While they agreed to issue a pity payment of $330 that does not compare to the over $2000 I had to pay to have a running vehicle.  The starting problem was not the only issue with the vehicle.  No one forced them to take my offer they could have easily issued a counter offer or just declined my offer for the vehicle. Crying that they are at a lost in this deal does nothing for a vehicle that was suppose to be safe not to mention I still have to replace the wind shield that I was told would be about $150 with there guy but he wants to charge $250 a price I can get any  place.
This deal is a night mare nothing more.  While Kia is a good vehicle in general dealing with this dealer was a terrible experience, one I would not recommend to any one.

Apparently Ms [redacted] wrote this complaint prior to any decisions being made with what we could do to assist her because she was offered and accepted 10% of the price of her vehicle $330.00 to go towards repairs.  I was in close contact with [redacted] as they worked to diagnose her...

vehicle and unfortunately it was one of those cases where the problem was not clearly evident. The service department would make a best educated guess as to what was causing the issue and fix that part, and would learn afterwards that was not the issue....This happened a couple of times until the underlying issue was apparent. This is a costly way to diagnose, but sometimes the only way to go about it. We can not control what the cost of repairs will be and we are sorry that she had these issues. In no way, shape or form did we know of this problem and if we did, we would not have purchased the vehicle.  Our dealership specializes in vehicles $12,000. - $29,000. We have a handful of vehicles under $6k that either come in by trade-in or that local wholesalers will sell us. We "kick" most trade-ins to auction because they can not always pass the service inspection and/or recommended repairs are more than makes sense for us to re-condition the car. This is our normal practice and we have no qualms about not keeping these cars so when we decide to purchase or keep a trade-in it's because the repairs were minimal relative to the cost of the vehicle and the service drive went well. All of that being said, these older, high mileage vehicles tend to have the likelihood of more issues. Our customer Barbara came in to test drive, inspect and negotiate for the car she purchased. She paid $3355.57 + tax and license. for a 2005 KIA Sportage on a sales price of $3999. Had she paid full price I may have been able to offer her more assistance for the repairs that came up. As it was she was offered $330. to aid in the cost of her repairs that we have zero obligation to do. This makes this a below ZERO deal for us and an unhappy customer and that's a shame. I can only imagine that the dealerships that specialize in selling cars in this low price range are challenged with situations like this every day.

A couple of points to make regarding this sale. Mr. [redacted] is a previous customer highly satisfied with his original purchase. We sell 600+ cars a year and I am happy to report that about 570 of the customers are more than satisfied and many report their buying experience to be the "best one...

ever". That being said, we are in an industry that sells high dollar goods that have hundreds, if not thousands of moving parts and the older the vehicle gets, presumably the more likely parts will fail sooner or later. The SOONER part is when the few dis-satisfied customers have the greatest issue, understandably. Our Dealership specializes in vehicles $12k - $25k. We keep a handful of vehicles under $8k that we typically will take in as a trade-in. We send all of our vehicles to an outside vendor for a 62 point inspection. We do not have our own service department and typically most customers like the fact that we pay others to look very hard for things wrong with the car. The service shop wants to find things to repair because they earn more money. We are not mechanics so we have to trust the vendors we choose to work with that they are providing us with an accurate assessment of the vehicle's condition. It is not realistic to say we can make every used car new again, but I assure you we have a reputation from the vendors we use, from what other dealerships hear about us and from our customers that we do more than most any dealer in our area to make the car right. Mind you the law states we must make the car "safe" and the product should be able to do what it is intended to do, which in this case is to drive. We raise the bar significantly higher than that and always have.
So, when a good previous customer comes in on a $6,999. price and negotiates for days down to $5,540.76 (~30% less) that takes away my ability by about $1459.00 to assist him after the sale with any such incidentals that should arise. I am very sorry his check engine light went on, however what he is neglecting to state is that his car is running fine and could continue to run fine for a long time based on the codes he explained to us. The statement that he makes that Mike said "drive it until it explodes" didn't quite play out like that. Essentially, when Mike was exploring options for Mr. [redacted] they ran a few scenarios out---again given the price range of this vehicle one does have to carefully consider if investing a lot of money for a repair that may be needed down the road is prudent. You have about $40,000. worth of German engineering now for sale at $5500. If two things had occurred with this transaction may not have been viewed poorly. A) if he had paid full price or close to, we would at least have the option to assist him with any repairs B)In order to have assisted him with scenario A he would have needed a car that wasn't running. I'm not going to say I love driving with a check engine light on, but I think so many manufacturers have codes for everything now that you could spend half your life in and out of repair facilities with certain makes and models of cars. I suppose the last thing I will comment on is that our Dealership keeps about 60% of our trades. The rest go to auction. There is no benefit to us to "hide" a known issue. We rely on the service shop to give us the green light to retail a vehicle on our lot or to kick it to the auction "as is".  At the price he paid, we could have sold the Touareg at auction in hindsight we should have because we hate to bring this kind of drama about for our customers and for us. Simply, we sent the car to the shop, they recommended $456. in repairs we performed them and sold the car with good faith and good intent.  It is not our business practice to do it any other way.We had no issues while the vehicle was on our lot and everything else he said about repair shop opinions is just that, their opinion and not fact. Unfortunately I do not see a realistic solution with this customer.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: The dealership is doing more of the same, lying and spinning a yarn that simply isn't true. Bottom line is this: we have a vehicle we JUST purchased that we were told was in very solid, very sound condition. The discounting they speak if is a joke, they only gave us $500 of BECAUSE they said it was in SUCH AMAZING condition mechanically. We will be taking this further with the Attorney General and have already began work on a class action suit because this has happened numerous times to other buyers. The company is using the "we use an outside shop" as a way to distance themselves from issues like this. Other customers we have spoken to have told us this EXACT same thing and it will come out over time. Ultimately the costs to repair this vehicle are more than the car is worth. We are going to scrap the Tourig and we are totally out the entire price plus tax we paid for the vehicle. It is our sole mission in life to ensure that other people don't get taken like we did. We will also ensure that the loss of business to Goodfellas is, at very least, 100 fold to what they took us for. This is because they treated us like is and wouldn't even talk to us seriously about these issues. Had they simply been more accommodating, understanding, or offered even the most meager of settlement to help our situation we would not be here now. Sincerely,[redacted]

