We know what works (and what doesn't work), what employers want, and what techniques win interviewsWe poll hiring managers and recruiters to hear what they want in a resume so we can give you the edge! I have personally reviewed your resume and have some comments, so let’s get started! It will help to have a copy of your resume nearby for referenceRemember I am critiquing your resume, NOT your experience or ability Let’s start at the top with your opening section First, your Summary of Credentials section definitely needs to be strengthenedWith your summary only being a few sentences you really only tell us a fraction of what we should know about you to get a good head startThe limited information here is far from enoughJust for comparison purposes, some great summaries warrant as much resume real estate space as the first half of the first pageNext, I see you have included a "Key Strengths" sectionThis is a great strategy because it provides a quick and comprehensive look at your strengths from the beginning of the resume as well as help with those crucial key words so you can be found on the net! Now, let’s move on to the body of your resume In regards to your job descriptions, employers are looking for a specific format when they pick up a resume, and this one does not follow suitYou have bulleted every statement which is a very ineffective formatting tool not to mention indicative of a lower level careerBullets are used to draw attention and they are usually best reserved for results and accomplishmentsWhen you put your entire job description into bullets, you’ve negated their purposeAnother issue I see is with the content of your job descriptionsYou've lumped accomplishments AND duties together when those two must be separated and formatted differently to be effectiveTake a close looksome of your bullets are task-based, not results-basedFor example: Managed the project life cycle by creating and maintaining project plans, issue logs, meeting agendas and follminutesMaintained concise documents of decisions made during meetings between the Accounting Team and Price Waterhouse CoopersGathered requirements from business owners for use in IT data conversion projects Here’s the thing, you have the background and the experience, but you’re not organizing it in a way that stands out to the reader and says, “Look how unique I am compared to other candidates!” In this economy, you really need to SHOW the hiring manager how you are differentYour resume is your first and many times only impression you will ever make to the employer, it has to be positive! Next, you should always include a brief description of the companies at which you have workedDon’t assume that employers will recognize " [redacted] " - no matter how big it isBy including main product/service delivered, annual revenues, size, number of employees, markets, etc., you will help the reader get a clearer picture of the environments in which you have workedThere is also no need to go back to with your job historyEmployers are generally looking for the past 10-years of experience detail because that is what is most relevant to the challenges they face todayCut off or simply list employers/job titles/dates that are far back in timeIf you are concerned about showing depth, there are ways to truncate your older experience while still showing you have good background from which to draw uponOn another note, we do not recommend using months in your dates of employment because it makes your career history appear "choppy"The only exception is for the positions that were for less than year Finally, you have too much detail in your Education sectionEmployers just need to know that you have a degree/certification, not when it was obtained (etc.)Readers often use the dates to determine the age of the job seekerRemember age discrimination can go both ways so it’s best not to risk it by omitting them In reading through your document, I noticed some issues with the wording I don't see any glaring typos or spelling errors, which is goodBut you do have some word redundancies ("Managed" etc.)By using the same words or phrases repeatedly, employers are left to assume that either you have a very limited vocabulary or that you simply didn't want to put enough energy/thinking into the resumeChange up the wording to create interestWhen most job candidates write their own resumes, they don't consider word choiceTheir primary concern is getting down the basic informationWhat you might not realize is that verbiage is critical, and the wrong word choice can sabotage your resumeWhen writing your resume, it's important to consider your audienceThe average recruiter and/or hiring manager sees hundreds of resumes from qualified candidates for any given job openingResumes begin to look and sound the sameWe need to make yours unique and stand out from the crowd of other