I, *** ***, owner and operator of Lakeside Repair Services, received your letter today,
March 18, I am writing this in response to your letter
The customer, *** ***, came into my shop to have the stereo, speakers, and amp installed in his boat on March 7, 2014, but he did not bring the key for the engineI allowed *** *** to bring his own products (stereo, speakers, and amp) in to be installed to save him some money, because he was all about “save money, save money”I did the work and he came in to pick it up on March 10, I showed him the work I had done and let him listen to itHe was very happy with it, paid me $for the services, and left with his boatHe came back March 11, complaining there was interference in the stereo from the motorI told him that he could bring it back with the key and I would fix it free of chargeHe said that he had already put his boat in the water and did not want to take it back outSo I told him instead of taking it out of the water to bring back to my shop that it was an easy fix; only a five dollar part, only five minutes to place it and he could do it himselfAt this time, he became irateHe said that I just lost his business and he would not be backI have had around five hundred customers that have been more than happy with my workThere have also been three boats that I have replaced stereo systems and amps in, with only one that needed the part that *** *** needed to block the interference from the motorTherefore, I had no idea if his boat needed this part without the key to crank it

I,*** ***, do understand that he was upset that it did not work as he thought it should; I myself would be upset tooBut first of all, I bent my rules a little with *** *** by letting him buy his own products for me to install, because he is a returning customer. I do not usually do this, but he was all about saving money, as anyone else is. So after we did some searching for what he wanted at my shop, I decided to allow it, trying to make the customer happyHe had even said that he may install it himselfHe later called and said that he would bring it in and brought the boat in with only the speakers and amp, no wires or connectorsHe said that we could provide those when fixing itHe said that he forgot the keyI then told him that I did not need the key to play the radio, but I could not test for interference without the keyHe then said ok and he would drop a key off, but he never didWhen he came to pick it up, the radio played great, he was happy with it, played with it for about an hour in the parking lot, but he still did not bring the keyOnly one out of ten stereos need this engine noise filter for the interferenceHe came back about days later, voice raised, saying, "We have a problem, We have a problemI can hear the engine noise over the radio." I told him to bring it back and I would install the low cost, only $5.00, part free of chargeHe did not want to take the boat back out of the water and wanted me to come to where the boat was, to fix it, which would have taken hoursI suggested that he could install the filter himself, faster and easier, instead so he would not have to bring it back to my shopThe reason I offered for him to fix it himself is because he had originally said that he would install the amp and speakers himself, until he changed his mind to bring it to meThis infuriated him and there was no talking to him after thatHe then stomped his feet, said I just lost his business and wouldn't be back, then left my shopOne of my employees, which happens to be my son, was there both timesMy question is, if he could get the boat out of the water to take to someone else to fix, why did he not bring it back for me to fixI told him more than once that if he would bring it back, I would fix the problem free of chargeI think he was just so angry that he was not listening to what I was telling himAlso, I do not agree with what he said about the wires being improperly installedAs far as resolving the concerns, I do not see what I can do since he has already taken it somewhere else to be fixedI am not willing to give him his money back because I was not at faultAlso, I am not willing to pay his bill of $at *** *** of ***, because again, I was not at fault and he should have brought it back to me to fixAgain, he was happy with my work when he left my shop with the boatI would, however, be willing to give him a half hour credit for any future work

I received the email concerning my complaint about Lakeside repair and the response from the owner. Fist off he never offered to repair anything for free. Concerning not having the key, I had forgot to bring it on the initial visit and he told me he didn't need it. I have since had a Professional stereo service (Music masters of[redacted] SC) repair the work at a cost of 159 dollars. It was originally installed with improper wires,to small, no ground was put on the wiring to the battery from the amp,and the speakers were improperly wired. a five dollar part would in no way fix my problems...just thought you would like to know....[redacted]

 His statements are filled with half truths. The fact is he never offered to fix the problem, a five dollar part would not have fixed the bad wiring with no ground connected and to small wires. A half hour credit for any future work done? I would have to be out of my mind to ever take anything to him to work on again
