Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
I am rejecting *** ***'s response because most of what his letter says, is untrue quite frankly When the vehicle was taken in, the insurance and registration were indeed with me at the time, mostly because I was more concerned with the engine light than the inspection When the mechanic called, I let him know that the insurance and registration could be taken to him whenever he needed Furthermore, if they never intended to do the inspection, then why did he check my breaks, have me get new windshield wipers, and a new break light? He told me that I needed them for inspection, which is the only reason I let him charge me for new parts in the first place He also tried to sell me new breaks, which I denied Secondly, as stated before, I had already received a diagnostic, and given the mechanic the codes Also, to respond to *** ***'s statement of the many OBD codes, he is correct There were several codes pulled by the OBD, but as any good mechanic knows-THERE IS A HARD-CODE The hard code refers to problems that are more permanent and needs to be fixed immediately whereas the soft code are the problems which are temporary in natureThe latter can be fixed by resetting the fault code using the battery terminal disconnection or scannerIn my first complaint letter, I stated that the mechanic had "manually" reset the engine light-which means he only attempted to fix the "soft-codes" and not the ACTUAL problem. When a hard code is confirmed, you have to associate the code to what the engine is actually doing like if you have a lean gas mixture oxygen sensor code for example: is the engine running rough, is there hesitation when accelerating, is there poor gas consumption Had they actually tried to diagnose the problem, it would have been readily and properly diagnosedMoreover, when I went to pick up the car, the engine light was still on This means they did not even check to see if they had fixed the issue, further proving they knew there was a larger problem they were not qualified to fix Further evidence that this was clearly a botched patch jthat GM had released a very well-known bulletin about 07' GM cars and their timing-chains *** *** knew they were not equipped to handle the problem When the timing chain is changed, the oil is also changed This again, points to the fact that they simply wanted to charge me for something and get me out the doorSo the oil change that they claimed would fix my car, was pointless, because the oil was drained and changed by the people who actually did end up fixing my car Had I agreed to have my breaks changed as well, I would be stuck with a $bill for absolutely NO REASON
So again, if they KNEW they weren't going to do the inspection, why try to charge me to fix my breaks? They knew they could not fix the problem, so they found something else to charge me with
Response to *** ***'s points/ and Facts:
-*** *** was not qualified to fix the problem and failed to inform me until AFTER charging me-GM released a WELL-KNOWN bulletin about 07' cars, the *** hard cord, and timing chains-I was never consulted about an ADDITIONAL diagnostic being run-the mechanic was already given the codes, along with the HARD CODE-The mechanic had me pay for things required for an inspection-that they never planned on doing-I talked to the owner a number of times and they never tried to work anything out with me-The proper paperwork for the inspection was offered-The mechanic "Steve"-who the manager told me is NOT even a mechanic, did talk to my father-who has been a PROFESSIONAL mechanic for over years My father is the one who told me in the first place that the oil change was completely unnecessary, to look into the issue, and I should report the garage to the Revdex.com-The garage's entire story has holes and many excuses When I spoke with the manager, Sam, he told me that Steve was not an actual mechanic and that I had a "good point" about the hard code It was very clearly a great example of a dishonest garage attempting to take advantage of a woman
-There is VERY little in *** ***'s letter that is true-The oil change I was charged for would have been done when fixing the timing chain-The oil being low does not require an oil chanrequires you ADD oil Again, further proof this was not a legitimate service performed
-When my MECHANIC father spoke to Steve-Steve immediately stated he was not qualified to fix the issue! Does that not say that he KNEW the problem? How do you know you aren't qualified to fix something if you don't know what it is?!
Please see reason It is a very cut and dry case here I can understand the manager trying to protect his mechanics or services, but it is so very clear that the services provided were not professionalThere was a hard code, an oil change would have been done with the timing chain fix, GM covers the timing chain issue-meaning it would have been taken to a dealer and *** *** would have profited nothingLastly, the inspection issue I was charged for parts FOR AN INSPECTION They also TRIED to charge me for breaks, but they knew they were not going to do the inspection because of the engine light All I want if a refund for services I did NOT need and that were falsely and deceptively recommended to me *** *** says they need to pay their mechanics for their time However, had I been informed correctly and professionally, they would have done no work at all They found something to charge me for and tried to push me out the door No paperwork was denied or expired It is an unprofessional mess and I am embarrassed for the garage and its employees Customers deserve better, and *** *** needs to take responsibility for their actions
Regards,
*** ***

