Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 11126408, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Geaux Construction did not fully perform work on my property as MrD [redacted] states See Guaranty Sheet Metal Works, Incroof inspection report already submittedI paid $2,to Guaranty Sheet Metal, and $to Charles E [redacted] for remedial work to bring the roof to code and to repair my property after Geaux left my premisesI am totally willing to pay him $1,but he has never been responsive to my emails and has not communicated with me since early November Attached are my emails to MrD***, dated November 10th, 20th, and 25th, I received no response from himHis statement in number about not hearing from me is erroneousI was not in town during any of the time Geaux Construction was at my home, a mistake on my part MrD [redacted] had done minor repair work on my roof prior to replacing the roofTherefore I felt he was trustworthy After the job was over, I met with MrD [redacted] in early November to address the unacceptable state of my property and hand him a couple of bags of screws and nails that had been left all over my property (and which could have injured my dogs) He suggested that Geaux should give me $to have my gardener clean up Geaux’s mess and damage It was at this time I decided I needed a roofing inspector MrD [redacted] became confrontational, and tried to pressure me to pay him the full amount of the balance of the contract, less $ I paid MrD [redacted] $5,000, and held the rest until such time as the results of the inspection became available My gardener was present during my November walk-through and had even communicated his concerns to me about the mess and unprofessional conduct of Geaux prior to my arrival in New OrleansI communicated this to MrD [redacted] in a text, dated October 16, 2015, and copied here Please let me know what day you will be completely finishedMy gardener who also looks after my house called me yesterday very concerned about damage to the garden: nails ( he picked up 15-himself)and caulking all around and some of my stepping stones split and other issues about your work that he felt damaged my propertyI had asked and you had agreed to cover all my plantsIt doesn't seem that was doneSomeone needs to go thru all the ground over to remove any nails or screw or anything else there since a tarp was not put down as well as complete all clean up.Sent from my iPhoneB [redacted] G [redacted] The roofing inspector from Guaranty Sheet Metal did not find Geaux Construction’s work on my home to meet International Building Code standards Attached please find the building code To the best of my knowledge, Geaux Construction does not have a license for home roofing work Oral representation of this was made to me by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors Guaranty Sheet Metal, as evidenced on their license (attached), has a specialty in roofing MrD***’ comment about having just 'another contractor' come out to my home, is misleading and not accurate Clearly this company is a leader in roofing inspection and was referred by House Call Home Inspection, the company who did my home inspection before I purchased the house in May 2013.It is interesting that MrD [redacted] thinks that I should have asked him to include drip edging, apron flashing, etc Since I am not a roofing professional, I cannot directly address best practices and industry standards from my own knowledge I had trust in MrD [redacted] to be knowledgeable about such things I hired a roofing inspector, after finding Geaux Construction’s work not acceptable My big mistake was not to do proper due diligence in researching this firm, which is why I have made this complaint I am currently following up communication with the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors regarding Geaux Construction’s licensure I have not been offered a warranty on work and materials, which I now understand is industry standard I believe that the roofing materials have a warranty on them through the manufacturer, but as I could not get MrD [redacted] to respond to me, I was unable to obtain from him any proof of the roofing shingles and other materials that were used Therefore, I am concerned about my ability to produce proof of materials used, should I have a need to avail myself of any warranty which exists on materials I want to make sure others are aware of my experience with Geaux Construction I encourage them to research any firm they are considering working with, more than I did Regards, B [redacted] G***

B*** G*** has made many inaccurate statements But the fact remains that drip edge completely around the home, apron flashing under gable material and new ridge vents were not part of the contract and therefore should have to be incurred by MsG***. Keith JD***Geaux Construction, LLC

Dear MsH***,Attached please find the following documents for complaint ID 11126408Roof Replacement Contract, shows fully executed copy, and more legible copyGeaux Construction business cardPhotos of messy jobsite and property damage Roof Inspection Report by Guaranty Sheet MetalIn my
original complaint, I did not specify that the roof replacement was done at my property located at *** *** Street, New Orleans, LA ***. As you can see in my original complaint, the initial contract was for $14,900. I verbally authorized an additional chargeof $for new plywood to be installed, bringing the total contract amount to $16,700.I contracted with Keith D*** of Geaux Construction to replace my roof and do additional work on fascia wood, etcfor $14,When he got into the job, he advised me verbally that he would need to install new 1/inch plywood throughout, for an additional cost of $1,800, bringing the total contract price to $16,I verbally authorized him to do this additional workThe work was not acceptableAfter numerous conversations with MrD*** during and after installation, it became clear that he was not as knowledgeable about roofing as he represented himselfTherefore, I hired an independent inspector who found that the work performed by Keith D*** of Geaux Construction did not even meet the International Building Code, adopted by Orleans Parish in I asked MrD*** specifically to protect my landscaping, and cover shrubsHe did neitherJob materials and coolers were placed on my plantsPaving stones on my property were broken by the workersHe maintained a very sloppy jobsite, and I had to hire someone to clean upThere were four trash bags worth of screws, nails, plastic bags and general trash left on my propertyGeaux Construction's business card says Licensed and Insured, but I have come to learn that Geaux Construction's Home Improvement certification is not current, and the commercial license renewal is under reviewMrD*** was not responsive when I left messages with my concerns. If you should have any questions, or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me atb*** or ###-###-####.Thank you.Sincerely,B*** G***

