Gold's Gym Vancouver Reviews (%countItem)

On September 17th 2019, I had gone into to Golds Gym for an appointment I had scheduled, to learn about their training programs. I talked to a manger, he told me the prices of two programs that they had offered at the gym. I took the second cheaper program which was 264 dollars once a week for two weeks I had asked for two sessions. I then asked if I decide I don't want to continue with the sessions I could drop it. the manger said " of course no problem" he kept saying no problem and was reassuring me through out the whole process, but just to make sure I had asked him this question twice. When signing the program he did not once show me any of the writing and didn't print it out to give to me afterwards. I then told him not to take the money out of my account until I okay it and he said no problem, and then he did it anyway and overdrew my account, my bank had called me and told me my account had been overdrawn. When speaking with the manger about this program I understood our verbal agreement was clear to both of us. I then decided this didn't work for me at this time and called the gym and spoke once again with the manger and told him I wasn't able to do the training he said "no problem but you're still going to have to pay for the training" I then asked "even if I never started it?" he said "yes because you signed up for the program". I then asked to speak with the GM, I didn't feel as though I was talking to a GM at all, I felt like I was talking to one of his buddy's, I was unsatisfied with his rude tone of voice and abrupt tone. So I asked him for his name he replied Daniel, I asked for his full name and once again with his rude and now raised voice said DANIEL! I then realized it was a one way conversation and their only options were to agree with their option, I felt only cornered and bullied into everything they said. Because I am new to this whole process I believed what they said. Unfortunately what they said was not what they did

Hello and thank you for forwarding this on to us. We have reviewed the members concern. The member did sign up for personal training as she states and she was told that she can cancel the personal training with a 30 days notice. The member signed an agreement and the information is clearly outlined on the agreement. When the member called in, she was transferred to the General Manager (she references Daniel but his name is Nathan). Nathan listed to the members concern that she understood that she had a different view of the conversation when she was signing up for personal training and referenced she had a verbal agreement similar to her statement about a verbal agreement below. To ensure there is no mix up, all personal training and membership are all done on agreement where all details are clearly outlined and the member has to sign acknowledging. Our GM offered to provide another copy to the member but she declined wanting it. After speaking with our GM, the member then set up some personal training appointments for the training she paid for but did not show up for the appointments. The agreement states that their is notice to cancel and that there is not refunds. We will honor the services that the member signed up for but we will not be refunding the amounts as requested. Please let us know if you need another copy of the agreement. In health.

I had a membership with golds gym from July 2017 until December 2018. For the first year, I had a yearly contract membership, and after it was expired they turned into a month-to-month membership and charged me $65 for first and last month, I did not like that they did not first contact me to let me know that they would be doing that but that is ok. In November 2018, I lost my credit card and cancelled it, which ultimately if I did not put a new card on file it should cancel my month-to-month membership which I had already paid for anyways. Instead, they somehow contacted my credit card company and found my new card’s information and charged me $70 for not having a card on file instead of automatically cancelling my membership to a gym I had not been attending anymore they somehow found my new card information that I had not given to them and charged me for a membership that had already been paid for. I tried to dispute said $70, and they told me they would refund some of it and make it $40 instead. Which I wasn’t happy with, but I’m not a confrontational person, so I took it. They needed up never refunding me anything, so I just gave up. Now they have been contacting me in every way they can to have me pay $40 ON TOP of the $70 I already paid. This is a gym membership that I paid for every single month $40 a month and cancelled the membership, and they have charged $70 dollars for cancelling, which is abnormally high for such product and now they are trying to charge me $40 more for absolutely no reason. I don’t think that them doing everything they could to find my credit card information that I did not disclose with them is legal, and I don’t think them charging me this much money is legal either. I have seen many reviews of this company overcharging their customers over and over again, and it’s just not right to do that. It seems nearly impossible to cancel a membership with them and I just want them to stop stealing from customers.

Thank you for sending this our way. We have communicated with the member via email on this issue. The member also wrote a similar review in *** which we have responded to as well. Bellow are the details of the response. We are happy to provide the member any additional information needed.

To the member:
You are correct in that you are on a month to month membership. We received your notice of cancellation on 12/30/18. You are required to provide 30 days notices and you are still required to pay any dues that occur in that 30 day period. In this case it is your last month of dues since you were cancelling. We shared all of this with you in email on Jan 3rd. At that time you informed us that you didn’t think you were going to be charged because your credit card had expired. As we shared, you are still responsible for the amount even if your credit card expired. The only amount you have outstanding is the last month of dues you owe at the point you provided your 30 day cancellation notice. Any and all other charges are for your monthly amounts for each month and we are happy to provide you with the itemized statement reflecting such. Your account cannot officially cancel until you pay your last months of dues. You may email us at ***@goldsgym1965.com and we are happy to provide you any further documentation or information you may need. You are welcome to come to the club and we can walk you through your entire statement and agreement as well.

I bought full year membership and payed in full on September 30 of 2016
9 months later I noticed a charge of $4.01 out of my account without my authorization
I called the gym right away and spoke with they're manager about the situation
He said he will try to wave the fee and give me one month free to an addition to my 1 year membership
A week later I called back to see about the process. Manager told me that they "forgot" to charge me initially some fees. They will not refined me my money and the free month I will not get because it is going toward my fees that they just remembered about. Then I asked about the refund that they charged without my authorization and was told he Cannot do it. I feel was scammed. I should have been told about all the fees and not have company make charges left and right with notifying me and without my authorization. Wondering how many people they do that who won't check their credit cards.

Thank you for the email. We have processed a $4.01 refund per this members request. We have also credited one month’s dues (7/30/2017). Member originally came in on 9/30/2017 to join and didn’t have the funds to pay the amount in full. So he joined under month to month agreement. Member came back on 10/04/2017 and paid $205.84 for upcoming dues to attempt to pay the balance off in full. Unfortunately a small balance of $4.01 was left outstanding and member was billed. Again, we refunded it and offered him one month free on his membership.
