My company German Master Tech Inc(GMT) was contacted by *** ** to perform a Pre-purchase inspection (PPI) on a Mini Cooper S with 96,miles on June 24, *** ** also requested a compression test to be performed as well
This work was completed and a Service Maintenance Check list was
generated as well as a complete vehicle diagnostic report, both provided to *** **GMT also provided estimates for major repairsFrom these findings I’d like to state the following points
1) The report clearly shows the car was in need of extensive repairs including major safety issues
2) *** ** was provided with a $2,200.00+ repair estimate with a caveat that further reconditioning was going to be needed
A post inspection phone call was also provided and all posed questions from *** ** were answered
At no point was the car recommended for purchase
Payment was received from *** ** for services renderedAt this point GMT’s service for *** ** was concluded, although we would gladly answer further questions and give opinions if asked
*** ** was now armed with information and perspective, from the reports and asked questions, to form a position in regard to this vehicle’s purchase.
I received a email from *** ** on July 7, stating that he had purchased the carHe also reported that the power steering pump was not needed and that the car had developed a coolant leak at the water pump/thermostat areaHe also noted that the driver’s window exhibited wind noise on his hour return trip home to Sothern California from Bend Oregon
My Explanation for the power steering pump replacement being recommended- GMT’s service writer misinterpreted symptoms stated on the report “Leaks at Power Steering pump area” and “Power steering, Topped up fluid” as a leaking pumpThis, as explained to *** **, would have been caught with GMT’s internal policy and as no repair was performed we should take it as a “no harm no foul” situationBut the quote was on the report and was, incorrectly in retrospect, used by *** ** as part of his deal brokering process to obtain a discount!
GMT’s position on the coolant leak developing on the hour road trip was this-
The vehicle did not exhibit an active coolant leak at the time of inspection
I feel *** ** has mistakenly assumed that the Pre-purchase inspection as some kind of guaranteeThis it is not and was not offered as suchI believe I addressed the Power steering quote issue and coolant leak development to reasonable satisfactionThe service was performed and the information reportedAt this point it’s up to the buyer to make the purchase decisionI will state I was quite surprised at *** **’s purchase as the car was in need of extensive repairs and correction of deferred serviceBut it was inexpensive and he did obtain further discountsSo why the surprise that he had to put money into it? GMT stated before the purchase the need of over $in known repairs! I believe *** **’s request for a refund is unwarranted
I will state further that *** **’s contacting of the Revdex.com, Oregon State Department of Justice and bad reviews on Yelp & Google are excessively retaliatory as he seems to be suffering primarily from buyer’s remorse
I have one question for *** **- You were informed that the car was in need of over $in repairs and purchased anyway, what were you expecting from an inexpensive, high mileage car?
