Good Ol' Boys Tree Service Reviews (11)

We have used the Good Ol' Boys Tree Service on several occasions. The work performed has been timely, reasonable, professional and most of all they go above and beyond to ensure they leave the property in pristine condition.

Eric was a pleasure to work with on a yard project of cutting down trees in the back of our property. He was reliable, friendly and patient. The men working with him worked well and did a very good job. We are very, very happy and satisfied with the work they did for us. Their price was also very reasonable. We would highly recommend this company!

My experience with Eric and his company has been the opposite of the previous review concerning the vines and the damage to a Norway Spruce. I hired Eric's company because of the good work that he'd done for a neighbor. Also, after getting several quotes, his was very reasonable. He also gave me certain assurances about not damaging my deck and stone patio, which the other companies would not do. He also said that in case of an accident that he'd step up and fix the damage to the deck and stone patio.
I was very happy with how efficient and quickly they completed the work of taking down 9 trees and trimming a bunch of overhanging branches along a property line. Moreover, I asked them to remove a big playscape and, due to a misunderstanding, he did more than he should have. When I told him that I wasn't happy with the results, he made it right despite being a big inconvenience for him and incurring extra labor. No need to get into the specifics here; suffice it to say that he thought he was doing me a favor by doing extra work, but I didn't ask him to do what he did and he had to do two separate things to fix it all at his own expense. I think that he felt bad that I wasn't happy and wanted to make it right. We then had a second miscommunication. He left behind significantly less wood than I wanted. After some discussion about the how's and the why's he agreed to bring back a big load of wood, which he did the following day. I didn't look at the wood pile right away; I saw it from a distance and so I paid him. Four weeks after making full payment, I went to stack the un-split wood that he left me (thinking that it needed to be seasoned) and I wasn't happy with what I saw. It wasn't from the nice oaks and maples that he had cut from my yard. I also thought some of it was pine. I called him angrily to complain. Eric was very cordial in his responses throughout the conversation. He explained that since he was working nearby the day that I called him about not leaving me enough wood, that he thought it was reasonable to drop off part of a dead elm that he had just cut that day; he remembered also that I did not want huge or knotty pieces. He also was firm and confident that what I thought were pieces of pine were actually healthy (not dead) elm pieces. In the end, he agreed to return, take away all the wood that I didn't like and bring back wood that I did want. Not only was he very cooperative during this conversation, but, the wood that he dropped off later that same day was already split (unlike my wood that he hauled away or the elm that he delivered), saving me a ton of hard work. My advice? Hire Eric instead of hiring anyone else. Period. He cares deeply about making his customers happy. I think that it says a lot about the integrity of a business owner that he accommodates me in this way FOUR WEEKS AFTER he completed the job and after I made full payment.

