Terrible/Abysmal Service

Like many reviews above I recently hired a car at Girona Airport Spain and received absolutely zero customer service from GotRentalCars.com . The car rental office was shut despite being their on time. I rang their UK number many times and just got through to an answer phone. I even rang their US number at great cost and was told to return in the morning. I had to pay for a late night taxi to the resort then back again in the morning after another round of unanswered call and messages. Since returning home I have emailed their support and phoned and left a message, as before no response. Like so many above terrible service never use again. Gotrentalcars.com please reply to my email sent on 22 May 2022 at 13:17.

AWFUL
We were due to land at Faro airport at 6 40 in the evening. After clearing customs and collecting our luggage our paperwork said we had to pick up a shuttle bus to take us to Turisprime to collect the car a short distance away. Well we waited for an hour but no bus arrived. We asked at the airport and found out Turisprime were a 10 minute walk away so we set off. When we got there it was closed. Back to the airport. We went to the Avis desk where a very helpful lady made a phone call and then told us Turisprime were closed and we would have to come back at 9 oclock in the morning. We had no choice but to hire another car at 3 times the price. Next day I contacted Turisprime and a very unhelpful man said it was nothing to do with them and to contact Gorentalcars. I phoned them and held for 20 minutes but no answer. On returning home I have tried to contact them numerous times but either get cut off or no one answers. Why would Gorentalcars hire us a car knowing full well what time we land and use a company that will be closed when we arrive. Why doesn't anyone answer the phone. The customer service is non existent. All they want is your money. In case Gorentalcars do actually consider getting back to me my booking voucher is 93459936 but I won't hold my breath

Disabled Driver - Left Stranded at Malaga
I booked a larger vehicle with Automatic due to a leg problem.
I arrived at Malaga and waited with all the other reps for 1hr until I was the only one there. Tried to call and closed, it was 9.10pm. Security tried to assist told me to go to "info" in a carpark. Struggling to walk, walked a mile and info was generic and closed.
Called ClickRent Malaga, left message. Called USA, due to time difference, no answer. Called Spain again (all at high cost) and listened to recorded message for where to meet shuttle bus. 0.5miles walking, I took a taxi for a mile to get to shuttles. In agony, I got to the shuttles and no ClickRent or GotRentalCars and waited with a crowd - in the dark car park until I was the last but one person standing... It was 10pm This person was waiting for a taxi... And he left!
With over an hour to go to my holiday destination, I called again. Left message. I then caught a taxi as the last resort at a cost of €138!
Called during next day, no answer; left message.
Holiday ruined without a vehicle. Cab back to a/p €100.
THANKS GOTRENTALCARS. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

This website is a SCAM and they make money out of the impossible cancellations. I should have read the reviews before using them, now im in a situation where I need to cancel my booking and can't reach anyone from their customer service because they probably dont even have a customer service department its all a SCAM. AVOID if you care for your money. Maybe it works if you dont have to go through their non existent customer service. BUT IF YOU NEED SERVICE FOR ANY REASON, YOU WONT GET IT. WORST COMPANY IVE EVER DEALT WITH.

THEY SAY YOU CAN ONLY CANCEL THROUGH MAIL OR IN THEIR WEBSITE IN THE MY ACCOUNT TAB, WELL I TRIED DOING THE MY ACCOUNT TAB AND IT ONLY SENDS ME TO A BROKEN WEB SITE, PROBABLY PURPOSLEY BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT THAT IS THE WAY THESE PEOPLE MAKE MONEY. PLEASE AVOID IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME.

Dear sir, you originally contacted us outside of hours of operations so this is why you could not reach us but then once we verified with the rental company that you did not pick up the car, the first thing we did on Monday morning was to send you an email confirming the full refund. You have been refunded in full on July 20th. If you have not received the funds then contact your bank as it was refunded on our end. And I also wanted to mention that the website works fine and we have never received any email communication from you regarding this matter. Terrible Terrible Terrible customer service. The first agent I spoke with BEFORE I agreed to rent a vehicle, (I had questions so I called the company) was very nice but guess he didn't have the knowledge, training or maybe needed a sale, of how the company worked. The first agent informed me I would have 48 hrs. Before pick up to cancel without being penalized $50.00, which ended up NOT being accurate. He also told me they WOULD NOT charge my credit card until 4-5 days before pick up. Another inaccurate statement, they charged my card shortly after I agreed to rent a vehicle. Then, when I needed to cancel, the very very very rude guy swore up and down he would be charging me the $50.00. He keep telling me I should have read the agreement, I tried to explain to him I was talking to a person on the phone when I agreed to rent and didn't have a copy of the agreement. I told him to hang on and didn't cancel at that moment, instead I called Thrifty Car Rentals, explained the situation. Thrifty said for Gotrentalcar.com to call Thrifty Directly because of Covid-19 they WERE NOT charging the cancellation fee, (which that was where the $50.00 would go) supposedly. He refused to call them I even gave him the persons name to ask for. The first agent was the reason I agreed to rent from them. Not again, we will Never Never rent from them again. We will pay 2 or 3 times more for a vehicle first, or cancel our vacation. Terrible Terrible Terrible. I think the company should require employees to go through customer service training, because the last guy I dealt with needs that training or a different job NOT in customer service

Please find below the answer from Thrifty key account manager customer service advocate:

"This is a rental from July, which has not been cancelled. It is also a third party booking, so any refund is made by the Gotrentalcars.com not Thrifty. We are no longer waiving the cancellation fee and the regular policy is back in effect because travel has been opened back up."

