Global Construction Reviews (%countItem)

I hired Global Construction to handle a reconstruction of my 2900 sq. ft. house after an upstairs bathroom flooded almost the entire house. They dealt directly with the insurance company and that was the only part of the process that was handled well. I put down $20,580.13 of the insurance claim money long before work even started and was told by Denis, the owner, that the project should take about 4 months to complete. Once the construction started in October 2019 after making sure that our house would be a priority, I was never given a new contract detailing the exact cost for each line item. I only had the Exactamate, insurance software, estimate that they filed with the insurance for $58,900.04 which included the kitchen cabinet purchase and all tile purchase. We started with one project manager, who quit the company after a few weeks. Then Denis, the owner, took over for a couple of months until he hired a new project manager who also quit the company after a few weeks. The last project manager told me that Denis did not use detailed contracts. By the middle of December, Denis was asking for a progress payment of $13,000.00 for demolition, drywall install, and cabinet install. When asked what the previous $20,580.13 was used for, Denis' response was that there are costs like project management, overhead, profit and such that don't show as line items on the Exactamate estimate. The only demolition they had done was one 7 foot wall of cabinets and removal of a stove, oven, and microwave as the rest of the cabinets, all of tile, and drywall were demolished months before by an asbestos removal company. By November 11, 2019, Global had laid tile, I had purchased on my own, in 3 bathrooms, and the kitchen/laundry room, and installed kitchen cabinets I had purchased on my own. I gave them the $13,000.00 and they proceeded to paint the kitchen/laundry room, 3 bathrooms, and master bedroom by mid February. The entire four months I kept asking why people were not working on our house daily and why our project was not a priority as they kept pulling their people for other jobs. It had been 4 months, a cost of $33,000.00 of the $58,990.04 project total, and we still could not move into our house. When I inspected the work, and asked why they would paint the kitchen ceiling before finishing the electrical lighting and drywall repair, I was told that sometimes their painters get ahead of themselves. It was everyday that I was attempting to get answers as to why there was no one working on our house and not getting any responses back at all. The paint jobs were poorly done. No nails or screws or drywall dings were fixed before painting. They just slapped paint over top. The tile floor in our half bath was uneven. I was told that the floor underneath sloped so that was pre-existing. Which I know it was not, but even if it was, why not contact me to find out what I wanted them to do about it. I asked about the paint job and Denis told me that it would have cost more to fix things and paint than to just paint so that was not in the estimate, and that they would have been calling me all the time to ask questions if they worked that way. I never received any questions as to how I wanted anything done. That would be because there was never a project manager on site. The contracted workers, if there, were on their own. In four months our basement work had not started, nor the hardwood floor replacement on the main floor, nor the rear outside siding replacement and painting. A floor to ceiling kitchen cabinet had been installed incorrectly so that it did not line up with the other cabinets and some cabinet doors were put on backwards and not tightened completely. They purchased and installed 2 new interior doors and painted them, even though I specifically asked that they keep the hardwood doors there and just paint them. I fired Global Construction in February and had to hire new contractors to redo the half bath tile, repaint all of the areas Global painted, and reinstall some cabinets as well as finish the rest of the project. I sent Global Construction a certified letter on March 21, 2020 asking for a refund for $16,700.00 detailing why I believed we were due a refund. I only asked for $16,700.00 even though I believe we are due $22,700.00, because I thought, it would be more likely to get a smaller amount back if we were to get any. As of April 8, 2020, I have not received any response from Global.