resumesRemember, [redacted] , communication isn’t just getting words down on paper; it’s knowing what the reader is seeking, knowing how to get your message across succinctly, and knowing how to create clarity in your messageIf you aren’t communicating well in your resume, hiring managers will assume you are not a good communicator in person The initial appearance of your resume is very important, and I see some areas for improvement As you can imagine, I see MANY resumes on a daily basisI can spot a resume that gives an amateur appearance versus a professional appearance right from the first initial glanceRecruiters and hiring managers can tooYours, unfortunately, is not on par with other excellent resumes I seeI would recommend a more attractive or reader-friendly design to the document to provide a better first impression and better readability Good formatting and design is especially important for candidates targeting professional positionsEmployers expect you to have a more pulled-together, slick presentation of yourself because they expect you to give a professional presentation to customers, vendors, and others with whom you would be dealing at your target level Some final thoughts Try to view your resume from the employer’s perspective for just a momentThis person is probably inundated with a hundred other resumes PLUS yours in any given day – all from candidates who feel equally or more qualified than youYou need that extra edge a professionally written resume gives youYou want that reader to put down your resume and say, “I HAVE to meet [redacted] I’d love to have someone like that on my teamI MUST get in touch now to set up an interview!” I truly feel you could benefit from our expertise, for we are experts at creating resumes that provide a firm foundation on which to build your career Are you ready to take the next step in landing interviews? I am rejecting this response because: First of all I want no further action taken regarding the resume writersI accepted an offer from an employer using my own resumeGetinterviews has a hard time sorting reality and truth from their own thinkingThe "satisfied customer" they referenced was my wife, who was neither satisfied or dissatisfied as she obtained employment before she received a resume back from GetinterviewsI did not have a follphone conversation with them because i've gotten several interviews using my own resume rewriteThey stated that they didn't understand what my issues were thats a lie! Here is what I addressed to *** *** -
***,
I understand what you’re saying about results orientation and business language as key drivers for the resumeHowever the “business language” that was left out of the resume and the way other key factors were misrepresented make me look inept, that I haven’t accomplished much and that I’m misrepresenting myselfKey words that any employer screening resumes for a Quality Leadership position were left outWords and phrases like “Relentless Root Cause Analysis”, “Mistake Proofing”, “Corrective Action”, “Turnbacks”Terminology like that define the potential of a Quality candidateThere’s no mention in the new resume of Corrective Action for the - period when I was a Quality EngineerThat’s the primary function of a Quality Engineer. Then, you identify the Calibration Lab as a “crucial function”Yet the more crucial of functions are the “Non Destructive Testing” which deals with ultrasonic and radiographic scanning to check parts internally, and, Material Review Board, which controls all the nonconformance and the Engineering dispositions, which I was a member of the Material Review Board and I supervised members of the board for those functions mentionedLook at what the new resume states what I did as the “head of the Material Review Board”The “head" of a Material Review Board is a top level management position. You state “OEM manufacturer developing….” OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer”UTAS is an OEM whose product is composite and metal bond nacelle systemsFYI - a nacelle is the structure that encases aircraft engines and includes the thrust reversers that slow the aircraft down when it landsUTC acquired Goodrich so the product would be the same for Goodrich Riverside and UTAS RiversideThe new resume states that UTC was acquired Concerning FAA functionsI performed conformity verifications and validationsThats a specialty field that requires 100’s of hours of training and FAA approvals with certificationsThe new resume states that I “managed” the activity.
I could continue but anything further would be pointlessI’ve been in aerospace for years and I’ve interviewed and hired a lot of candidates in that timeThis new resume is full of red flags and would need to be completely redone and I just redid the majority of it in this emailI owe you something for your time, ***, but not $for something that I can’t use.

