Giles Painting and Home Renovation

TLDR: Don't contact Jason G for work!

Let me start by saying that I think I'm a reasonable person. If you are contacted to perform services, I understand that things may come up that can cause you to be late to the site or have to reschedule. Things happen. With that being said, working with Jason G, owner of Giles Painting and Home Renovations, has been a complete nightmare. He was contacted on Saturday to do a small tile job, approximately 8-10 man-hours of work. He was set to arrive at 8 am but didn't show up to 12pm. He neglected my requests to follow Ditra's installation instructions even though I had all the materials. I made him take up what he had done and use the right mortar for the job. Next day, he arrives late again. Basically, he was late every day and stayed late every night. I was told (by him) that he's had drug users/dealers and alcoholics at people's homes doing work. In short, here is a list of my complaints and why I STRONGLY urge you to avoid this guy's shady business: consistently late to work site, had helpers that were inexperienced (they grouted over spacers, grout is discolored due to incorrect mixing), cigarette buds and shards of tile littering the driveway, never came to put the appliances back in place, used and stole items out of my garage, did not cleanup work site, obstructed vent hole so cover does not fit, has not been back to correct shoddy work, does not respond to texts/calls. I checked online (a little too late) that he's stolen expensive items, spends material money not on materials, and does not complete work. Please take this into consideration when contacting this person for work. He is cheaper than others, but that's not always a good thing. I paid for that lesson. Hopefully no one else will. Sorry to rant, but I wanted others to be aware of the service this guy performs.

WARNING!!! Jason G and his partner Lee D recommended themselves thru a Facebook post (a comment that they later deleted) of mine that I posted looking for a contractor. I set up an appt for him to come look at the project and he brought his partner w/him. They seemed to do a thorough job, taking notes, etc. After he spent more than enough time in my mom's closet 'making notes', he was suddenly ready to hit the road. HE STOLE MY MOM'S MOST EXPENSIVE RING!!! My dad called him the next day to confront him w/the situation, thinking his partner might be to blame. Nope. Turns out (after filing a police report) we discovered HE HAS MULTIPLE FELONY WARRANTS!!! Do NOT hire this 'professional'.

Jason G is from the Gadsden area and moved to Cullman.
Jason G has been arrested and is currently in jail. They are currently residing in the Cullman area. Lee D has yet to be arrested (that's why this post is only to be seen by my friends)

I looked up reviews on Jason G on a contractor website (***) and saw that he had some how passed a background check and had average reviews. Not sure how you're supposed to know who you're hiring and exactly how you're supposed to do your own background checks. Just be aware!!! Expensive lesson learned.
