Germantown Lotte Reviews (2)

I was at LOTTE in Germantown. MD last night (Sunday, 05/03/2015 around 8:15 pm) and the same thing happened to me when I tried to purchase a box of mangos that did not have the exact number displayed in the sales sign. There were few that were in less than perfect condition so decided to swap them out as well. An older A[redacted] guy took the mangos out of my cart soon after I placed it in and started yelling at me in a language I didn't understand. He then proceeded to angrily rearrange the mangos on the stand, and his body language was very hostile. I started to walk away horrified as I tried to make sense out of what had just happened. I did have a list of several other grocery items I needed to purchase from there but stood there in shock for few min to gather my thoughts as I'd never experienced anything of this nature before. I normally spend about $40-60 every other week at LOTTE when I shop there and I have been doing so for the past 6 years. I decided to forget about the rest of my grocery items and leave the store.
As I was walking out of the store I decided to talk to him to figure out what had just happened. I was curious as to why he reacted in such way and treated me like I was some criminal. I asked "sir, do you speak English"? I wasn't really sure if he did speak English since he yelled at me in some language I did not understand. He yelled back at me in broken English something to the effect of "Do you speak English... Look at the sign..." Much to my surprise, he then proceeded to yell "get out of my store.. Leave now!!"
As it turned out, there was a sign that asked customers not to swap the fruits from their original boxes. I totally missed that and I apologized to the guy before I stepped out of the store and said I missed the sign and I was sorry. I did not want to descend to his level of misconduct and wanted to own up to my mistake in not paying attention. However, I do not think that I did anything to deserve such a hostile reaction from him. People do make mistakes and the sign was hung among several other sales sign so it was very easy to miss. Forget good customer service, this guy did not even show respect to a fellow human being that most of us in the civilized society are used to. I have seen my friend reprimand and yell at her dog this way when the dog does something wrong, but I've never seen this done to another human being or ever been the recipient of such a reaction. It looks like he had been watching from a distance and waited until I placed the box in the cart to approach me and take it out, which was very creepy! If he had simply approached me and pointed to the sign and asked not swap the fruits, I would have been more than happy to oblige.
It was an awful experience, and like the previous customer, I have decided not to shop there anymore.
It is a shame to constitute or allow for this level of poor customer service and I sincerely hope the higher management at LOTTE would take better steps to train their employees/store managers.
I guess you get what you pay for when you shop at places that sells goods and services cheaper than everywhere else... cheap (or in this case, abysmal) customer service!