This woman was very confused -- we have already been in contact with her. As we explained to her, she received a detailed FREE review of her resume and was given a QUOTE for us to re-write her resume and cover letter ($250 not $135 as she stated in her complaint):
background: white;">Dear [redacted], Thank you for submitting your resume. We know that looking for a new job can be very stressful and we want to help! To redeem this offer, use the Promo Code: [redacted] during the checkout process! This Special [redacted] Bonus expires in 48 hours. These days, you only have about 15 seconds to impress the reader. That’s why what your resume says (and doesn’t say) is critical. Since you are competing with many other qualified candidates, unfortunately even little things can sabotage your resume and give employers a reason to rule you out. In addition, resumes need to be keyword optimized for use on Social Media sites ([redacted] and others). Since 1994 we have written resumes for 150,000+ job seekers and we can help you! We know what works (and what doesn't work), what employers want, and what techniques win interviews. We poll hiring managers and recruiters to hear what they want in a resume so we can give you the edge! I have personally reviewed your resume and have some comments, so let’s get started! It will help to have a copy of your resume nearby for reference. Remember I am critiquing your resume, NOT your experience or ability.  Let’s start at the top with your opening section… First, your Summary of Credentials section definitely needs to be strengthened. With your summary only being a few sentences you really only tell us a fraction of what we should know about you to get a good head start. The limited information here is far from enough. Just for comparison purposes, some great summaries warrant as much resume real estate space as the first half of the first page. Next, I see you have included a "Key Strengths" section. This is a great strategy because it provides a quick and comprehensive look at your strengths from the beginning of the resume as well as help with those crucial key words so you can be found on the net!  Now, let’s move on to the body of your resume… In regards to your job descriptions, employers are looking for a specific format when they pick up a resume, and this one does not follow suit. You have bulleted every statement which is a very ineffective formatting tool not to mention indicative of a lower level career. Bullets are used to draw attention and they are usually best reserved for results and accomplishments. When you put your entire job description into bullets, you’ve negated their purpose. Another issue I see is with the content of your job descriptions. You've lumped accomplishments AND duties together when those two must be separated and formatted differently to be effective. Take a close look... some of your bullets are task-based, not results-based. For example:
Managed the project life cycle by creating and maintaining project plans, issue logs, meeting agendas and follow-up minutes... Maintained concise documents of decisions made during meetings between the Accounting Team and Price Waterhouse Coopers... Gathered requirements from business owners for use in IT data conversion projects...
Here’s the thing, you have the background and the experience, but you’re not organizing it in a way that stands out to the reader and says, “Look how unique I am compared to other candidates!” In this economy, you really need to SHOW the hiring manager how you are different. Your resume is your first and many times only impression you will ever make to the employer, it has to be positive! Next, you should always include a brief description of the companies at which you have worked. Don’t assume that employers will recognize "[redacted]" - no matter how big it is. By including main product/service delivered, annual revenues, size, number of employees, markets, etc., you will help the reader get a clearer picture of the environments in which you have worked. There is also no need to go back to 1998 with your job history. Employers are generally looking for the past 10-15 years of experience detail because that is what is most relevant to the challenges they face today. Cut off or simply list employers/job titles/dates that are far back in time. If you are concerned about showing depth, there are ways to truncate your older experience while still showing you have good background from which to draw upon. On another note, we do not recommend using months in your dates of employment because it makes your career history appear "choppy". The only exception is for the positions that were for less than 1 year.  Finally, you have too much detail in your Education section. Employers just need to know that you have a degree/certification, not when it was obtained (1993 etc.). Readers often use the dates to determine the age of the job seeker. Remember age discrimination can go both ways so it’s best not to risk it by omitting them.  In reading through your document, I noticed some issues with the wording… I don't see any glaring typos or spelling errors, which is good. But you do have some word redundancies ("Managed" etc.). By using the same words or phrases repeatedly, employers are left to assume that either you have a very limited vocabulary or that you simply didn't want to put enough energy/thinking into the resume. Change up the wording to create interest. When most job candidates write their own resumes, they don't consider word choice. Their primary concern is getting down the basic information. What you might not realize is that verbiage is critical, and the wrong word choice can sabotage your resume. When writing your resume, it's important to consider your audience. The average recruiter and/or hiring manager sees hundreds of resumes from qualified candidates for any given job opening. Resumes begin to look and sound the same. We need to make yours unique and stand out from the crowd of other resumes. Remember, [redacted], communication isn’t just getting words down on paper; it’s knowing what the reader is seeking, knowing how to get your message across succinctly, and knowing how to create clarity in your message. If you aren’t communicating well in your resume, hiring managers will assume you are not a good communicator in person.  The initial appearance of your resume is very important, and I see some areas for improvement… As you can imagine, I see MANY resumes on a daily basis. I can spot a resume that gives an amateur appearance versus a professional appearance right from the first initial glance. Recruiters and hiring managers can too. Yours, unfortunately, is not on par with other excellent resumes I see. I would recommend a more attractive or reader-friendly design to the document to provide a better first impression and better readability.  Good formatting and design is especially important for candidates targeting professional positions. Employers expect you to have a more pulled-together, slick presentation of yourself because they expect you to give a professional presentation to customers, vendors, and others with whom you would be dealing at your target level.   Some final thoughts… Try to view your resume from the employer’s perspective for just a moment. This person is probably inundated with a hundred other resumes PLUS yours in any given day – all from candidates who feel equally or more qualified than you. You need that extra edge a professionally written resume gives you. You want that reader to put down your resume and say, “I HAVE to meet [redacted]. I’d love to have someone like that on my team. I MUST get in touch now to set up an interview!” I truly feel you could benefit from our expertise, for we are experts at creating resumes that provide a firm foundation on which to build your career.  Are you ready to take the next step in landing interviews? We created a resume and cover letter draft for Mr. [redacted] based on his old resume and worksheets sent to us. After receiving the draft, he stated he didn't see why he was paying us $310 to write the resume. Our Senior Resume Manager twice asked to set up...