[redacted], to be fair you have neglected to mention that we gave you $500. the week after you purchased your car to assist you with what your mechanic indicated was wrong with your car. You had it diagnosed as needing a battery and an alternator, we blindly went with that diagnosis to help you out even...

though we would have preferred to have the shop we use verify the issue. We have since learned that your "back alley" mechanic (your words) has taken advantage of you and took your money, has gone MIA and gave you your car back in worse condition. We have operated with good intentions and have taken every phone call you have made to us offering to help you find a solution. A representative from the bank you financed your car reached out to us to see if we could have the shop we use diagnose your car. This is after you had your car towed and left on our property a month and a half after your purchased the car and after 714 miles of driving the car. We don't want $3,000. That was the quote provided for the mechanic to fix your car. This was done at your finance companies request. I assume he too was only trying to help you. It is unfortunate to be taken advantage of and it sounds like that is precisely what has happened to you, but not by us. We were working with your bank for any and all viable solutions for you. The story you told the finance company sounds nothing like the one you are speaking of here. You have shifted the blame to us when all we have done is prepare a car to be sold including performing the recommended service on it, sell it, and then participate in the expense of the repair of your vehicle based on what YOUR mechanic said was wrong. We unfortunately do not see how we are to blame for the next month and a half of misfortunes. Upon further review, there is a known issue with 2006 PT Cruisers and their timing belt failure and unfortunately it's a nearly impossible task to predict when and if the timing belt will fail which is what sounds like has occurred with your vehicle.FunctionThe function of a timing belt on a PT Cruiser is to turn the camshaft exactly one half the speed of the crankshaft. The camshaft must be aligned properly as it controls the intake and exhaust associated with the movement of the engine pistons.ProblemsThere are two main problems associated with the timing belt. The belt can break over time, causing the car to not start or shut down if it breaks in transit. The other problem is the belt can become worn and either slip or stretch out, ruining the timing and can cause the car to run badly.RemediesWhen the PT Cruiser's timing belt goes bad, it must be replaced. If the belt breaks while driving, it can cause damage to the engine and valves, meaning added expense and repairs.  ManageGoodfella's Motor Company This article may shed light on a known issue with this year of Pt Crusiers. Consumer is rejecting business response. I would like to address the $500 you stated you gave me toward the alternator, the invoice shows two separate amounts one of $318 and the second for $170.25 which was a refund for my tax and licensing. second I would like to address the amount of miles you stated I have driven on the car. I have had access to my car as of Aug 7th 2017 to September 7th 2017  at which time I worked at jack in the box which is 6.8 miles from my house one way. drove about 250 miles in one month at most running errands to grocery store. 700 miles is nearly impossible I do not know where you have gotten those figures from. I do not wish to receive any car from you, including the vehicle I have already purchased. I would like a full refund of my $500 deposit plus $250 for my Honda trade in and $180  for tax and licensing, plus $251 for my first car payment and it will make me whole.

Hi [redacted],I am the General Manager here at Goodfella's Motor Company and this is the first I am hearing about this. From what I have learned is that this was an extraordinary circumstance and has since been rectified. When you cancelled your warranty we have a legal obligation to pay the Lienholder...

the refund, not the customer. When we sold you the car you were financed through Wells Fargo Dealer Services and that is precisely who we sent your refund to back in April. Apparently, you had re-financed the vehicle from BECU without notifying us of the change and so the time that went by was the time it took for Wells Fargo to hold the check, eventually notify us that they were not the Lienholder and once they sent the check back and we attempted to contact you but  to no avail. We held the check until you surfaced to let us know where and to whom to send the check to. The owness in this case is on you given that you held all the key components to making this transaction go smoothly. This is quite simply an unusual circumstance. That being said, we have checked with our bank and the check we wrote to BECU has cleared our account. You should be able to verify this.  All the best, Tara [redacted]-E[redacted]
