German Shepherd Rescue and Adoption Service Reviews (1)

GSRA requires a 250.00 adoption fee. Then took our dog--how is it still theirs when we paid for him?We paid 250.00 adoption fee for a rescue dog. When he escaped our fence( we were working to get it repaired)and due to medical issues my husband has had we had not gotten him chipped yet(but were going to get it done)They took our dog and did not return him--deeming us uncaring and not good enough to keep him--but our 250.00 dollars they have also kept!Anyone who knows my husband and I know we are very loving, caring and responsible pet owners. These circumstances were not considered-- How can they keep the dog after we paid them?Desired Settlementrefund of 250.00 and not slandering our good name.Business Response Mr & Mrs. [redacted] applied and were approved to adopt from our organization, German Shepherd Rescue & Adoption.  They met with a volunteer from the rescue and proceeded to adopt [redacted] a German Shepherd Dog.  The adoption was finalized on October 20, 2013 after a one week trial of [redacted] in the [redacted]'s home. After the one week trial period, any adoption fees paid become **NON REFUNDABLE** should a dog ever come back to the rescue in the future for any reason. On January 1st, 2014, our organization received a call from a good samaritan who had found a stray German Shepherd on a busy road.   The dog was identified as ours, [redacted] through his rabies tag, the only tag he was wearing.  A representative from our organization called the [redacted] When speaking to them, they stated that they didn't know how [redacted] got out nor how long he'd been gone and that he had escaped twice previously.  When found, [redacted] had no ID from his adopters on his collar, was not microchipped even though GSRA had sent the adopters a microchip to implant 2 months previously, and was not wearing his GSRA rescue ID tag.GSRA decided to hold [redacted] at that time while we further investigated the circumstances under which he escaped. In a follow up phone call from one of our Board Members, Ms. [redacted] confessed that they did actually know how [redacted] was escaping - and yet they were still leaving him out in the yard unsupervised to continue escaping.GSRA reserves the right to take back a dog should it be deemed necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the dog. This condition is included in all adoption contracts. GSRA does not take this lightly and has rarely exercised this right in the 22 years that we have been rescuing dogs. The GSRA Board decided that this would be a rare instance in which we would not allow one of our dogs to be returned to the adopters.[redacted] appeared to have some health issues and was taken to the vet on January 6th, 2014.  The vet found that he has a severe upper respiratory infection for which he was placed on antibiotics, badly inflamed gums, conjunctivitis and a dry brittle coat.  None of these conditions were present in [redacted] when he was placed in the [redacted] home in October 2013. This reaffirmed our decision not to return [redacted] to the [redacted]GSRA has been saving lives since 1992 and is an ALL-VOLUNTEER organization dedicated to rescuing German Shepherds from hapless circumstances. Our volunteers donate countless hours to our cause. GSRA considers this case closed and will be giving no further responses as we get back to the business of rescuing dogs.Consumer Response [redacted] had been taken to the vet as soon as he came into our care - we have the vets report on his health- he was under weight, his teeth were very worn and his gums were in bad shape and he had fungus in his ears that required multiple irrigations to clear up when he came to us. He was never left out in the fenced yard- only long enough to use the bathroom- he slept and stayed in the house and had his own bed and sometimes slept on the loveseat in our living room.We had found the area in the fence that was loose and I had repaired it and was in the process of making further repairs. Our other dog did not ever get out of the yard.My husband had been sick and in the hospital and that was the reason for the delay in getting [redacted] chipped.Everyone who knows myself and my husband know that we have always treated our pets like children-- we have multiple witnesses to this fact.Even GSRA answer is slanderous-- we are not satisfied with their response.Consumer Response [redacted] had been taken to the vet as soon as he came into our care - we have the vets report on his health- he was under weight, his teeth were very worn and his gums were in bad shape and he had fungus in his ears that required multiple irrigations to clear up when he came to us.