contacted us in July of 2018 to help her with the flood claim. She gave us $20,580 down payment to start working on her claim. We worked with her insurance company since August 2018 till about January 2019. It included supplementing, providing bids from subcontractors, requesting Itel reports, material costs, meeting with adjusters, admin work, numerous field verifications and field meetings, office meetings, correspondence with insurance, etc. We spent over $11,000 in our staff salaries just trying to assist her in collecting money. Following staff worked with insurance: *** ($6,150), *** ($1,080), *** ($440), *** ($310), *** ($2,640), Itel Reports and admin work ($860).After 5 month of working on her claim insurance company was denying to pay for all of the expenses especially the damage that seemed to be preexisting and was not caused by the flood. For example insurance company did not want to pay for carpet replacement but only for cleaning (*** wanted it to be replaced), drywall replacement was not being paid for besides few areas in the flood zone (*** wanted to replace a lot more claiming it was caused by the water damage), additional flooring that she wanted done besides what was damaged by water during the flood, not all electrical was getting paid for by insurance company, etc. We provided her detailed scope of work with detailed cost (we can provide as a proof) to do the additional work and explained that the cost difference will have to be paid out of pocket. *** did not want to pay out of pocket and decided to hire an attorney to sue the insurance company. After about 7 month she received a good settlement from the insurance company and reached out back to us asking to start working on the project and to do the work for the previously proposed amount and scope. After 7 month the cost of labor and material increased drastically in Denver market but as a good faith we decided to help *** out and get it done within that cost at our expense. We had prior commitments prior to her contacting us but still tried to accommodate and get it done within 4 month as discussed. Since the actual work started we have done a lot of work: demolition (removing cabinets, remove some tile, appliances, damaged drywall, damaged electrical, damaged flooring, etc.), electrical work (installing new electrical runs per code, updating damaged, install can lights, etc.), Installation of the tile (kitchen, laundry room, all bathrooms. Ended up installing about four times bigger area than we had in the scope), hang/tape and texture drywall patching thought the house and flood area (Did a lot more drywall than we had within the scope), Doors install (per scope), Trimwork (case/base), Installed the cabinets, Insulation install, passed all rough inspections (besides the final since *** decided not to let us finish), plumbing (toilets, valves, waterlines, etc.), painting throughout, etc. Up to date we collected $33,580. The work that was done is over $55,000 that is not including work with insurance company over $11,000. When Mrs. Nishida told us that she wants to cancel after multiple attempts to collect progress payments (we were at 92% completion) unfortunately it was obvious that she did not want to pay. We did not even pursue collections of the final progress payment to avoid any further escalation. We have all the proof with detailed scopes of work with detailed pricing, all daily logs/reports, before and after pictures (few are attached), communications, etc.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I have copies of the scopes I was given. The only things in the scope were what were in the insurance companies scope. I had not asked them to do anything outside of the insurance companies scope except tile one 4x4 ft patch in kitchen and another 5x6 ft patch in master bath. I have copies of emails sent from *** to Safeco Insurance claiming that they agreed with the scope of the project but not the costs. My issues with the insurance company are not my issues with Global Construction. Their estimate came in about $20,000 higher than the Insurance estimate. The insurance company asked for other estimates and Global was able to get one of their friends to give an estimate and I got the other 2. The pictures Global has attached show the before they started work. The asbestos removal company that the insurance paid for did all of the demolitions viewed in the pictures. The cabinet and appliances shown are the only removal they did. They removed wood flooring in the 4x4 ft. patch that was extra and the carpet in the 5x6 ft. patch. They are claiming $11,000.00 is what was spent dealing with the insurance company, but our down payment was $20,580.04. Covered. The only work that did not have to be redone was most of the tiling in the kitchen and the 2 upstairs bathrooms. I was not attempting to get anything out of the insurance company that was not damaged by the water. We discussed before they started, of possibly adding a few upgrades however, we had not done so yet. We just wanted to move back into our house after 19 months of arguing wit the insurance company so we were not worried about extras but just about livability at the point that they started. I have attached pictures showing the quality of work that was done. As for the invoice for $13,020.00 that Global has now decided to charge us because of our Revdex.com complaint, the amounts are ridiculous. $3500.00 for plumbing of the removal and reset of 3 toilets, $5500.00 for electrical rough in which took the electricians at most 6 hours, and $4,020.00 for tiling the floor which one sixth had to be redone.

Sincerely

Pictures presented in the attachment
are standard punch list items. It is a standard industry practice to go over
any touchups at the end of the project and take care of them. Since ***
decided to terminate us prior to completion we did not even get a chance to
take care of them. Per Colorado statute the homeowner is obligated to provide
proper notice and allow the contractor to take care of any alleged defects.
*** decided not to do so and just terminate the agreement.

