Added On Over $500 to reservation
I made a reservation on what looked like the website of the hotel I wished to stay at. I received a confirmation email from a different company - Hotel Values. My credit card was charged an additional $521.80 for "Tax Recovery Charges and Service Fees". On my departing receipt from the hotel, the $521.80 charge did not show up. I called Hotel Values on 10/30/22. I wanted to know (1) what the charges were for and (2) what tax entities the taxes were for. The customer service rep I spoke to would not answer my questions. She only told me that Hotel Values works with many hotels as a third-party business. She suggested that I email Getaroom.com (apparently a related business) and they will answer my questions. I called Getaroom.com customer service and the rep gave me the same run around as the Hotel Values rep and would not answer my questions. This morning I sent a very specific email to the address I was given - [email protected]. The email was immediately returned to me with the message that it could not be delivered. At this point, I do not seem to have any recourse to contact either Value Hotels or Getaroom.com to discuss getting my $521.80 refund. The Internet is loaded with hundreds of customer complaints about these two businesses and a class-action law suit was filed against them in 2020. I thought that my reservation was made through the hotel, but apparently it was "hijacked" by Hotel Values and Getaroom.com. By the way, the $521.80 charge was 49% of the actual hotel bill of $1,101.99. I believe these companies are a scam.

TERRIBLE customer service! I booked a hotel reservation through getaroom.com, selected the CANADIAN $ option, and proceeded enter my credit card information to charge the $amount that was showing on the screenWhen I get by bill via email turns out the amount on the "Billing detail screen" where they took my credit card information was in AMERICAN $ although it said that NOWHERE on the site or screen so they actually charged by credit card $I called the X-XXX-XXX-XXXX and was told by the agent that they are an american based company ( how am I supposed to know that as a consumer?) and that if I had any common sense I would have known they were charging me in american funds! ADVERTISING and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

They said they would price match within hours of booking a room, yet have failed to do soThey take you around the loop, making you speak with this person and that personIt is unfair to not be able to cancel a resevation or get the best price guranteed when it is published on their website"Best Rate Guaranteed We guarantee that if you find a lower qualifying rate for the same accommodation and room type within hours of booking, we will either, or at our option, refund the difference between what you paid and the lower rate, or refund the reservation with no penalties."

Getaroom masked itself as a Sheraton direct room booking site I called believing I was speaking with Sheraton The operator answers the phone only saying, "reservations" If there was nothing to hide, why not introduce as, "Getaroom.com reservations"? So I booked the room and then checked my email confirmation amd saw it was from Getaroom and NOT Sheraton I then found the real Sheraton website and discovered Getaroom tacked over dollars onto the cost of the room as their fee!!! They are classic bait and switch Do not use Getaroom.com They are deceptive thieves

When I called to make a reservation the woman asked where I wanted to stay and I said "I thought I was calling that location." She relied - "We do the reservation for all their hotels" (that I was looking to stay at)They're not the sole reservation company as I was lead to believeMy credit card was charged as soon as I place the reservationNot happyBe truthful people!

Our stay at a small rural hotel in Wetsminster, MD was greatHowever, we booked it through getaroom.comWe booked ahead because it was for the Thanksgiving holidayWhen we awoke to leave, the hotel left their rate slip under the door per normalIt was over $LESS than the rate we paid with getaroomI contacted getaroom to dispute the huge difference in priceThey would not give us a full refund of the difference in priceNeedless to say, I will NEVER use them againI should have just booked with the hotel or checked a week ahead of time so I could still cancel to get the much lower rate directly from the hotel
The hotel was fine and we will definitely stay there again, as we recently moved and it is affordable and near familyBut getaroomno thanksWe paid 38% more than the hotel would have chargedwhat a rip off!

Here are the reasons why not to use this site:
I made a hotel reservation on 9/03/for 9/18/Only after the reservation was confirmed did I see in the fine print "This reservation must be canceled by AUGUST 8, in order not to be charged for a one night's stayIn other words I would have had to cancel A MONTH BEFORE I made the reservation to have avoided the paying for the roomI was trying to cancel OVER a week in advance of the arrival date, but was told they would NOT cancel it, and I was already charged for the two night stay
When I tried to contact getaroom by phone, everyone I talked with had a strong accent that I had great difficulty understanding, and I was on hold a considerable period of time, switched from one person to another, asked for not only a confirmation number but also a digit "booking reference number"
All said and done, my credit card was already charged as soon as I made the reservationI called the hotel and they said they were very sorry that there was nothing they could do
NEVER use getaroom.com to make reservationI certainly will never again use them

This is a "Bait and Switch" website When you find an excellent "deal" you will not be able to book itThe room will suddenly be "unavailable" however, you will continue to see the room and "incredible" price listed for hours after you tried to book Deceptive, to say the leastI now have a lesser opinion of TripAdvisor based on their partnership with this unscrupulous companyBe careful booking through TA, as you might get suckered into going through getaroom - BTW, read their terms carefully and you will find fees they will charge you that are otherwise undisclosed

We booked our room through tripadvisor.com with getaroom.com over a month in advance to get a good rate on a nice hotel. We picked the hotel we booked based on a few great amenities like a free shuttle into the city, floor to ceiling windows with a Manhattan view and closeness to the city etc. A few days prior to our trip they tried to move us from this 4 star hotel to a 3 star hotel that is a chain with no view, no shuttle and bad reviews. They said that the hotel we booked was over sold and i'm still not sure why we were the people to get shafted out of all the guests. I called getaroom.com and tripadvisor.com and they offered me a refund but it was too late for us to try and find and book something different at a reasonable price. They said they had to find us something else with comparable rates but the problem is that all the rates are way higher if you try to book a nice hotel a couple days in advance, so all the hotels with comparable rates for a last second room are way lower quality. After being on the phone for over 3 hours I finally convinced them that this is completely wrong and comes across as a scam, and because I was very persistent they finally ended up finding us a better hotel. However, it is still further from the city, does not have a manhattan view and does not have a free shuttle. This all means we will be spending more money than planned and not enjoy our stay as much. They also waisted a bunch of my time on the phone/email and put us in a stressful situation right before our trip! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They hook you with a good deal on a nice Hotel, then they try to put you in something inferior a couple days before your trip when its too late to book something else decent at a reasonable price. They acted very cold to us and really didn't care that we were disappointed and treated very unfairly. Seems like a scam if you ask me.

Get-A-Room.com is a bogus hotel booking website that represents itself as the operator with the lowest rates. When you get your bill, the add an unspecified "Service Fee" that boosts your rate way over the quoted rate. When you call them within the 24 hour low price window, they reject your claim. I've been going around and round with my credit card company about this bad operator.
