Going Irrigation of Central Florida Reviews (%countItem)

Poor design of water system. They would not repair their install even though we offered to pay.
This was a new install. There was only bare dirt. They could have done what it needed and we would have paid. We did not skimp on cost and in fact we paid close to $2,000- For all that money, they gave us a poorly designed and inefficient sprinkler system.- We have a large yard out front. They only installed one zone to WHOLE FRONT YARD. So, we must overwater 80% of the lawn to get water in the other 20% and still there are dead spots. We have a garden in the middle of the lawn that gets way to much water, most everything has died. We literally water the front for an hour every single day to keep areas alive. NOT LOOKING GOOD, JUST ALIVE. We asked them out and they walked off without ever offering any solution.

Desired Outcome

We want at least some more heads where the lawn is always dry. We would like different or redirected heads making the garden less wet.

Going Irrigation of Central Florida Response • May 16, 2018

In response to case #XXXXXXXX we would like to address each of the issues the
customer filed in this case.

First I feel it necessary to point out this job was the second install for this
particular customer, we had done another system for them at another property in
2014 and service to that location in 2015.

This particular installation referenced in the case above was done in October of
2016.

The installation was done on reclaimed water and inspected and passed by the
city of Pinellas Park prior to completion.

It was 13 months later in November of 2017 that the customer called and
requested us to return and give them an estimate on some changes or adjustments
to the system.

Upon arrival the first thing I noticed is that the yard looked great and
couldn't see any obvious issues with his yard.

We spoke with the homeowners wife and she called her husband and put him on the
phone to explain what it was he wanted changed.

The customer wanted us to make changes to his system and for us to guarantee
that his entire yard would get 1/4" of water distributed equally, so if he put
cups or bowls out to measure the water throughout his entire yard the water would be
equal in every cup.

He became quite irate when we told him that we couldn't give him a guarantee to
that extent.

After several minutes on the phone with the customer being belligerent while I
tried to explain why this was an unrealistic request and couldn't possibly do
what he was asking, I handed the phone back to his wife and said there is
nothing we can do for you.

At that time I felt that it was best to walk away rather than get into a verbal
conflict with a customer on the phone while standing in their front yard.

Later that evening I received a message from the home owner where he proceeded
to use profanity and made threatening statements about ruining my business.

Again, I felt it was better to let it go instead of instigating the issue any
further with additional contact with this customer.

In the customers original complaint they stated that what was installed was a
poorly designed and inefficient sprinkler system.

But when he called us to return 13 months after the installation he never said
he wasn't happy with the irrigation system, just that he wanted an estimate to
make changes to some heads.

Also if the customer really did feel like the system was poorly designed why
would they wait more than 16 months to file a complaint?

The customer also stated they water for an hour every single day just to keep
the area alive, emphasizing "NOT LOOKING GOOD, JUST ALIVE"

It is possible they are over watering the yard, and as I stated when we arrived
at the house the yard looked very good.

I have and can provide photos of the yard prior to installation and current
photos of a beautiful lawn, one of the nicest on the block.

Lastly, as far as the estimate of a 4 zones system and only 2 being installed.

Zones are determined by water volume, with low water volume you need more zones
for good coverage but the same amount of sprinkler heads are used regardless of
number of zones.

Estimates are figured assuming less water volume, but again the same amount of
heads would be used for complete coverage.

Once we were there for installation we found that the water volume for this area
was very high thus only 2 zones were required for the appropriate amount of
coverage.

This was discussed with the homeowner prior to completion and payment was made
to us by the homeowner.

All areas of the yard were being covered with water and approved by the
homeowner.

We are a long standing family owned and operated business in Pinellas County,
our business runs strictly by word of mouth.

This was a good paying, repeat customer, we would have done any additional work
to keep our customer happy.
Unfortunately what he specifically wanted we could not do with the guarantee he
was requesting.
It was simply an unrealistic request.

Included are photos of the yard before and after install

Customer Response • May 27, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Our intent in not to argue or make bad blood. But we have a very different view of the work as we were quoted and expected it to be done. We also disagree on the meeting afterwards and how it "went down." We do however have a written quote priced per zone. We believe this is irrefutable. The price we paid is exactly the same as the quote, so, to say we were OK with paying the same for less does not make sense. We are after all, contractors ourselves.

What we need is a resolution to the watering issue. In the absence of rain, we are watering 7 days a week to keep the dry area along the driveway at mailbox alive. Watching the sprinkler run for a minute or two makes clear that this area does not get enough, or sometimes any water, if there is even a mild wind. (We could get a fine because as I am sure you know, in Pinellas Park the maximum amount we can water is 3 days.)

We would like the following resolutions and hope you will agree. We are willing to pay a reasonable amount for work that was not included in the original quote.

1 to 2 heads changed or moved to put less water on the garden if possible. (we kind of feel this should have been addressed at install. This area was raised up, marked out and its purpose as a garden explained to both you and the sod crew when you were here. We thought that the garden would be a zone all its own, typically a drip line, but understand that may not be achievable now due to the other rotor heads crossing the garden as they water the grass.

A head or two added to water the spot up front near mail box that does not get watered by the existing heads placed far away. (this has always been the dry spot that causes me to have to water every day.)

The front split into two zones so we can water the full sun area more than the partial sun area. I have included a simple diagram so you can see the 2 zones. I think (hope) this will not be two difficult. (We think this reasonable and we will consider the quote completed if you do it)

I would like the valves placed in a valve box for access and maintenance instead of buried in the dirt. (I would think this should have been included but we will not argue if not)

We would like a few heads raised up, they are low due to grass growing. (will pay)

We would like a rain sensor added to the system (will pay)

Going Irrigation have recently completed a sprinkler instillation. They sunk a well and installed a pump a number of years ago and were pleased so we had them back for the sprinkler system. Very pleased with the install and performance. Dave and his helper did a good job.

A company that reminds me of a spoiled child. They know everything, and are quick to hang up the phone when you demonstrate their blatant incompetence. I read a similar description of such negligence on Angie's List!™ To see my mother have to pay twice for the same job; one that Going Irrigation was supposed to do, reminded me much of the horror stories of the early grifters... those who relied on a sweet song and a story, and left customers with nothing more. Irrigation specialists, like many drywall specialists, need minimal education and experience in order to get licensed. Do not trust a name on a truck or web page. Talk to previous clients who have had similar work done in the past six months. You will learn all you need to know! A license and certification is important (as is insurance), but it does not a master craftsman make!
