or even get an estimated delivery date from George.Desired Settlement: I believe George should refund a portion of the money that was paid for the move.

Response:

Shipper was made aware by GMS office that [redacted] Driver had another shipment that went over therefore leaving an overflow. [redacted] Van Lines has this overflow shipment in queue to get assigned. Please contact [redacted] customer service regarding refund as this is their authority [redacted]. Keep in mind the balance of this shipment is going to a self storage unit in Florida. Thank you.

Review: My wife ([redacted]) and myself ([redacted]) used George Moving & Storage twice back in February when we lost our house at [redacted] to move our items into two storage units in Zelienople Pa. These units are not beside each other but in the same center (yard). The first team did not bring a big enough truck at that time so we had to schedule a second date, as it turned out we had two different teams doing the moving. To use the expression that both teams were as different as night and day would be an understatement. Whereas I cannot say enough good about the first team, I can say very little good about the second team, had we had the second team first we would have never used George’s again, we thought and expected the same team to show up the second time as the first time.

The first group put mats and towels down everywhere even on the ramps of their truck, whereas the second group used very little mats, rugs and towels. We had a few people at the house when the first team was there to help with the moving of some items, they told us they would prefer if we did not have anyone help them. When the second team showed up we had help there but it was to move things from the upstairs to the downstairs so the movers would only have to pull from the living room to save them time. Bernard my niece’s husband was helping us moving items to the living room, and then somehow got in on the moving of the bigger items with the moving crew. No one said anything to discourage him but acted like they expected his help.

When they moved the items they were much rougher handling them then the first crew, our full-size wooden entertainment center had two wheels broken off of it the way they ‘manhandled’ it out the door before it even made it on the truck. We have two (2) storage units to hold all the items from the house and the garage. The first unit was to hold most of the items from the house, and the second unit was to hold items from the basement, garage, outdoors and overflow from the house. Most of the items for the main (first) storage unit were loaded on the truck first, so there should have been little confusion as to what went to what storage unit. The items were placed in both storage units roughly and not stacked (packed) very organized and / or neatly. My wooden computer desk had so much weight piled on it that its legs broke.

When the second group was done and they presented me with the bill, the team leader then informed me that Bernard was not supposed to help, but his teammates were the ones asking for his help. The bill was much higher than I was expecting, it seems someone forgot to explain the minim charges and some other costs. I wrote on the bill that I was not able to verify the condition of the items since I was unable to watch them place the items in the storage units that day, due to the weather and my health issues. They did adjust the bill down a little bit but nothing where I felt it should be. Within the next few days both my wife and I contacted the movers and informed them of our dissatisfaction, [redacted] even replied extremely negatively to a follow-up survey. I stated I was so dissatisfied that if I had my way I wanted ALL my money back for the second move. We notified the moving company that due to the weather, my wife’s eye issues, my health issues , my hospital stay and just normal conditions that we would not be able to get in the units before the 90 days and they said to let them know the condition of the items when we could get back into the units.

When we were finally able to get into the storage units my wife called numerous times and did not receive any responses back. When she did get to speak to someone they said that they were not the proper person to tell and they would get that person to call her, it was like she was just being passed from one to another getting the run-around. Just recently [redacted] was informed that there was no record of her calls. [redacted] was trying to point out the mold on numerous items including her expensive wooden office desk, a child’s couch that folds into a bed and other items, plus let someone know of the damaged items. [redacted] was able to clean most of the mold and stuff off of the desk but the couch had to be thrown out, and one of our wooden tape cabinets was so destroyed it had to be thrown out. This is also when [redacted] noticed that numerous items were not placed into the right storage units along with how disorganized and sloppily the storage units were packed. My wooden computer desk’s leg was broken due to so much weight being placed on it. We used those ‘rubber-made’ type storage boxes instead of the typically cardboard moving boxes to pack most of the items, there are quite a few of those boxes crushed and broken because of the weight placed on them.

