We are sorry the *** *** is having problems with the masonry on his homeThe water that is entering the home is not from any roofing or flashing work done by our companyThe existing stone walls have major cracks throughoutOur crew was lead by master installer Fergus S*** whom we have
had a relationship with for more then yearsHe oversaw all of the roofing and sheet metal work performed on this jobWe have worked on some very complicated projects over the years and I stand by the work that was doneThe bay window that is leaking was roofed with one sheet of metal, there were only areas where solder were even needed, at the top of each hip where it meets the wallwe then cut a new kerf into the existing masonry wall and installed a counter flashingThis is the proper way to flash and counter flash a masonry wall. The walls are 1-feet thick and our kerf is +/-3/of an inch deep, this will not cause a leak. In an attempt to help the owner solve this problem we brought Fergus back to take a look at the work as well as another copper smith, we have determined the work was done correctly and no water is coming in through the roof assembly or the counter flashingsWe water tested the area by subjecting only the roof and counter flashing to water from a hose and were unable to generate a leakWe then brought in a master mason, John G***He inspected the stone walls around the area and noticed several problemsThe most likely cause of the water intrusion are the large cracks in the mortar joints throughout the areaThe other item noted was that the newly installed windows (installed by others) were not flashed and were not installed with any weep holes. We have brought this information to *** *** but he dismisses our assessments out of hand and keeps repeating that it never leaked there before and therefore has to be our fault This was an insurance job resulting from the large hail storm we had in spring of *** *** received approximately $7,for the repair/replacement of his roofWe were able to negotiate a fair roof replacement cost of $446,for the work needed to bring his roof back to the original condition, we then completed the work for $80,less then the budgetThe owner got to keep the additional monies
