Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital Reviews (3)

Review: I took my son to the Goleta Valley Cottage on 4/18/13 for a minor skin rash. I received a bill that following June. The bill describes the visit as "Emergency Services". I called their business office at ###-###-####, I spoke with a young man. I asked him to explain the bill to me, he said we were charged for a "level 2" service. I asked him to explain what "level 2" means, he could not. He said their internal audit deptartment would review the account and he would call me back. Several weeks passed and no one called me back so I called them back. I spoke with the same young man who said the visit was still a level 2. I asked to speak with his manager, he put me through to Maria Flores' voicemail and I left a message. I never heard back from her, so I wrote them a letter date July 16, 2013 expressing my concerns. I still never heard back. I called them sometime in August and spoke with Maria. She told me she would mail me a detailed letter explaining the services. I did not ever receive such a letter however, I did receive a collection notice from Computer Collections Inc dated 8/28/13. I called Maria and left her a voicemail last week, she returned my call and left me a message and I called her back on 9/6/13 and today and left 2 messages. My complaint is that "level 2" or "emergency service" is not a detailed description of services rendered. My son had a simple skin rash and I think Cottage Hospital needs to explain how a charge of $315 is appropriate for less than 4 minutes of face to face time with a doctor. It should also be noted that I received a seperate bill for the physician for roughly $300.Desired Settlement: I would like Cottage Hospital to review my bill and the services rendered and either charge me for a "level 1" service or provide an explanation as to what a "level 2" visit is and why our visit warranted a "level 2" and not a "level 1".

Review: I went in for surgery on January 17, 2014 for a ruptured bicep. I was given a hospital bill for $13,100.75, insurance adjusted/payment of $11,029.68 covered by insurance The breakdown is pharmacy $53, operating room $5422, medical surgical supplies, $6346, recovery room $700, and anesthesia $580.75. Following the surgery I was given a bill of $2000 patient responsibility, of which I paid 1200, over installments. I advise the company that I would be settling the lien for $1200 "full and final" there was no objection from cottage Hospital. After eight months they have sent me one notice claiming I owe them $872.07; Otherwise, they are sending me to collections. I telephone representative on October 14, 2015, and was advised I no longer have the option to make payment plan. Either pay the full amount immediately, or go to collection.; Otherwise, they are sending me to collections. I telephone representative on October 14, 2015, and was advised I no longer have the option to make payment plan. Either pay the full amount immediately, or go to collection. I am raising the following issues: unfair business practice, overcharging, excessive treatment, charges in excess of the official medical fee schedule, failure to honor substantial payment of the lien ($1200)Desired Settlement: cottage hospital should write off the difference.I cannot afford $870 out-of-pocket. I was not even given a chance after the notice was given prior to going to collection. They said we will send you one more notice advising you going to collection then you're going to collection. No more opportunity to make payments, which means cottage hospital is only in the business of making money 1) request cottage provide item. of services ,Proof of their fee schedule. Compare to charges I'm given

Review: My child, a student of UCSB, had an eye injury in July, 2013 and was taken to the emergency center of Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital. Due to the urgent nature of the incidence, my child did not bring her insurance card but did leave her contact information with the hospital and returned a couple of days later when she felt more comfortable driving, and furnished her insurance card, paid the required co-payment, and was told everything was settled. Surprisingly in January, 2015 we received a letter from a collection agency stating that the medical bill had not been paid and both the principal plus interest charges were delinquent and required to be settled. It turned out that the hospital never claimed the insurance for services provided, never contacted my child, and arbitrarily turned the case over to collection. The insurance company would not honor any claim thats over one year from date of service, and the hospital denied any responsibility in failing to submit the insurance claim. On top of her busy school works, my child is now facing a collection agency thats asking her to pay a bill she should not have been subjected to, an insurance company thats not paying an overdue claim, and an irresponsible billing department of Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital that audaciously eluded any responsibility. Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, be a responsible community member and take on your responsibility in resolving this issue.Desired Settlement: Resolve any issue and file claim with the insurance company accordingly to get reimbursed; clear the case with the collection agency, including and interest charge, and ensure my child's credit rating is not affected.
