Complaint
This Gold's gym on Laburnum ave is the worst gym I have been to.. Member's of the gym ignore the rules of the gym. Cursing, sitting on equipment on their cell phones. slamming weights on the floor. I have complain several time to management to no avail. I cancel my membership. I am done with Gold's Gym

Absolute crooks. I cancelled my membership mid June. My account was then charged for both July and August. I had my bank stop payment. I then get notices from their billing company. I call the gym and the manager tells me I owe another $45 to cancel. I explained to him I was already billed for 2 months ($54) after I initially cancelled. He proceeded to say I had to pay another $45. Hidden fees is there game. Better to stay away.

Review: Signed on for gold membership of $29.99 on Dec 31, 2013 because this membership would allow use of a pool. According to the [redacted] as of May 2014 a pool will not be installed at this facility. My decision to join with this level of membership was based on their advertisement in Dec 2013 that a pool would be built. Now that a pool is not being built I want to change my membership level to $9.99 but Gold's want to charge me a $58 dollar fee to break the contract. I had membership at the Mechanicsville Golds gym but changed to this location because it was closer to my home. I have expressed my concern on several occasions and have not been able to resolve this issue.Desired Settlement: Change my membership without being penalized/charged the $58 fee.

I spoke with [redacted] on 6/6/14 @ approximately 3:00. I informed [redacted] that we were going to down grade his membership from a Gold ([redacted]) to an Express ([redacted]). With no $** cancellation fee as a courtesy.

Thanks!

Review: I entered a membership at Gold's Gym on a month to month no contract plan for $9.99/month starting in January 2014. My account was drafted the monthly fee on 1/3/14. I decided to upgrade my membership to the 24 month contract plan for $29.99 month to take effect starting in February. I told the agent that I was already a member and I was just upgrading to the contract plan. I stated January's due are paid. She indicated I would just have to pay $1 to upgrade at that time and my new upgraded membership would start in February. This was done to avoid having to make the prorated payment. I started getting calls from Gold's Gym's billing company ABC Financial. When I returned the call the rep I spoke with asked me for an updated credit card. At the time my card was compromised in the Target situation and the bank sent me a new card. This is the reason why my card was now invalid. ABC Financial was actually calling me about January's payment. Gold's was attempting to draft another January payment for $29.99. I told the rep that my billing was paid for January and I should not be charged the $29.99 until February. She did see the January payment and told me NOT to give her the card information at this time. She indicated if I did then Golds was going to charge my account an additional 29.99 for January. She told me she couldn't fix it directly and I would have to go into the center to have this done. I do admit I was delayed in going to the center due to personal reasons. However, when I finally was able to make it in. To date I have never used the gym due to those same personal reasons. I spoke with the General Manager Justin who after explaining everything he credited my account to effectively remove the January payment and late fees bring my past due balance down to I aprx. $165.00. I gave him my card to process it and it would not go thru and he proceeded to tell me my account has been turned over to 1st Credit Services. I gave them a call and they are telling me I have to pay the entire balance of my contract in full and I can no longer utilize the gym. My contract has been cancelled. My dispute is this. Had my account been set it the right way in the beginning this double drafting of the January would have been an issue. If the rep at ABC Financial would have taken my card information at the time of my call then this situation would not be an issue. I do accept my blame in this situation as well. I delayed coming into the gym to get the account corrected. I will say that I did make several phone calls to the gym to get this taken care of however when I made these calls the manager was not in. From what I have been told is my membership is cancelled I am still required to pay out the balance in full of the 24 month contract. However I can no longer use the gym. This is my complaint. I attempted to reached out or get the name of a corporate representative to have this situation corrected and because this facility is a franchise I was told basically nothing can be done. This is certainly bad business. It looks like my account was turned over to collections after 90 days delinquency. However being that my upgrade to the contract plan was to be effective starting February 1, 2014 my payment would not be in a 90 day delq. status and not in collections. What's ironic in all this Gold never sent me any emails or request to renew my month to month contract when the payment did not process. I only received calls concerning the contracted amount. I'm assuming because the January month to month plan was paid accordingly and the upgraded membership plan was also changed in January.Desired Settlement: I would like to pay my past due balances which is the conclusion that [redacted] the [redacted] agreed too when he attempted to process the payment of $165.00 I would like my membership reactivated showing my contract date to start February and not January and be allowed to finish out the remainder of my 24 month contract on a month to month payment basis. I do not understand how you can cancel my membership and require me to pay the entire contract balance in full without reinstating my account. I would also like Gold's Gym to adjust my account correctly showing I do not owe for the January payment. My 24 month contract should not have started until 2/1/14. I truly believe my transfer to the 24 month contract plan was set up incorrectly due the young adult processing my upgrade not setting it up correctly with the gym just being open for 3 days with all the traffic with members coming up to the front counter, along with my fault in not noticing the contract also had the January date prior to signing it. The young lady and I who processed the upgrade did speak about my contract starting in February verbally however the paperwork was set up incorrectly. I am requesting Gold 's Gym to pull my account back from 1st Credit Services so that I can pay my past due balances and to allow me to began using the membership I am required to pay for. It is unacceptable for a business to tell a consumer that nothing can be done when a rep from the said business verbally agreed to one thing and set up the paperwork with the wrong dates.

I wanted to touch base with you in regards to [redacted] and her situation. I spoke with[redacted] and explained the situation in regards to her account. The reason for her outstanding balance is that she was sent to collections because her card was unable to be charged for an extended period of time.

Response:

Gold’s Gym recognizes the importance and necessity of equipment being operational and well maintained. There are occasions when exercise equipment and areas of the facility become in need of cleaning and repair. We are grateful when members are gracious enough to report any problems to our staff. Once issues are reported, we swiftly contact and schedule repair technicians to address equipment issues. Regretfully, there are times where certain repairs take extended periods of time due to the availability and shipping times of various parts. Management invites membership, through an open-door policy, to discuss and report on the progress of any equipment, service or facility issues.
