George's Towing damaged the bumper of my auto in the process of towing. The owner denied any responsibility although clearly at fault. My vehicle was towed from a private establishment in Chapel Hill, NC. Upon picking up my vehicle I noticed damage to rear bumper which clearly was caused in the process of towing the vehicle. The owner and I and 2 witnesses all saw the damage and took photos. The owner denied responsibility and I had to pay in full to release my car. I have an estimate to repair the damage.Desired SettlementRefund of $339.25 plus repair of $819.72, for a total of $1158.97Business Response [redacted] from the business called and said that their attorney is handling this caseConsumer Response I am waiting for a resolution as of 11/11.

Towed my car from a NOT clearly marked parking area, misquoted price to retrieve car, excessive charges, would only accept cash. The company towed my vehicle from [redacted], Chapel Hill on Friday April 11th sometime between 10 pm and 1 am, in an unmarked parking area behind [redacted] where I was a patron. The only signage appeared to be for an apparently separate gravel lot that required payment. The paved area I parked in gave no indication that I would be towed. It was not made clear where my vehicle was, and after a phone call around 1:30 am, 11/12/14, I was told it was roughly 7 miles away, and it would be $108 (cash only) to retrieve my car. I asked multiple times to confirm location and price. I wasn't able to get it until the next morning. When I arrived at the lot, around 9 am, I was told by rude, unprofessional looking employees that it was $180 (cash) and they didn't believe I was misquoted. After going back to an atm with a friend I got the money and retrieved my car. I was not informed by proper signs and markings that I would be towed, and several others were towed from the same location. This company is known for being predatory and unfair, they misquoted me, charged an excessive amount, and were rude and unprofessional.Desired SettlementExplanation

George's Towing miscalculated the fees charged for boot removal and charged me too much. They would not resolve the erroneous charges. On Wednesday evening, March 23, I walked off a private lot in Chapel Hill (Panera Bread) for 13 minutes, returned to find my truck booted by George's Towing. The company representatives told me I had to immediately pay $160 with cash or $184 with a credit card to take the boot off. I had 15 minutes or they would start charging additional fines and tow the vehicle off.Among other problems, the main problem I would like resolved is with the fees they charged me. Based on the receipt that they issued to me, it seems that they overcharged me. I called twice to explain and try to resolve this, and they hung up on me both times.Below are the charge errors (I can forward the receipt if necessary):1) The receipt says that they charged $35 for a "Surcharge for Carrboro Compliance." The parking lot where the infraction happened and the company are both located in Chapel Hill, so I don't think I should be charged a Carrboro compliance fee.2) The receipt says they charged $24 for a "Credit card fee 15% of boot fee." The boot fee was $125, so 15% would be $18.75. In addition, the credit card that I used, Visa, does not allow merchants to charge a credit card surcharge of more than 4%, which would be $5 ( https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/surcharge-fees.html#2 ). Overall, I think I should be reimbursed $35 for the charge error on #1, and between $5.25 and $19 for the charge error on #2. So the total I should be reimbursed should be a minimum of $40.25, and a maximum of $54, to resolve the charge errors on the receipt.Desired SettlementI think I should be reimbursed $35 for the charge error on #1, and between $5.25 and $19 for the charge error on #2. So the total I should be reimbursed should be a minimum of $40.25, and a maximum of $54, to resolve the charge errors on the receipt.Business Response The customer admitted he walked off property therefore he got booted. It is stated on signs at Panera that credit card fee is 15%. It also states on the signs after first 15 minutes there is an additional fee of $35 for every additional 15 minutes. There is a compliance fee to Carrboro and Chapel Hill which is $35 for each town. Customer also signed the release and credit card receipt acknowledging he accepted the fees.Consumer Response Thank you for responding. I would be happy to provide you with the official receipt that you issued to me. It details each line item charged to my credit card. I will provide verbatim what the receipt says here:1. Boot removal fee (walked off property) - $1252. Credit card fee 15% of boot fee - $243. Driver Dm - $04. Surcharge for Carrboro Compliance - $355. Truck 02 - $0Total: $184.00For #1, I accept to pay the boot removal fee of $125, and I do accept that I walked off the property at Panera for 13 minutes, and I understand that your company is waiting to boot and tow anyone the minute they walk off of this property. I may not agree with your practices or approach, but I can't dispute that you and Panera have decided to charge customers $125 for walking off the property, and since I walked off the property I am obligated to pay that. For #2, you still haven't explained how you wrongly calculated 15% of the boot fee and overcharged my credit card. 15% of $125 is $18.75, not $24. If your receipt said "15% of boot fee plus all other fees" I could accept that you are adding #1 and #4. But your receipt does not state that. It says "Credit card fee 15% of boot fee." The boot fee was $125, therefore 15% would be $18.75. Your own document shows that you overcharged my credit card. Maybe you made a mistake on your receipt, but that is the only official document you gave to me coming out of our transaction, so that is what I'm basing my calculation on. Your own receipt indicates that you overcharged me for this fee.For #3, you still haven't explained why you have charged me $35 for "Surcharge for Carrboro Compliance." The boot removal service took place at the Panera parking lot at 213 W Franklin St, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Your company is located at 1200 Old Greensboro RdChapel Hill, NC 27516. Both locations are in Chapel Hill. But somehow I was charged a fee related to your company's compliance in Carrboro. Perhaps this is again a mistake on the official receipt that you issued to me, but what it states is that I was charged a compliance fee for Carrboro, and there was nothing in this transaction that was related to Carrboro. So since this receipt is the only official document I have, that you issued to me, I am assuming that you charged the wrong fee for this transaction, and I would still like to be refunded the fee that your receipt says was charged for "Carrboro compliance."I would be happy to provide the official receipt that the company issued to me. All of what I stated above is exactly as it is represented on the receipt.Final Business Response As I have stated before the compliance fee for Chapel Hill and Carrboro are the same price of $35.00 for both towns. Also the signs at panera States 15% credit card fee which is $125 boot removal fee plus $35.00 compliance plus 15% equals $184. We have explained this on scene with u so we r explaining it again. You signed receipt and acknowledged that u understood the price.
