Gorilla Home Improvements Reviews (1)

Review: We contracted with Gorilla Home Improvements to add on a porch to our house in 2013 after seeing them at a home improvement show at the [redacted] Expo Center. After receiving an earlier bid from another contractor, we went with Gorilla since their background appeared to 'check out' - the Revdex.com had no complaints for Gorilla and no pending law suits. The original contract was signed February 25, 2013 for roughly $30,000 with two salesmen. After nearly a month had passed, [redacted], then came to our house to discuss the order/contract and help us decide on materials and timing. We DID NOT ask for [redacted] to do the work but he stated he represented Gorilla. [redacted] then laid out a plan to get a permit first which took months unnecessarily (until August 2, 2013). He stated that [redacted] Township Zoning officer went back and forth on the approval process (but after discovering his work ethic, we became dubious of his honesty). Months later, after August, he started to break ground and subcontracted to have cement poured, framing and roofing completed by sub-contractors. We paid invoices from [redacted] ON TIME, but after long waits and months, we were called by those sub-contractors for payment since [redacted] did NOT PAY THEM! Both mentioned the possibility of liens on our property even though we had already paid [redacted]. We don't know what happened to this money. When we wouldn't pay [redacted] AHEAD for a third invoice, he reluctantly came back to the project (half days - little concerted effort). It appears that he uses a tactic of smoke and mirrors - "just pay me and I can pay others", but what really happens is that he gets paid and doesn't show up OR pay his sub-contractors. When he did show up for some work for finishing the porch (e.g., flooring, ceiling, sofits, etc.), he created a mess working with only his son and a friend. [redacted] apparently knows very little about finishing work and proceeded to install the flooring completely wrong (needed some mitering that never occurred), put up pvc ceiling material with the lines parallel to the house (wrong) and sofits that ran parallel to the house (also wrong). The trim work is abhorrent and steps leading from the porch were fastened completely wrong. It became apparent that the project was above [redacted]'s skills. [redacted] also lied about approvals for work or denied payment I'd made to him when talking to others (who called me to verify his deceit). All [redacted] would say over all these months when we would confront him is "No Problem" and it was just small things that needed to be adjusted. Given our skepticism, we checked the [redacted] County courthouse records and we discovered [redacted] had up to 53 pending suits against him for prior work. In May 2014, we had an attorney send a letter to have [redacted] complete work to our satisfaction by May 20 and all his belongings moved from our property by May 30. We were so hurt and trust was broken on a project that should have taken 3 months tops and continued over a year (with an intolerable outcome). In mid-May I approached [redacted] and proceeded to show him all the defective work he had done and asked him to please LEAVE the project. I noted that it was over his head and he simply agreed (stated that he works on larger projects usually) and we both decided to part ways. We spent roughly $24,000 with [redacted] and his resulting mess. We would like some compensation for our loss as we are looking to have other contractors bid to finish the project which will likely go well over the $30,000 total project cost. The building inspector said unless many things were fixed, he would not approve the final project.Desired Settlement: A refund of $12,000 (minimum) is requested for the amount to REDO [redacted]'s work (to our satisfaction and inspection approval). This requested amount is in consideration of materials ordered and wasted (need to be replaced due to his faulty work and some materials not even approved for job). Storm water drainage work was also never completed under payment requiring additional work now.
