After receiving information of Mrs [redacted] 's complaint, concerning her deck, we went to her home on March 21, to assess the problemJust to be sure as to why the screws were rusting I removed three of them and took them back to where I purchased themThey confirmed my suspicion as to what had happenedThe material that Mr [redacted] had used to cover the screw holes with before he painted the deck, had a chemical reaction to the screws coating, which caused the rustingThere were also two decking boards that were seeping sap, one on the deck flooring and one on the stepsWhen wood temperature gets hot it can sometimes seep sap and that is the beyond anyone's controlMrs [redacted] was not happy with the way some of the wood was crackingCracking happens when treated wood is not allowed to cure before paintingI had brought this to Mr [redacted] 's attention the day he was painting the deck I returned back to Mrs [redacted] 's home on Saturday, March to exchange out all of the screwsDue to the caulk and paint the screws were almost impossible to removeI told Mrs [redacted] that I would replace the pickets and handrails and the two decking boards that were seeping sap(attached to back of house only)I asked Mrs [redacted] if I did this would it satisfy her complaint and she said yes I have been in business for many years and have done other projects for the [redacted] 's and as far as I know they have always been satisfiedI have always tried to do all of my work in a professional workmanlike mannerI have never had any complaints from my other customersEven though I feel that the problems that occurred with this deck are not my fault and are not associated with anything that I have done, I am willing to replace what I told Mrs [redacted] I would replace to resolve this matter(stated above)Please note that I brought to Mrs [redacted] 's attention that when the pickets and handrails are replaced that they should not be painted or stained until the wood has had time to curePainting or staining is not included in our agreementRespectfully, [redacted]
