On 12/1/2013 I put $20 in the drop box to pay the electric bill. However, the co. is refusing to post the money to my account. They are requesting that I pay the full amount of $40. The system is a pay as you go and if the full amount is not paid the services will be automatically shut off. I have two young children (5 yrs old and 2 yrs old).Desired SettlementTo resolve this complaint I am requesting that the co. post the $20 that was paid so the services will not be shut off. I am concerned for my children's well being. For PAY-Go service, a customer does not receive a monthly bill; instead, they can make payments throughout the month so that their account does not reach a zero or negative balance. Due to tremendous popularity of our PAY-Go program, we've had to make the following modifications effective July 1, 2012:* A $40 minimum payment will be required for all PAY-Go Customer Service Representativeassisted transactions.The $40 minimum payment will NOT apply to credit/debit card and e-check payments through the automated customer service telephone system or through the Gibson EMC website.As with any customer, we will post less than the required $40 minimum and explain the requirements to the customer. We have done this several times with [redacted]'s account. We will continue to work with all of our members in any way possible.

I noticed that when I make a payment only half the amount is being applied to my account. When I called, I was transferred to "[redacted]" who states that I am being charged half of every payment to an old bill that is in my husband's name from years before we even met. I was never even told about this. I do not think it is proper business to just take someone's hard earned money to pay a bill in another person's name. I have had $243 taken from my account from 7/23-8/7 and placed on this bill. I put the electric bill in my name alone because I am the one who pays this bill from my 50+ hr checks working as a nurse in a nursing home. I dont earn easy money for someone to steal from me. My four children and I have been struggling and doing without proper meals lately because I am being made to pay for a bill from another adult. I would think proper business would not allow hard earned money to be "stolen" to pay another bill without notification. The company should use collection processes to collect the bill from the correct person and stop taking other people's hard earned money for such!!!Business Response We received a return check on the customer that included both her name and her husband's name. Due to that fact, a previous uncollectible in his name was transferred to the active account. Due to the fact that they were not married at the time that the uncollectible was created, we will remove the transferred amount from wife's account and move back the uncollectible to the husband's account. We will attempt recovery for this amount through our normal collections process.