We did quite a bit of free
items that *** did in fact asked us to do. Electrical is one of the items. We
had to run the new circuit for her island’s GFCI because *** wanted to
relocate the cabinets to provide clear walkway between cabinets. We install
additional can lights that she requested to be install. By doing this work we had
to cover the cost of additional electrical work and drywall patching. She did
not reimburse us for that. We installed a lot more tile than we had in the scope
and we had to get creative to find the funds.

During our final walk we
explained to *** that we will do everything so she is satisfied with the work
that is within our scope. However, she will have to pay for additional items
and pre-existing condition. That was not satisfying to *** and she terminated
us on the spot. When we originally walked the project, we pointed out some of the
existing conditions to ***. One of the items was drywall. It was in a bad
shape, had a lot of gauges, poor patching workmanship. We discussed the cost of
popcorn ceiling removal and skim coating of the exiting walls to fix the issues.
*** did not want to do it. During the final walk we were accused of being
unprofessional because we painted over existing damage and not even asking if
she wanted to do that. Keep in mind that our CEO personally discussed it with
the homeowner during the initial project walk.

We did a lot of work and were
waiting for a progress payment but instead we were terminated to avoid a payment. We were planning on letting it go but it is not fair for us to lose
money, get a complain and on top of it all ask for a credit.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I really felt there was no other recourse. The project was not their priority and was taking way too long. And the quality was subpar. I have had to hire other contractors to redo the shoddy work and to finally finish the project. I made sure to ask these other contractors how they would go about painting (i.e. fix divots, scrapes, remove screws, nails and such, then paint? Or just paint over?) I was told by multiple contractors that the work was implied when painting is done. The cost of painting with each contractor was the same if not less than Global's even with the imperfection fixing. I had to ask daily if Global was going to have any workers at my house. And more often than not, I was told that, 'No, that they were needed on one of their assisted living projects, and they would let me know when we could expect them at our house." But I would have to ask each time. When there was someone working on my house there was no project manager on sight, and they were never there for a full day. The scope of the project changed minimally from the original insurance estimate, the one that Global agreed to. So if the tiling on their estimate did not match the insurance estimate that would have been their error, not a change in scope by us. The only reason they were willing to not charge me a new progress payment for electrician was because I had already paid $33,000.00 and they were aware that it was more than enough for the work done. There is no way they would have forgone money otherwise. The reason I am asking for a refund of $22,000.00, is because I had to repay for the work they had already done so shabbily. When I asked them directly for a refund, I got no response. Therefore, I am making a complaint. We used extreme patience and gave them every benefit of the doubt. But after 4 months and only half the work completed without extreme changes to the scope and the work being subpar, our patience and faith in Global's ability had expired. There is no reason we should have had to pay for the work twice. But we have. We deserve the refund.

Sincerely

Messy work, left sewage smears on our walls. Had me evacuate with my baby and dog to fumigate. Then wanted me to facilitate another hotel stay with my insurance because they had not done the work during the scheduled time. Failed to invoice us or our insurance company for months, despite multiple calls. A prior employee claimed they'd not paid him. They upsold me items not covered by my insurance, then became aggressive and threatening liens moths later, when I'd not been billed. Finally, offered to bribe me with gift cards to delete my negative review on Google. Overall, extremely low integrity.

Mrs ***,
After you contacted our company we responded on site within an hour of you contacting us and took care of your sewage spill the same day.
You were asked to leave the house to avoid any exposure to hazardous materials. Per our protocol we focus on our clients safety.
We worked with your insurance company to get you paid. Insurance paid you for the work we did and you still have not paid us for the hard work we did.
We responded immediately, took care of the spill and submitted all required paperwork to get your claim paid.
The work was done by our in-house crew and we pay all our people on weekly basis so that is not an accurate statement about somebody not getting paid otherwise they would not be working with us anymore as they still do. Unfortunately you still have not been paid for our services despite multiple attempts to collect the payment. Regarding upselling you we did not even collect what is owed to us so there was nothing to upsell. Feel free to reach out to discuss this further.

They did a good job on our roof I was very satisfied.
