Gerhard Inc

Being a businessman, myself, I know that the vast majority of reviews people take the time to wite are not positive ones. This will be an exception to that "rule". When my air conditioning unit failed the first time, I called the company (which I will not name) listed on the side of the air conditioner who had installed it. It was under warranty and that company insisted, after looking inside the house at the air handler only, that a whole new compressor was needed outside. No cost to me for a whole new unit, but nearly $800 to install it.

Fortunately, my neighbor, who works in real estate, suggested that I call Gerhard Inc. Gerhard came out, and after seeing the problem headed immediately outside, where he said the problem was. He noticed that there were pinhole leaks in the copper piping leading to/form the freon unit and proceeded to braze the copper pipes to fix the leaks. He added more Freon to the unit and, voila, no problems again for years at a cost of about $150 (including the $75m service call).

Since then, the compressor had other problems, mostly due to it not being wired as well as it could have been when it was installed. The pins had shorted out and melted leading to the compressor unit as a result of the poor wiring. Although any other company would have thrown up their hands and said a whole new compressor was needed, Gerhard employed several "outside the box" fixes that got my air conditioner up and running again. Gerhard only charged the service call charge of $75, even though he spent hours figuring out how to connect to pins that no longer existed.

Finally, the latest service call - one that occurred tonight and that inspired me to do what most people just simply can't be bothered with - writing a positive review. After returning home from vacation, we noticed that there was no power to our thermostats and that the AC was not running. After making sure the fuses had not shut off, I was stumped. Gerhard tried to coach me over the phone through a few tests and fixes I could attempt, myself, but none of those worked. It was 7:00pm and when those didn't work, he said he's be here to fix the problem in 45 minutes (from 25 miles away). Sure enough, he was right on time, figured out the problem was due to a wire that had shorted out and burned (again, because of the poor initial install by the builder). Fifteen minutes later, all was good again and, once again, I was only charged the $75 service call.

There are few, if any, businessmen who I have dealt with that have the honesty, integrity and desire to fix a problem for the least possible cost than Gerhard. Like a trustworthy car mechanic, he is worth his weight in gold and I cannot possibly recommend him highly enough.
