I called and had an in home appointment with Evelyng (one of the designers) to redo the front room in our home. I explained how I wanted to have 'forever? furniture and get rid of many of our cheap or rundown items. I also expressed I did not know how much my budget was, I wanted to know how much it would take to make our house a home. I stated if the price was higher than I could immediately pay we would purchase items over the course of a few months instead of all at once. We spent time going through inspiration photos and the needs of the room. We determined that we would look for 2 desks, a file cabinet, bookcase and a rug. We sat down and looked through products from their specific vendors. Golson Designs makes their profits by buying furniture/décor directly from the vendor but charges the clients the retail price.
We sat at their laptop and looked at furniture, so my only exposure to the furniture was the few photos I was shown.
Again, we did not go over a budget, we simply looked for items we liked. After selecting the pieces I was then told the total of $1352.55. We signed the sales contract and the furniture was delivered May 14th 2020. When the furniture came in, I noticed the furniture was cheap quality. The 'finish? on the furniture is a sticker like product; I suspect the interior of the pieces are cardboard based on the weight and sheer flimsiness of the items.
Although Golson Designs has a no return policy I feel they failed by promising satisfaction and quality which is repeatedly stated on their website and business cards. As the customer I was only getting to see photos on their laptop, I was not given an opportunity to view the material it was made of, also because they use websites direct from their vendor there were no reviews. I had to base my purchase on a photo and put good faith that Golson Designs was ensuring the pieces were quality items.
When the furniture came, I believe Evelyng could tell I was not happy, she talked about how they have no idea the quality or condition of the furniture until it is shipped to them for assembly and delivery. This is information that was not provided to me when I signed the sales contract. Had I known the high rick of uncertainty and been given the state of quality I would not have purchased the items from them.
I have emailed and called them about having the furniture picked up for return and getting a refund back. They told me it is up to the vendor who they bought the furniture from. If the vendor will not take a return I am left with the furniture and they keep my money. They later offered half of my money back and we can keep the furniture, however I have stated to them I do not want to keep the furniture and want a full refund. They felt by only returning half of our purchase price we could try to recoup the rest of our money by trying to sell the furniture ourselves either by *** market place or craigslist.
They put their customers in tough situations by providing a product and no means to return the item when it is not as promised.
Customers who take the extra initiative to hire a third party to come into their home to design, are not the kind of customers who want cheap or poor quality items. I stress that I bought these items in good faith, because I assumed that the designer would be ensuring that I purchased items that would last, which is something I stated on our initial call and at our appointment. After several of our phone conversations after the delivery of the furniture I was repeatedly told that we bought that furniture because I was on a tight budget, the budget was never set in stone, I even made a statements that if it would take $10,000 I would be willing to purchase the items over a course of a few months.
All I want is my money back and for them to come and collect the furniture. If they have to fight, and deal with the vendor to return the items that is for them to deal with and not me. I hired them to complete a room design with long lasting furniture and a feeling of home. They failed to do so as well as failed to inform me of the risk of the unknown that comes with buying furniture through them.
Lastly, they miss led their customers with false advertisement. They are using photos that I reversed search and are not photos of their own on their website 'gallery? page. They have a few photos that I do believe are rooms their have done, but other photos are stock photos that I found are the product photos used to sell furniture. Because they have the photos all placed together I was originally led to believe the photos were theirs and of rooms they had done themselves. I first noticed the issue when I found a photo of a child's room where the bed had been converted from a crib, toddler and then to a full size bed. I found it odd that they would take all that time and change out bedding just for a photo. When I reversed search the image, it was the photo created for selling the furniture on multiple site and not a photo of their own design. I have found several others that are photos that are not their own, but being placed in the gallery leading customers to think it is work they have done. Along with the images that are portrayed as their own, several other photos on their gallery/portfolio are from Decoration Den Interior's home page, Golson's specific page host photos that are not their designs and images from other sources, this is false advertisement and misleading the customer.