We sustained over $1,000 in damages to storage boxes, broken items, scratched and damaged items, when we have tried to contact George’s they keep insisting on the fact that it is past ninety (90) days so they can and /or will do nothing to help us. We did not want to throw out much more without them seeing some of the damaged items. Another one of their responses was that since it is a self-storage unit they cannot be responsible because they do not know who has been in there and what they may have moved. I totally understand that except for the fact that when we were first able to get back into the units [redacted] contacted them to notify them of how poorly the items were placed in the units and the damage done to some of the items that she could see from the front of the units. As I stated earlier they are stating there is no record of [redacted] contacting them.Desired Settlement: What I want to resolve this is at least the total amount of the second move refunded back to me.

Response:

In response to the below complaint, there were a number of personal and health issues on the part of the customer and the circumstancessurrounding this move which may have had an impact on the outcome. As the items were delivered into a self-storage unit, it was the customer’s responsibility to note specific damages at the time of unloading. At that time, no exceptions were noted to indicate that any damage occurred as a result of their move with us or while their goods were in our possession. The only notation that was made by customer stated, “‘did not check the condition of items”. They made the decision to not review the condition of the items as being unloaded. Since we do not know how long the articles remained in storage or who had access to them or who would have handled them, we are unable to assume responsibility for any of the damage now being claimed. With regard to the presence of mold on the items while in storage, that matter needsto be reviewed with the storage facility owner as that would not be a result of transporting the items from residence to the storage facility. That is a condition beyond the moving company’s control and any damages as a result of mold, would need to be presented to the storage facility management for review. The transportation charges for this move had been discounted as no overtime was charged due to the customer changing moving dates to take place on a weekend. No further concessions will be made on this matter.

Review: This company and I had a verbal agreement form the company to move my possessions on Thursday OCT. 3. I received a call from them on Oct. 1 saying that they were canceling my move. I told [redacted] the rep that this was unacceptable and called the office. Where I spoke with a very rude [redacted], she told me that they had overbooked and said "Listen you don't have a contract and would it be better if we just didn't show up?" I tried to explain to her that we did have a verbal contract but she talked over me telling me to find a new mover and then she hung-up the phone on me.Desired Settlement: I want to inform you of this companies UN-professionalism and misleading promises. I also believe I should be compensated $500.00 for the burden placed on me by their unethical business practices in having to find a new mover with 2 days notice.

Response:

As a professional in the service industry I have never been spoken to in a manner that this man did today. This customer personally attacked me by stating I have no integrity and criminal behavior. The fact that we specifically contacted the customer that GMS would not be able to service his move is a level of professionalism as most movers would not have shown up or had a horrible crew with no experience. I offered to re-schedule his move to another day but he never allowed me to speak. GMS acted responsibly as an origanization. This man is incredibley rude and any service provider should be aware of this consumer's behavior. Screaming and insulting people usually doesn't work out well for most people. Thank you.

Review: Here are the undeniable facts...

A. Their sales rep had my treadmill on the initial paperwork.

B. I scheduled my move three weeks prior to my move date.

C. The point has always been that they negligently FAILED TO MOVE the treadmill, most likely because they forgot that it would take them a few days to get a professional in to disassemble, move, and then reassemble the treadmill.

D. Therefore, on very short notice, I disassembled the treadmill inappropriately and moved it myself in order to get it out of my old house in time so that I was not in breach of my closing agreement. E. Then, I had to pay professionals to reassemble the treadmill correctly.

I have a hard time believing though that if you presented these facts to any magistrate that it wouldn't be a "slam dunk" win for me.

I also quote from their insurance company, "This is the maximum liability my insured, George Moving & Storage would have for any loss or damage to your client's household goods moved on September 4, 2014." The key word in that quote is "moved." If they would have, in fact, "moved" the treadmill like they were supposed to, then I can see where the "Combined Uniform Household Goods Bill of Lading and Freight Bill" and the copy of the claim that explain the valuation limits that I signed for would be valid. A Bill of Lading details a shipment of merchandise. Since the treadmill ended up not being part of the shipment, I cannot imagine that these documents would apply legally and be permissible in this particular situation.Desired Settlement: A full refund of the cost of repairing the treadmill plus additional pain and suffering costs.

