"I recently had a bad encounter with Dave [redacted], the owner &/or manager of Gooch's Hobbies in Winnipeg. Before this I had known him for years and had been treated properly by him and his staff. When my regular hobby shop, which was closer to me, closed down, I had to find one to replace it and Gooch's was the next closest.
Last year I took a diecast model to him to sell on consignment. It sold, he phoned me and I came over and got my money. Then later I brought him 5 plastic models: 4 kits and a RTR locomotive. In May this year I spent over $300 on supplies but my models still hadn't sold. When I checked back in Oct. I gave him complete descriptions of all 5 models, and he said he could only find two of them and had no record of any of them. So I told him that since: 1. he hadn't made a list of them, 2. he hadn't given me a receipt for them and 3. I had entrusted them to his care, he owed me a fair and reasonable price for the 3 that were missing. Since all had sold for over $20 each when new, I asked him for $10 each less his commission of $6. He then told me that since his father, [redacted], handled the expenses, he would have to ask him for permission. When I called him back (he never would call me back) he again told me that he didn't have proof of their existence so he wouldn't pay me for them.
So I told him that I was very honest, had done nothing wrong, and since he had forgotten to record them he was responsible for reimbursing me. He asked if I would take $20 cash for them and I agreed if he would agree to mailing them to save me a long drive over. He refused but said he would drop them off after work one day. When the day finally came nearly 2 weeks later, my door bell didn't work and I couldn't hear him knocking so he left, even though my neighbor offered to give them to me. He refused because he wanted my signature.
So last week I drove over there and picked up the 2 remaining models and the $20. When I asked him what he thought I had done to deserve the shoddy treatment he had given me, he just said " I'm sorry. What happened happened." So I told him I would try to make sure that every modeler in Wpg. would know how he treated me."
