Glenmuir Apartments of Naperville Reviews (%countItem)

We've lived here at Glenmuir for a month and within that month they've been able to show us just how terrible they are at both customer service, maintenance, and pest control.
The apartment we signed for was being advertised as $1099 a month. We went through the place and thought it looked great. It was a nice area and close to Rt. 59 which made getting to work nice and easy. The next day, as we're about to sign the lease, we're told by the leasing agent that she "shouldn't have offered us the place at $1099," and that now we're only getting it for 4 1/2 months before they will need to raise the rent because the apartment is getting upgraded. The only problem is we're now stuck signing the lease because we would have no place to live otherwise since we're nearing the end of the month. And it gets better because they can't tell us what the new price will be until at least October.
Well, October came and they want to raise the price $300 a month. What does that extra $300 get us? New lights, a carpet to be removed and replaced with linoleum, and a new fan! We're told by our leasing agent that they wanted to raise it even higher, but that she "fought" for us, which neither my wife nor I believed.
What already came with the apartment?
- A mice infestation. There's no greater luxury at this luxury apartment than having to murder 5 mice in 72 hours 2 weeks after you move in.
- A loud knocking sound that lasts for 5-10 seconds every time you flush the toilet. When you ask them about it, you're told that is just "one of the quirks of the water system. It happens in every apartment."
- Maintenance that takes 4 days to come out to look at a plugged toilet.
- A storage door that won't open with your key. We've been promised a new storage lock for a month now and we haven't even heard from maintenance about it. The closest we've seen any work done to it was one day it was just unlocked so anyone could have taken our stuff.
- The dumpsters are a mess. They constantly overflow with garbage.
- A staff that apparently didn't realize we could overhear them when they referred to my wife as "that Jenny (not her real name) girl" when we first came looking at their apartment.
- And while we haven't personally had to deal with any safety concerns, I was witness to a conversation with the front office from a tenant who feared for their life because the next door neighbor kept threatening to kill them.
This place was barely making it worth it to spend $1099 a month here, let alone $1349. And I can definitely say that whatever they actually wanted to charge us would have probably been more expensive than moving to Chicago and finding a place there.

My boyfriend and I were looking to move here. He initiated the process and was told I did not need to sign the lease or fill out an application, he was also told that any deposit was refundable. The application process was long and drawn out, communication with the company was terrible. They ended up making me fill out an application, and wanting me to be on the lease as well. At this point we submitted our deposit of $450, although I was never informed what the deposit covered. After that we were informed they would not approve our application unless I was the only one on the lease, which I was not comfortable with. When I asked for my deposit back I was ignored until I told them I would get a lawyer involved, and was then told because I signed the application and it was accepted they would not refund my money. I understand I signed it, but I was never informed that was the case. Furthermore, when I signed the document I was under the impression I would not be the only one on the lease. They did not approve both my boyfriend and me to be on a lease together, so I do not think what I signed was technically approved and I should be refunded my money. $450 for a deposit seems like a lot, and I'm afraid they scammed me.