Business

Response:

My insurance company, [redacted] and the shipper's attorney have resolved this matter. All items have been signed off on and payment has been sent. Thank you.

Consumer

Response:

The matter is NOT resolved. The payment of $159.00 ($0.60/pound) is about 25% of my overall cost of repairing my treadmill (Receipts were already submitted through my attorney). This also does not include pain and suffering charges, especially with regards to the added stress put on my pregnant wife coming off of two miscarriages. Once again, I quote "This is the maximum liability my insured, George Moving & Storage would have for any loss or damage to your client's household goods moved on September 4, 2014." The key word in that quote is "moved." If they would have, in fact, "moved" the treadmill like they were supposed to, then I can see where the "Combined Uniform Household Goods Bill of Lading and Freight Bill" and the copy of the claim that explain the valuation limits that I signed for would be valid. A Bill of Lading details a shipment of merchandise. Since the treadmill ended up not being part of the shipment, these documents would NOT apply legally and be permissible in this particular situation.I go back to the undeniable facts...A. Their sales rep had the treadmill on the initial paperwork.B. I scheduled my move three weeks prior to my move date.C. The point has always been that they negligently FAILED TO MOVE the treadmill, most likely because they forgot that it would take them a few days to get a professional in to disassemble, move, and then reassemble the treadmill.D. Therefore, on very short notice, I disassembled the treadmill inappropriately and moved it myself in order to get it out of my old house in time so that I was not in breach of my closing agreement.E. Then, I had to pay professionals to reassemble the treadmill correctly. If we presented these facts to any magistrate it would be a "slam dunk" win for me, especially since they have yet to refute any of them.Until I receive appropriate settlement, I have no problem "dragging this company through the mud" in the court system, through the PA Moving and Storage Associates, The Attorney General, Angie's List, local news outlets, etc, so that others hopefully aren't taken advantage of like I was. Also, please make sure this complaint is visible on the Revdex.com website.

Regards,

Review: My move from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas was scheduled for loading from July 29 to July 31, 2013 with delivery from August 5 to August 9. The driver ([redacted]) and his crew were very nice; I have nothing but praise for [redacted]. However, George Moving & Storage underestimated the size of my move, and had to split it across two vans. The first van, driven by [redacted], arrived on time. George Moving & Storage did not keep me informed about the status of the second van, which ultimately arrived more than a week late and was driven by someone else. Numerous items were broken during the move. The insurance company and adjuster for George Moving & Storage took its time dealing with the damage claim, yielding a long, drawn-out process. They did not settle the claim until mid-December. However, the insurer refused to settle on three items: a stained glass window (glass cracked), a chaise lounge (upholstery torn), a Xerox photocopier (plastic tabs that hold the sorter to the copier broken off). The stained glass window was crated to protect it. The insurer claims that the inventory identified the window as already broken, confusing it with a different stained glass window that was broken (and which was not crated). The moving company apparently shrink-wrapped the two parts of the copier together, causing the damage. The insurer claims that it was delivered to the living room (true) and that I must have moved it (not true - I had the moving company move it from the living room to the correct location, the den), so they can't determine whether the damage was their fault or my fault. The insurer finally claimed that the damage to the upholstery was pre-existing, even though there was a tear from through the shrink wrap was torn too. They said that any further dispute would have to go through arbitration. I filed the paperwork, but never received the paperwork for filing an arbitration claim with AMSA.Desired Settlement: I would like George Moving & Storage to pay for the cost of repair or replacement of the three damaged items, an estimated total of $3,000. Specifically: $750 for the stained glass window, $1,250 to reupholster the chaise lounge and $1,000 for a replacement finisher for the Xerox 5050.

Please note that this complaint should be filed with North American Van Lines as that is the carrier you have a signed contract. All complaints will be handled by them as an agent for North American Van Lines we adhere to all guidelines for processing claims.

Thank you.

Response:

When I originally signed with George Moving & Storage, they emphasized that they were a local mover and that they take a lot of care to ensure a satisfactory move, nothing about their merely being an agent for North American Van Lines. Frankly, their response is an example of the kind of runaround I got from them after my move was loaded on their vans. My complaint against George Moving & Storage stands and their response does not satisfy my complaint. You may, however, add North American Van Lines to the complaint.