The contract was signed on March 30, 2015.  It called for Mr. C[redacted] to supply and pay for plumbing and electrical rough-ins.Mr. C[redacted]'s chosen plumber backed out of the job.  At Mr. C[redacted] request, I supplied him with 2 plumbers.  Mr.  C[redacted] was in direct contact and...

negotiations with Mr. D** H[redacted]  A few days later, in spite of a legal contract existing, Mr. C[redacted] informed me that he was going in a different direction. The project called for a laundry room to be converted into a bathroom and a bedroom into a shower. The plumber determining where the 2 new drains were going to be placed and installing them was paramount to the project moving forward.  I personally have more than 100 hours invested in this project.  They include:Meeting with Mr. C[redacted] at his home on at least 4 occasions to discuss the project after the contract was signed.Meeting Mr. C[redacted] at Home Depot to select materials and fixtures.Waiting at Mr. C[redacted]'s home to accept a delivery that he ordered from Loews.Drawing multiple sketches of the project due to Mr. C[redacted] constantly making changes.Meeting with [redacted] who was to supply framing, sheetrock and painting services.Meeting with electrician H[redacted] of Jesco.Meeting with electrician R[redacted] of Bellco.Meeting with plumber S** L[redacted].Meeting with plumber D[redacted] several times.Removing the sheetrock from the laundry room and the bedroom.I do not believe that Mr. C[redacted] is entitled to having any funds returned to him.  In spite of that, I am willing to return $2,000 to Mr. C[redacted] if it provides a satisfactory resolution.K[redacted]sGeaux Construction

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 11126408, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Geaux
Construction did not fully perform work on my property as Mr. D[redacted] states.  See Guaranty Sheet Metal Works, Inc. roof
inspection report already submitted. I paid $2,200 to Guaranty Sheet Metal, and
$360 to Charles E[redacted] for remedial work to bring the roof to code and to
repair my property after Geaux left my premises. I am totally willing to
pay him $1,690 but he has never been responsive to my emails and has not
communicated with me since early November.  Attached are my emails
to Mr. D[redacted], dated November 10th, 20th, and
25th, 2015. I received no response from him. His statement in number
3 about not hearing from me is erroneous. I was not in town during any
of the time Geaux Construction was at my home, a mistake on my part.  Mr. D[redacted] had done minor repair work on my
roof prior to replacing the roof. Therefore I felt he was trustworthy.
After
the job was over, I met with Mr. D[redacted] in early November to address the
unacceptable state of my property and hand him a couple of bags of screws and
nails that had been left all over my property (and which could have injured my
dogs).  He suggested that Geaux should
give me $250 to have my gardener clean up Geaux’s mess and damage.  It was at
this time I decided I needed a roofing inspector.  Mr. D[redacted] became confrontational, and tried
to pressure me to pay him the full amount of the balance of the contract, less
$250.  I paid Mr. D[redacted] $5,000, and held
the rest until such time as the results of the inspection became available.
My
gardener was present during my November walk-through and had even communicated
his concerns to me about the mess and unprofessional conduct of Geaux prior to
my arrival in New Orleans. I communicated this to Mr. D[redacted] in a text, dated
October 16, 2015, and copied here.
Please
let me know what day you will be completely finished. My gardener who also looks
after my house called me yesterday very concerned about damage to the garden:
nails ( he picked up 15-20 himself)and caulking all around and some of my
stepping stones split and other issues about your work that he felt damaged my
property. I had asked and you had agreed to cover all my plants. It doesn't seem
that was done. Someone needs to go thru all the ground over to remove any nails
or screw or anything else there since a tarp was not put down as well as
complete all clean up.Sent from my iPhoneB[redacted]
G[redacted]
The
roofing inspector from Guaranty Sheet Metal did not find Geaux Construction’s
work on my home to meet International Building Code standards.  Attached please find the building code.
To
the best of my knowledge, Geaux Construction does not have a license for home
roofing work.  Oral representation of
this was made to me by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.  Guaranty Sheet Metal, as evidenced on their
license (attached), has a specialty in roofing.  Mr. D[redacted]’ comment
about having just 'another contractor' come out to my home, is misleading and
not accurate.  Clearly this company is a
leader in roofing inspection and was referred by House Call Home Inspection, the
company who did my home inspection before I purchased the house in May
2013.It is interesting that Mr. D[redacted] thinks that I should have asked
him to include drip edging, apron flashing, etc.  Since I am not a roofing professional, I
cannot directly address best practices and industry standards from my own
knowledge.  I had trust in Mr. D[redacted] to
be knowledgeable about such things.  I
hired a roofing inspector, after finding Geaux Construction’s work not
acceptable.  My big mistake was not to do
proper due diligence in researching this firm, which is why I have made this
complaint.  I am currently following up
communication with the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors regarding
Geaux Construction’s licensure.
I
have not been offered a warranty on work and materials, which I now understand
is industry standard.  I believe that the
roofing materials have a warranty on them through the manufacturer, but as I
could not get Mr. D[redacted] to respond to me, I was unable to obtain from him any
proof of the roofing shingles and other materials that were used.  Therefore, I am concerned about my ability to
produce proof of materials used, should I have a need to avail myself of any
warranty which exists on materials.
I
want to make sure others are aware of my experience with Geaux
Construction.  I encourage them to
research any firm they are considering working with, more than I
did.

B[redacted]