HiI am writing back in reference to a *** *** that was in our shop on 2-19-to have a check engine light diagnosis and State and Emission inspections completed as wellWe could not perform the inspections that day due to the registration and insurance were both expired for the
vehicleSo my service advisor Steve called and talked to *** about the check engine light and to see if she would like diagnosisSteve says that she did and which I believe she did or we would have been done with the vehicle since we could not run the emission test or perform state inspection with out current registration or insurance otherwise we would have been done with the vehicle if she did not want the light looked atMy technician scanned the vehicle and came up with several codes ***/***/***/***We started with the lowest code in the vehicle which is how you are suppose to check the lightStep for code *** which I have also enclosed a copy of from a source called *** says to confirm the oil in fullWhen my technician checked the engine oil level he found it was approx quarts low on oilThere are also several confirmed fixes in this forum for this exact same code in this exact same year and make of vehicle that suggest to change the oil on the vehicle and install a new oil filter that you will find attached to this invoiceSo Steve called and talked to *** explained the situation to her and suggested to change the oil and clear the light and have her drive the vehicle approx 100-miles so the monitors could reset and so we could then run the retestOne of ***’s complaints was that we told her to do this even though her car is out of inspectionPA state gives you a month window to have your car inspectedThis is not our fault that the *** was out of inspection and unfortunately the only way to get the monitors to reset is to drive the vehicle*** agreed to change the oil on the vehicle due to it being low and the possibility of it fixing the engine light which it apparently did not unfortunatelyWe also performed a courtesy look over on the vehicle hike we would have been inspecting it and found the wipers to be torn and the right rear brake light outSo Steve explained to *** that the wipers and the right rear brake light would have to eventually be fixed no matter what for the state inspection even though we could not perform it that day due to no cards and *** told Steve to go ahead and replace the wipers and the right rear bulbHow she thinks that we would have been doing the inspections without the cards I’m not exactly sure how she thought thatShe knew we did not have the proper cards to do the inspectionsSo to say she only had those items done thinking she would have it inspected is not true at allI Sam did talk to *** a couple days after the vehicle was in and told her I had to check on a couple things and I would get back to her she was upset at the charge for the diagnosis since the oil change did not seem to fix her carI called *** back and told her I would meet her halfway on the diagnosis as a good gesture but she has to understand that I have to pay my employee's for his time looking at the vehicle as wellI did not hear back from *** until I received this letter from the Revdex.comSteve had also talked to ***’s father who Steve says was a mechanic of some sort and he seemed to understand everything that was going on and why we had done what we did.Nothing was done to be deceiving at allWe did what we thought was right and also what the diagnosis chart had told us to do 1stAs I had said before I enclosed the information that we used to diagnosis the ck eng light and it specifically states to ck oil level 1st which we did and found it to be quarts low and that’s why we suggested to change the oil, clear the light and drive to see if that took care of the problem which it unfortunately did notApparently she has a timing chain issue which we unfortunately do not have the correct tools to do here in our shopIf you have any questions please feel free to call me Sam at ***Thank you kindly

Hi. I am writing back in response to the 2nd letter from [redacted] case#ID [redacted]. I truly believe there was a lot of miscommunication in the whole process of this vehicle being service here at [redacted]. I wish I had dealt with the customer so that I had all the facts straight instead of getting bits and pieces of it from the customer and my employee’s. I am going to refund the amount of $266.46 to the customer to just end this problem that has occurred. Although I do not think that we should have worked on the vehicle for free and not sure where the miscommunication occurred and am just refunding the money to make the customer happy. We have been in business for over 33 years and the reason we have been is because we are very honest with the services we provide and somehow we dropped the ball for this customer. So please have the customer call and ask for Sam K[redacted] and we will make arrangements to refund the money to her. We also have a set of her car keys here that I would like to make sure she gets back. She can contact me at [redacted]. Thank you.

Review: On May **, 2014 while driving on the Van Wyck Expressway, my steering wheel on my car (2002 Pontiac Grand Am) came off!

The Goodyear Baisley Tire and Auto Repair Shop had replaced the steering wheel the week before and apparently forgot to put the screws back in the steering wheel! Also, the "Service Engine Light" remains on even after having a brand new catalytic converter installed. The [redacted] ([redacted]) has a nonchalant attitude about the entire situation even though the total invoice ($1,650.47) was demanded before he even ordered the parts for the car.Desired Settlement: Ideally, I would like for the repairs to be handled by another Repair Shop of my choosing; and the cost to be absorbed by Goodyear Baisley Tire and Auto Repair. I'm fearful for my life with the repairs done there now. However, if the work can be done professionally and safely without delay and guaranteed, the outcome would be acceptable.