Review: My credit card was charged 110% of the amount I was quoted. I was told the move would take less time than the quote, but due to major failures on the part of G[redacted] Moving (improper equipment, late arrive, malfunctioning equipment and only 2 of the promised 4 man crew able to work at full capacity), the move took much longer and they are trying to charge me more, when I have requested a reduction in the original quote due to all these issues. They sent 1 worker who was on light duty and unable to lift anything. Another worker was picked up that morning at [redacted] and had health issues, rendering him unable to do much. They were unable to take one item off the truck at the final destination due to a malfunctioning lift gate. They took it back to their facility and I had to make numerous calls the following day to get them to deliver it. My husband had to miss a day of work waiting on the arrival (which did not get delivered until after 3:00 pm). They also wanted to charge me overtime for this extra delivery, which should have been accomplished the day of the move, if they had the proper equipment and manpower to complete the move in one day as we had contracted for. I have requested a reduction in the amount due from the original quote. I was offered a reduction from the amount charged to my credit card, which was 110% of the quote. I told the Owner that this was not acceptable to me. She responded that if I was not willing to accept that offer, they would go after the full amount that they charged to my credit card. I was never given the courtesy of a return phone call from the owner to discuss this issue, only correspondence by short, abrupt email. I feel that I have received terrible customer service and my concerns have not been given any consideration or attempt to resolve them satisfactorily.Desired Settlement: To be given a substantial reduction in the amount quoted to me, and a credit issued to my credit card due to their inability to provide the service and proper, functioning equipment and manpower that was contracted for and causing the extra lost work time and inconvenience of not being able to complete the move in one day, as contracted for.

Response:

Ms. [redacted] has received a $509.82 credit of which we did not charge the second day delivery as our liftgate didn't work properly so we handled the safe delivery next day. As for the crew 4 men were sent and the driver was on the truck loading the entire time. Crew members had an 11.5 hour day which is an extremely long day of moving furniture. Attachments show actual move was $2250.50 as we initially did not charge for the 2.5 hours overtime. We revised the move to reduce overtime to $2096.75 plus we gave her $356.07 additional credit showing she only paid $1740.68 is the charge. We feel we have offered her ample settlement and nothing further at this time will be credited.Thank you Rebecca G[redacted]

Review: I had a Horrible experience with is company.

First, I would like to say that I have moved several times with other companys and never had issues with damage. This company destroyed ALOT of my furniture. Huge gouges, scratches, torn speaker, springs sticking out of couch cushion. That's just naming few! I actually had to write a report listing all the damage with pictures. Obviously the damage was caused due to not protecting the furniture which was part of the contract. Several door jambs we're gouged as well, to match the scratches in our bedroom furniture sets, at the house we are selling. Again, no cardboard protection was used which should have been part of the contract.

I even confronted the young men during the move and said look what you are doing to my furniture and to please slow down, take your time & pay attention. I even called the salesperson they sent out and she felt bad, but she said there is nothing I could do. I also called the main office as well, with no help.

Very poor management. They do not want to deal with the problem. I have tried countless times to settle with this company. All I want is for them to pay the repair bill for what they destroyed, due to breaking contract and not protecting my furniture. They simply passed me off to the claims department. This is an ongoing process that seems to be never ending. This nightmare is still not over!

Very disappointed with this company.

I would like to forward my report of all the damage so you can see how extensive it is. I actually sold a couple pieces (for pennies on the dollar) due to being non-repairable.Desired Settlement: I would like this company to cover all repairs to my personal property they damaged. The alternate option would be to provide a reasonable settlement offer.

We have been working with Mr. [redacted] for several months and many communications between his 15 phone calls to the owner's mobile phone along with multiple phone calls to our office. The insurance adjustors have been working with him on settlement and Mr. [redacted] has been holding up the process of the claim resolution. There are numerous emails going back and forth for resolution. Mr. [redacted] has been offered a final settlement on 9/22/15. Rebecca G[redacted]