In my opinion, careless and uncaring approach when they cleaned up a yard and ground several stumps. The work was done on August 17 and 18, 2015 and I paid $2,600. Some of the work was good but then some poor decisions were made. The FIRST ISSUE was when they were pulling vines off a 50 foot high Colorado Spruce, they cut off two very large (probably 6 foot wide or more) branches in order to get the vines off. This left gaping holes on the sides of the tree. I asked why ever did they do such a thing and they said they did it to get the vines off. I said, but the idea of getting the vines off was to save the tree, not make the tree look even worse. Eric had no comment. I told him to just cut the tree down - it looked that bad. The vines would have just wilted if they cut them at the base. Evidently they had no inclination to use a ladder so they could avoid the mutilation of the tree. I could have done a better job had I done it myself. The SECOND ISSUE was the stump grinding. The person who did the work did a fine job on the stumps, but I believe he totally destroyed one side of an 8-foot Norway Spruce by allowing the exhaust pipe from the grinding machine to cook the branches in a three foot diameter circular pattern. I say this because within 2 days of the stump grinding, all the needles and branches of this tightly compact tree were brown in a three-foot well-defined circular area and soon would be falling off (which they did.) . It is well known that evergreens do not replace branches and so this tree will always have a hole on the side where all the branches were presumably cooked by the exhaust. When I called the owner of the business, Eric, he said he did not want to come and see the damage. When I called again, he said the worker who did the stump grinding said he did not come anywhere near the tree. I responded by inviting him, once again, to see the damage so he could see that there was a stump within inches of the tree and the chips from the stump were directly below the 3' burnt area on the tree. Once again he declined. He asked me what I wanted him to do. I said replace the tree. The tree was part of a line of 14 trees that I had purchased as a group so as to have uniformity of height, for a privacy screen. I also had chosen Norway Spruce because of the many deer who ate shrubs in my yard - the Norway Spruce was seldom damaged by deer. I told him it was a Norway Spruce of the 7 to 8 foot high category. He seemed to agree to get me another one and I suggested his worker be docked for it because all he had to do was turn the machine around so the exhaust pipe of the machine blew away from the tree instead of toward it. ( The exhaust pipe on the machine ends up in the air at the same height as the center of the circle of tree damage. Also, the machine was a walk-behind type and could have easily been turned around). This phone call was on August 20, 2015. I waited a few MONTHS and then called to ask where the tree was. He once again agreed to replace it. On November 20, 2015 I came home to find a 5 foot tall Fraser Fir on the ground leaning against my trailer with three short (6 to 8 inches) bare roots. Two broken branches. No dirt ball. No note. I thought a friend of mine who does excavation may have dug a tree up during a job and left it for me to save. But as fate would have it, as I was driving to my local nursery store to get some dirt and mulch to plant the poor tree, I passed by a truck with a flat tire and saw the "Good Ol' Boys" on the back of the T-shirt of the man taking the wheel off the truck. I realized that the tree may very well have been dropped off by them on the way to deliver their load of firewood that was in the back of the truck. I stopped to ask them. It was Eric, the owner, and the man who did the stump grinding! Eric said they left the tree. I said it did not match my other trees, which were Norway Spruce and it was nowhere near the size of the other ones. His response was that "it will grow" and he chuckled and looked at the stump grinding man. I said the damaged tree was part of a privacy screen and all the trees were selected as the same species, for deer resistance, and for the same height. Then he started talking in circles, saying I should have gotten (Thuja's) instead. Then he said his worker said he didn't do it. The worker then walked over toward me and said he did not do it, why would he damage a tree on purpose. I invited Eric once again to come see the tree and the location of the stump right below the burnt area. He again declined. I said I agreed that the worker (I don't know his name) may not have done it on purpose and suggested that he was probably just too lazy to turn his machine around. I was not upset or yelling, just making a half-hearted attempt to reason with them. I say half-hearted because I could see them snickering and looking at each other and knew the situation was hopeless. Eric seemed to take my explanation of what likely happened as an opportunity to end the conversation and say he was not going to help me further with the problem. I was not upset because I was actually surprised they even made the attempt to drop off that scraggly Fraser Fir tree (that I am sure the deer will make quick work of, as it is listed as "often damaged" by deer). I say this because this review is not done in anger, but to warn others as to what they might expect from Eric and his Good Ol' Boys. As I said, some of the work was fine, it was apparent they were doing as quick a job as they could, so they failed to consider some simple options, such as using a ladder in order to get a better result, or not turning their grinding machine in a safer direction. Their failure to acknowledge what was (I believe) obviously their fault, their refusal to even come to look at the tree, the poor and probably opportunistic "replacement" of the tree, and the snickering I had to endure while attempting to talk with them made me want to advise others as to how they did business, at least with me.

Our experience with Good Ol' Boys Tree Service was exceptional! They were punctual, courteous, professional and completed the job above and beyond our satisfaction. Eric's knowledge of tree removal was stellar! I will definitely recommend them to family and friends!

Hi - I had to look up Good Ol' Boys phone number / email because I want to contact Eric to do some MORE work at my property. Over the past 5 years Eric and his crew have done significant and excellent tree pruning for me and I have nothing but HIGH MARKS for his honesty and workmanship! Two of my neighbors also saw what he can do and how well he does it, and THEY had him do work for them -- all without issue and resulting in the same experience -- excellent!
So I am shocked by the one and only negative review I just read. We all know that folks tend to write down complaints, but seldom take the time to write down words of praise. That's why I took the time. And I am having him back to take a tree down that recently had the roots destroyed due to the installation of our new sewer system. I have every confidence in Eric and his crew and highly recommend them for any tree work you need done.

I called Eric late morning, early afternoon. He came by two hours later that same day. I was requesting that branches were to be removed from the power and cable wire. The price he gave was very reasonable. The job was done in a hour. I told him use his judgement on what should be removed but leaving privacy. He did a wonderful job.Didn't go crazy which is what I wanted. Will def be in touch when more tree work is needed. No issues at all!!
