I purchased a brand new 2400 OB with a number of upgrade options. In total, I paid over $100,000 (including shipping) to receive the boat. After a number of trips out on the boat, I noticed the steering was quite stiff and during operation, needed a lot of muscle to turn the steering. I had the dealer look at the boat, and he said that because the engine was a Yamaha 300, it was a bit too much engine for the steering. He said the steering is operating per manufacture but would let the manufacturer know I was not happy. I received an email from [redacted] Supervisor and responsible for Warranty. Their suggestion was I spend another $2,600 and upgrade the steering to Hydraulic. I disagreed and my position is I already purchased "Power Assist Steering" for $2,300 as an upgrade. There was no option to buy Hydraulic. If the option I paid for doesn't address the issue, why didn't they put this in to begin with? Terri, having no sympathy for the safety of my family, says if it's not defective, I have to pay. Again, my position is I have had several boats and never experienced this before. It is not safe as the steering needs a lot of muscle to steer the boat. My view then is we don't see this issue with comparable boats, it has to be a design flaw. I would like other customers thinking of buying a Hurricane Boat to think twice about whether they want to purchase from this company. Their customer service is unfriendly and unsympathetic. They don't stand behind the quality of their product. I am now seeking legal advice and will seek a full refund plus costs because of the way I have been treated and because of the unsafe steering issue.