a phone consult to ascertain why he was unhappy, and to make corrections if needed, as it was a draft. We have been writing resumes for technology based clients and those in aerospace for more than 20 years. Rather than set up an appointment to discuss the document, Mr. [redacted] filed a complaint with the Revdex.com. In good faith, and because he was a referral to us from a very satisfied customer, we credited him $100 and STILL offered to work with him. We would be happy to continue the process as we are always committed to our clients, but his request for additional money to be refunded to him is not valid. We don't even understand to what he objects. Our resumes come with a guarantee: interviews in 30 days or we re-write for free. We poll recruiters and hiring managers twice a year to determine their preferences, and we've been the Resume Expert for security-clearance job boards. We really do have Mr. [redacted]'s best interest at heart, and would welcome a phone conference to go over the material and either (a) explain why we've phrased something as we have, or (b) make corrections that serve the client. Mr. [redacted] first came to us because he wasn't happy with the resume he had. Perhaps he is too familiar with it or not aware of what is featured in resumes for this job search in today's economy, but we're happy to work with him to ensure his success.

We would be happy to set up a call for the writer and our client
to go over the document. The writer has never been given the opportunity to
explain why some material was included and some left out. We've been writing
resume for this field for many years, and work closely with recruiters to
ascertain their preference in word choices and verbiage. We have an outstanding record of success, hence why we even have an interview guarantee. We would always be open to further work with this client.

Review: I paid $310 for a resume. The resume that GetInterviews delivered to me is completely useless. It is very weak, inaccurate, and misrepresents my accomplishments. I'm in a technical field (aerospace) and in management. I contacted GetInterviews Senior Writing Manager [redacted] and voiced my concerns that I would need to completely rewrite the resume that they provided. [redacted] stated that this is a new way for resume writing and that it's more focused on results. I agreed that's how a resume should look, so I identified what they left out, and worded technical items incorrectly. As well as how my originally stated responsibilities were taken out of context and that their presentation made me look inadequate and fraudulent. They are obviously not resume writers for technical fields and should inform their customers of that. I again reached out to [redacted] and explained that I do feel that I owe them something for their effort but not $310 for a document that I simply cannot use. [redacted] responded to inform me that she would credit my account $100 leaving me with a cost of $210.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed $210, leaving them $100 for their effort.

We created a resume and cover letter draft for Mr. [redacted] based on his old resume and worksheets sent to us. After receiving the draft, he stated he didn't see why he was paying us $310 to write the resume. Our Senior Resume Manager twice asked to set up a phone consult to ascertain why he was unhappy, and to make corrections if needed, as it was a draft.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: First of all I want no further action taken regarding the resume writers. I accepted an offer from an employer using my own resume. Getinterviews has a hard time sorting reality and truth from their own thinking. The "satisfied customer" they referenced was my wife, who was neither satisfied or dissatisfied as she obtained employment before she received a resume back from Getinterviews. I did not have a follow-up phone conversation with them because i've gotten several interviews using my own resume rewrite. They stated that they didn't understand what my issues were thats a lie! Here is what I addressed to [redacted] -

[redacted],

I understand what you’re saying about results orientation and business language as key drivers for the resume. However the “business language” that was left out of the resume and the way other key factors were misrepresented make me look inept, that I haven’t accomplished much and that I’m misrepresenting myself. Key words that any employer screening resumes for a Quality Leadership position were left out. Words and phrases like “Relentless Root Cause Analysis”, “Mistake Proofing”, “Corrective Action”, “Turnbacks”. Terminology like that define the potential of a Quality candidate. There’s no mention in the new resume of Corrective Action for the 2004 - 2007 period when I was a Quality Engineer. That’s the primary function of a Quality Engineer. Then, you identify the Calibration Lab as a “crucial function”. Yet the more crucial of functions are the “Non Destructive Testing” which deals with ultrasonic and radiographic scanning to check parts internally, and, Material Review Board, which controls all the nonconformance and the Engineering dispositions, which I was a member of the Material Review Board and I supervised members of the board for those functions mentioned. Look at what the new resume states what I did as the “head of the Material Review Board”. The “head" of a Material Review Board is a top level management position. You state “OEM manufacturer developing….” OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer”. UTAS is an OEM whose product is composite and metal bond nacelle systems. FYI - a nacelle is the structure that encases aircraft engines and includes the thrust reversers that slow the aircraft down when it lands. UTC acquired Goodrich so the product would be the same for Goodrich Riverside and UTAS Riverside. The new resume states that UTC was acquired. Concerning FAA functions. I performed conformity verifications and validations. Thats a specialty field that requires 100’s of hours of training and FAA approvals with certifications. The new resume states that I “managed” the activity.

I could continue but anything further would be pointless. I’ve been in aerospace for 30 years and I’ve interviewed and hired a lot of candidates in that time. This new resume is full of red flags and would need to be completely redone and I just redid the majority of it in this email. I owe you something for your time, [redacted], but not $310 for something that I can’t use.
