Getz Service Station Reviews (2)

Review: On April 25th, while leaving my job, my power steering went. I reversed my car and pulled it into a spot. I opened the hood to see the serpentine belt had come off track @ which point I called AAA. Coincidentally, it was a Getz tow truck driver who answered the call. My car was taken to Getz Service Station. The next day I contacted [redacted] in the office to tell her that I may be looking into getting into another vehicle because I was tired of this car nickle and diming me. (Approximately a year prior, Getz had repaired my serpentine belt for the first time. After which, my engine spit oil under my hood, creating the current situation.) **. [redacted] told me that she would have them look at my vehicle and let me know what it would cost me. I said "ok, that's fine." In the meantime I inquired about a new vehicle and stayed in contact with **. [redacted]. Never at any time did she discuss any fees, rates, or issues with the vehicle being there. I contacted [redacted] to tell her that I would be junking the old car. I asked if they buy junkers. She told me they would give me 100$ for it. I told her I would get back to her. I found a junkyard to come get it, and they offered me 350$. I called [redacted] and she said no problem! 2 hours later, she calls me and tells me that I have a bill for almost 84.00 for an hour of labor to tell me the serpentine belt was off, and for their mechanic to take my belt off completely, UNAUTHORIZED. I, of course, was floored at this. They had never charged me for an estimate before, and they did absolutely NOTHING to warrant a payment of that amount. When the tow truck came to pick up my car and title, **. [redacted] informed me that they could not take my car out of an insecured fence area unless she received my payment.Desired Settlement: I do not believe this company had the right to request payment for telling me something that I, as a non-mechanic, determined to be wrong with my vehicle.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The response from Getz is mostly untrue. I feel for [redacted] in the loss of his wife, and I'm sorry for the loss he is experiencing.

Yes, I work at a convenient store. I do know [redacted], the Tow truck Operator. When he arrived on the scene to tow my vehicle. I told him that the belt was off, and I guess he could take it to the shop. I said that I was tired of this car nickle & diming me. Never once did I say that I wanted the belt taken off, IT WAS ALREADY OFF. The next day I called and spoke to [redacted]. I told her that I would like the vehicle looked at and an estimate given. I never authorized any work. I never asked for the mechanic to add a degreaser to the engine. I don't know what that is. I did not ask them to take off the old belt, that they installed a year prior. I did not ask them to install a new belt. I simply asked for an estimate.

It was to my dismay, that while keeping in touch with [redacted] throughout the week, she never once told me any of these things. It is also to my dismay that when I went to pick up the vehicle to be sold to a junkyard, for pennies, I had to give away half of those pennies for labor I did not authorize, sign for, or know anything about.

When I did purchase another vehicle, I called [redacted] immediately. When I asked her if they would be interested in buying the Mystique she simply told me that they would give me $100 for it. I said that I would look around elsewhere. NEVER ONCE did she mention a drive belt, engine degreaser, or labor. It was, in fact, two to three hours later in which she called me back and left a voicemail on my phone telling me that I owed the 83 dollars and change. I was floored.

I did become angry, yes. Beligerent, no. I paid the fee, yes I was angry. I work hard for my money to be tricked and conned. [redacted], nor any mechanic, explained that they did these things to my vehicle. She only stated that this was a labor fee. She did not tell me the "work that was done" at ANY point until the response to my complaint. I'm sorry if they felt like they wasted their time to look at my vehicle only for it to be sold.

I guess the bottom line is that to Getz Auto Service, it was well worth it to lose a loyal customer for an hour of labor. I work in a gas station, and up until this situation, I was more than willing to recommend their services to any customer who asked. People break down a lot. After this, I tell them anywhere BUT Getz. Being in business for 35 years doesn't give you the right to screw the people in your community. I told [redacted] I thought she was making a mistake, and she replied that I only bring them service once or twice a year, as if that's not enough for her. I can't believe that a company truly feels that way about their customers.

When I was a kid, Getz had the reputation of Con Artists, I thought they had improved.

Regards,

Finally realizing no response has been made to this electronically submitted complaint (I forget from what site, and therefore am unable to return. At least this complaint is saved.), I decided to follow up.

October 22, 2013

Revdex.com [redacted], PA [redacted] Dear Revdex.com,

This complaint is against Getz Service Station, [redacted], PA [redacted], ###-###-####. After “winching” my wife from where she went off the road on Friday, October 11, 2013, they towed her to their station. She asked what collision center was nearby (to be towed there), and was told that the car would be taken to [redacted] where it would be repaired.

With the weekend/Columbus Day holiday, our insurance was difficult to contact. Shortly after the insurance company contacted us on October 16, we went to Getz. The attendant, [redacted], said that [redacted] did not make the repairs, which our car needed, and billed us for $663.26. This bill includes 6 days storage, $40.00/day for 6 days, or $240.00. This charge is unfounded, as my wife desired to be towed to a collision center. For those 6 days of Getz’s storage (when our car could be properly treated at a collision center), we expect to be charged for a rental car ($37.00 per day or $222.00 plus $13.32 tax).

Sincerely,

[redacted] and [redacted], PA [redacted]

###-###-####Desired Settlement: The $240.00 collected storage fee should be returned to me. Other charges mentioned in this complaint are quite an inconvenience/hardship. Since my wife "was told that the car would be taken to [redacted] where it would be repaired", but only was charged a storage fee, these storage charges are minimally unwarranted.

I am rejecting this response because: Mr. Getz was not (I was not either) in the tow truck when my wife insisted (as she is explaining to me) to be taken to a collision center. According to my wife, "The driver responded, 'No, no, no; we'll take care of (fixing) everything.'"Besides the holding fee of which my wife was never told, we had the extra expense of the rental car while our car was at Getz Service Station.
