Review: My home was recently robbed where all my jewelry was stolen. My husband went to this jeweler to replace a "mothers" ring. It was originally a 4 stone ring but the replacement was a 3 stone, so I went there to inquire as to getting the 4th stone added. He said he could do it and if I had any "scrap" gold that he could do it for no extra cost. I went home and was able to get several pieces of broken jewelry that I had (ofcourse the scrap gold wasn't stolen as it wasn't in my jewelry box). He added up the "value" of the gold and said that it would still cost me $150 to add this tiny, no value stone to my new ring. The guy was really high pressure and talked me ito getting an additional gold band to enhance the ring. So while we were figuring out how the new right would look he said that he would hold the whole transaction and not sell my broken jewelry until we had the whole thing figured out. Then he went on vacation. When he came back I went in to check the progress of the new ring, I discovered the following:

1. he sold my broken jewelry and offered me $70 credit - which is no where near the right value and shouldn't have had to be a credit

2. he ordered a "custom" band for $250 (real value is under $100)

3. he forced me to complete the transaction if I wanted my $70 credit for my jewelry

4. I also discovered that he charged my husband nearly triple what that ring should have cost

All this even after he knew that our home had been robbed and that my husband was just trying to do something so nice even though he is currently out of work. My feeling is that we were robbed multiple times by this unethical, bully of a man. At one point when I was trying to reason with him, I also thought that he might hit me. I was really scared in his store.Desired Settlement: I think that he should refund both mine and my husband's hard earned cash as he WAY over charged us and then WAY undervalued my broken jewelry. With the money that we both spent with this store we should have a fairly substantial piece of jewelry, instead we have two very cheap, very basic pieces. It is uncontionable what this man did and what we are left with.

Thanks, [redacted]

Review: The 11th of Feb. my Husband and sons went to view our beloved Grandma who passed on the 8th and was at the Crematorium. Pop, a 93 year old Veteran, came with me to the nearby Jeweler to get Grandma's ring sized for me and to ask questions about some other jewelry. The saleswoman was nice, and said they could size the ring.I asked if I should have it appraised. She simply said, "Yes, it would be good for insurance purposes." Poppy thought it would be nice to know what it was worth now. So,I said,"Sure,I guess so." No mention of cost of the appraisal - verbal or written. I wanted the ring the following Saturday for Grandma's service. They said ok. No problem. Then the man unfortunately who sizes the rings took ill. I did not have the ring in time. A week later, and after 3 visits up there,I finally receive a call, Sat. the 22, that the ring is ready. I cannot get up there, I reside about 30 minutes away, so I asked if a friend could pick it up. Yes. Fine. Then I asked the cost for the sizing.....$42. for the sizing and $42. for the appraisal she then stated. What? If I knew it cost to appraise the ring, I wouldn't have gone there. Another Jeweler told me it could have been estimated for nothing. If I knew, then fine. But I thought it was part of the service, that they were being courteous. I politely asked for a reduction. The kind woman put the man/owner, on the phone. He tried to tell me I should have known. How could I? I had no pre notification of a charge for this service - verbal or in writing? He tried to tell me he normally charges more...but this came up after pleading my case. I believe he took advantage of our situation when we were vulnerable.Pop feels awful about all this. Is there anything I can do? Please let me know what my course of action is at this point? Is it legal to add charges without prior notification? It seems very unfair. I want others to be aware of this.Desired Settlement: I do not believe the appraisal should have a charge. I was not aware, notified, of this. It is not a fair nor pleasant business practice.
