Review: Went there to renew my prescription for contact lens. During the runup to my actual eye exam they took the glasses I wore there to I guess test for their power. When the assistant returned my glasses they had a weird chemical smell and when I put them on I couldn't see through them because I thought they weren't cleaned properly. After further inspection lens had what is called grazing or glazing. In other words she ruined my glasses and then proceeded to say they were like that when I came in. I guess people come in all the time for contact lens prescriptions and scam them out of new glasses. When I got upset that they would not except responsibility for ruining my glasses. Then they said leave and had me drive home in glasses I couldn't see through.Desired Settlement: I want them to fix what they broke.
The individual came in for an exam and as part of our work up, we measure the prescription of their habitual glasses using a Lensometer. The lensometor is optometry for, verifying prescriptions of new glasses and for shocking existing prescriptions so it is very clean and free of any abrasives that may damage a lens. Part of the process is determining whether the lenses being read. are single vision. or bifocal. Since the individual was in the age range to wear bifocals, the technician in our office held the lenses up to the window to check for a progressive watermark that indicates the strength of the bifocal. They were in fact not bifocal but she grazing in the lenses and actually showed a doing next to her how grazed the lenses were. Grazing has beem observed in older lenses especially if they have been subjected to such as being left on the dash of a car in the sun or being to close to a heat source. The individuals glasses were not subjected to any heat source in. our office during his visit. This all took place before the lenses were cleaned. The technician then proceeded to read the glasses in the lensometer. After reading she ca11ed the individuals glasses using a cleaner that we use in our and actually sell to our patients because it is approved for all lenses and all coatings and Ex Chill that is approved lenses. This is a process that occurs in our at least 30 times a day and the utmost care is used to protect the patient glasses.The glasses were the individual, who put them on and immediately complained he couldn't see and that the technician had “ruined” his glasses. When the individual went in to see the doctor he immediately questioned him about the cleaning process and the doctor actually demonstrated using the same process and cleaners what had been done . The doctor could see that nothing would be accomplished at this visit since the individual was belligerent and asked him to leave. The manager was out of the office for the week and he was offered an opportunity to speak with her upon her return which he declined.
We have been in business over 30 years here in Ellsworth and have always run an ethical practice. If one of our technicians with a screwdriver and accidentally scratches a lens we take responsibility. All the employees involved in this incident are longtime experienced employees. We feel this individual was attempting to defraud our practice. Our actions did not damage his lenses and we will not reimburse him for something for Which we are not responsible.
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint.
So let me get this straight. Their logic is I would spend a $180 on a contact lens exam to defraud them out of a $50.00 pair of lens for my glasses. I wore those glasses to the exam. When I handed them to her there was nothing wrong with them.
When she handed them back to me they had a chemical smell to them and when I put them back on they obviously had been damaged. She used something on them she shouldn't have and refuses to admit it.
The Doctor said this happens all the time. In forty years of wearing glasses this has never happened to me or anyone I know. This is a legitimate complaint about a poorly run business and I want a record of it for others to beware.
