GH Contractor and Handyman Reviews (1)

Review: I inadvertently hired a Class B contractor, [redacted], GH Contractor, cell ###-###-####, wife ###-###-####, to renovate my condo in [redacted] ([redacted] VA) 2 years ago. In the course of selling my condo, I have discovered that it should have been a Class A BLDG and HIC(?) contractor (building and electrical Class A). Recently, I signed a sells contract to sell my condo in which I agreed to supply the renovation permits by 6 Jun 14, but it turns out that the renovation contractor could not and did not pull the permits. I have since also learned that the electrical work in the kitchen is not up to code. It was in fact not up to code when he worked in the kitchen to install new appliances, cabinets and lighting. He did not point out the problem to me as any qualified electrical contractor would have done. he assured me that tghe electricial contractor was properly licensed. The contractor knows his renovation contract with me is vague and based on our telecon today, 16 Jun 14, he is planning to defend himself by claiming he did not do the work. The cost for the contractor to reimburse me for the corrections will be between $4,000 and $5,000. I hired a construction engineer who consulted with a master electrican. I think there is a basis for a lawsuit that will bankrupt the contractor. I am in the process of contacting construction attorneys to pursue legal action. I will attempt to have his license pulled. I am reporting him to the Revdex.com, the State of Virginia, the County of [redacted], and every website that allows me to rate his work.Desired Settlement: The contractor must send me a cashier's check for $ 4, 750.00 which will barely cover the total expense of correcting his work. The contractor must ensure that I recieve the check by 19 Jun 14.

Response:

July 9th, 2014Dear [redacted]:Upon review of the project documents, I have many found many discrepancies with the report filed by **. [redacted] and the actual contract we presented and agreed upon at the time of entering into this agreement in 2012.The contract specifies the scope of work to be carried out, which was mostly cosmetic and re-facing. The company was fully licensed, as is now, to do business in Virginia when the contract was presented to [redacted]. We provided Certificates of Liability Insurance, sent documentation of our license and went through the proper channels through DPOR to correct a mistake that was made in the classification of our license so that we would be in compliance to work in her building with commercial classification. All this documentation, along with non-architectural drawings, was compiled and sent with an application to the governing Board of [redacted]' building. The application was approved and that is when work commenced.Multiple telephone conversations have taken place between **. [redacted] and myself, **. [redacted] and my business partner, [redacted]. [redacted]. We have made attempts to resolve the situation and prior to this turn of events, **. [redacted] reassured us that the situation was being handled and she may not need our assistance any further, but would keep us informed. We didn't hear back until this complaint process was initiated. There was also a final attempt to contact her, via email correspondence, but no response was received from **. [redacted].The original contract, as presented to **. [redacted] and her tenant, [redacted] (was also delegated by **. [redacted] to work with us for the duration of the project) was in the amount of $23,500 with a change order of $2,850 for extras that were requested after the project began. This is an unfortunate situation and we've tried to discuss the matter with **. [redacted], but we are not willing to pay for additional items that our company was not responsible for.Sincerely,
