Gold's Gym Aerobics & Fitness Reviews (24)

Review: I was deceived by Tim C[redacted] into believing that my gym membership was in the process of cancellation yet I am continuing to be charged for gym membership and when I inquired about it, he pretended to not remember the discussion of process of cancellation when he advised me to send proof of address change and then he could cancel it for me. Yet he did not notify me if the cancellation wasn't successful, thus allowing my card to continued to be charged.

On the attached on March 11, Tim C[redacted] informed me that he was processing my cancellation. Yet on March 19 (see attached bank statement) I was charged by Gold Membership again after notifying them I wanted to cancel due to relocation and getting confirmation by Tim C[redacted] that he was in the process of cancelling my gym membership.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of what was charged on my card on March 19, 2016 and I do not ever want this company to charge my card again and to eradicate my payment method information from their systems.

Response:

This case is regarding Relocation Cancellation. The member submitted proof of relocation; however it was not sufficient enough by our standards set in the membership agreement. The cancel request was denied. Our billing company has notified the member via email and a phone call to inform her that the request has been denied and why. The Relocation Cancellation policy is clearly stated in each member's membership agreement. We hold each member justly to these standards as they too agreed to it upon signing up. This member has still chosen not to provide us with valid proof of relocation. We will reach out to her again in hopes of resolving this and bettering her experience.

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

I submitted a complaint against Golds

Review: I visited Gold's Gym 7/2/15, to complete the form required to give 30 days notice of termination of membership. I was advised this would be entered into their system, but because it was between billing cycles, I would still have to pay the July fee. This was fine; I agreed with that. I was told I would not be charged for August or later for the membership.

8/10/15 my credit card was charged $89.97 for the August membership fees. My husband called to advise this was in error and was told this is handled by the "billing manager" which had stepped out of the office.

My husband proceeded to call and speak with the manager several times and was promised a call back and refund.

I physically visited Gold's Gym and spoke with the manager in person on 8/20/15 and he claimed he "knew about the situation and would get with the billing manager who had stepped out." He wrote down my phone number and promised to call me with a resolution by the end of the day 8/21/15.

To date, 8/28/15, I have not received a call back, nor has my credit card been credited with the $89.97.Desired Settlement: Refund of payment automatically collected via credit card in the amount of $89.97.

Response:

Mismanaged cancellation for family. Request for refund totaling $89.97 has been sent to billing company, Taft Financial 09/04/2015. Once refund confirmation is received, we will confirm with [redacted] as soon as possible.

Review: I signed up for a Gold's Gym membership in Richmond, Virginia in October 2014. I had gone in, spoke to a consultant by the name of Tim M[redacted] to see about rates and joining. I explicitly expressed my concern with getting a contract simply because I wasn't sure that I was 2-years worth of committed. He assured me there was nothing to be worried about. If I wanted to cancel my membership, it was only a $50 fee.

I've been trying to get out of my contract using this $50 fee since November. I was told by someone by the name of "Gloria" that I could only quit for medical or relocation. On November 25, 2015 she said she needed a couple of minutes to speak to Tim then she'd email me back. That was the last time I ever heard from her.

I reached back out six days later. No response.

I received an automated message from her email address on December 10, 2015 again saying I owed money but no mention of my cancellation or her alleged conversation with Tim. I replied reminding her that she was supposed to talk to Tim and get back with me a few minutes later (weeks prior). Again, no response.

I reached out for the last time on December 30, 2015.

Prior to this I had had repeated billing issues and a lack of communication from Tim regarding my account status and attempts to cancel it. The instant I started asking about cancellation, the problems got worse.

I am attaching PDF versions of my email correspondence with the Gold's Gym located at 8904 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23294.

I am extremely upset that they got me to sign a contract on false pretense, refused to maintain communication when I wanted to exercise the ability to cancel my membership and most recently, sent my account to a debt collector. I received the letter yesterday. Please make this right.Desired Settlement: Complete cancellation of account, zeroing of balance, recall from collection agency and negation of any negative remark on my credit report.

Response:

This case concerns a member, requesting to cancel her membership. The member agreed to the membership fees, gym policies, and term dates (see attached membership agreement). Our membership agreement states, specifically our cancellation policies and procedures. This member was informed of our cancellation policies and procedures. This member claims she has been misled but that does not change the fact that there is written documentation, that both parties, Gold's Gym Westend and this member, agreed upon the membership agreement terms. Tim M[redacted] - General Manager, personally review the membership agreement with all of the new members I assist in joining the gym. I do this consistently and fluently. The price to pay for falsely misleading or forging an agreement on another person's behalf is not ethical, nor worth it to me. Just because this member wants to send multiple emails, claiming we misled her; it does not change the fact that there is written documentation stating our policies and guidelines which were agreed to by both parties. The member is responsible for agreeing to these terms, bottom line.

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Tim M[redacted] fails to acknowledge that he deliberately misled me. The only reason I signed a contract was because he explicitly said cancellation was a simple $50 fee.

Review: I lived in Virginia in March, April, May, and June and belonged to the Golds Gym west End. I moved back to Michigan the end of June and in July I cancelled the membership because I was out of state. They said they would. In August the charged me again, I called and they gave me the main office number I called there and spoke to [redacted] and she had me email my license with the Michigan address. I did that she said it was taking care of. In September I was billed again I called my credit card and disputed the charge and the refunded that month. I called and sent [redacted] another email. Once again she assured me it was taken care of and now here I am getting charged again for October. Please Help[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like my money back and have them stop charging me.