So as I was explaining you over the phone the $50 USD cancellation penalty will apply. Gotrentalcars will have to pay Thrifty the $50 USD penalty so this fee is due by the client to Gotrentalcars. As a reminder please find below the cancellation policy written on your voucher; the same was displayed on the website before you made the reservation.

If cancelling or amending this reservation a $50 USD penalty applies. Cancellations made in the last 24 hours prior to vehicle pick-up time or in case of a no-show no refund is due.

In your case if you wish to cancel your rental today we can definitely do it for you and refund you $268 USD.
Please let us know what you wish to do.

The customer was then refunded the $268 according to the terms and conditions that he accepted during the booking process. Please note that the client made the reservation on its own on the website on which all terms and conditions are mentioned and must be accepted by all clients in order to complete a booking. We also offered the client a possible credit of $50 applicable under certain conditions.

Booked a rental car online complete with confirmation number. Got a call from a rep a few days later telling me no cars weren't avaIlable at the rate I booked. Now I would need to pay 3x that rate to book a vehicle. Price went from $300 to $1000.

Dear Mr. D, as explained over the phone you made a booking request for a car rental in S on the evening of December 4th for a pick up on December 28th. Unfortunately the rental company did not confirm your request overnight so the next morning we called you to let you know the request you made online was not fulfilled by the rental company. At no time we sent you a confirmation email with a reference number from the rental company. We are sorry we could not help you with your rental but during high season availability is limited and thus all requests are pending until confirmed by rental companies.

I rented a convertible through gotrentalcars.com approximately a year ago. I got a confirmation email confirming my reservation with detailed instructions how to get to the rental place when I arrived in my location. Upon arriving I followed the instructions given to me by gotrentalcars.com, but could not find the actual location. After an hour of searching I finally found the place. When I arrived at the rental counter, they told me that they could not give me the convertible car that I reserved because they didn't have the reservation. They gave me an economy car and charged me for it. A few days later I received an email from gotrentalcars.com stating that they would refund my money as I had not used the reservation. Three months later I noticed a charge from them on my statement. I tried contacting thatgotrentalcars.com via phone and email to question the charge to no avail. I could not reach anyone. I called my credit card provider to dispute the charge, and now over six months later they got back to me saying that gotrentalcars.com said that I had taken the car and that it was a valid charge. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. IT IS A SCAM

Dear Mr. Z, This review is not accurate and you know it as every time you disputed the transaction your bank accepted our answers and refunded the money back to GotRentalCars. We have already talked on the phone several times and sent you multiple emails to explain you what happened but it seems that you do not want to understand. You booked a compact convertible on our website but it appears that once you arrived at the rental company's desk this category could not be rented for drivers under 25 years old. The rental company thus gave you a standard car (which was considered an upgrade compared to a compact convertible) at no extra cost. The only charges incurred on site where the underage driver fees at $20 usd per day. These fees were not displayed properly on the GotRentalCars voucher so we did refund you the difference. Your prepaid reservation was used and charged accordingly. Underage driver fees are mandatory to pay if you are under 25 years old so at this point no refund is due from either Sixt or GotRentalCars.com. This is totally not true. I booked a convertible through your website. I could've booked another car on other websites and not paid the under age fee. I only paid it bec I booked with your website and booked a convertible. You misled me into thinking I would get a convertible. When I arrived at the rental place, they told me that I could not rent a convertible as I wasn't 25. They said that they weren't responsible for what gotrentalcars.com told me. At that point, I tried calling you many times, to no avail. I was DOWNGRADED to an economy car. I reconfirmed this by calling the rental place. An economy car instead of a convertible is a DOWNGRADE, not a upgrade! I was therefore forced to pay the more expensive convertible price for an economy car. I am still in the process of working this out with my bank. They understand my side and are working on clearing the charge. I truly would not recommend anyone using this company. It is a SCAM!

I used GotrentalCars.com to rent a car in paris charles de guel the Airport
one I have got the car with Eropcar they gave me the car so dirty inside and outside
they when I start driving the car is was steering to the right side so much and that was so dangerous I had to be careful with the car all time I contacted europ car they didnt want to change then I contacted Gotrentalcars here in the state and here is this unprofessional rep Called Julien that talk with bad attitude instead of resolving the problem
and the best part is that I had to deal with it for 13 days and at the drop off of the vehicle I asked for receipt they didnt want to give me one and said we will email it to you
I waited for my copy but I found out that they over charged me for $114 dollars instead
I called Julien again since he is the only one working there and calm to be
he said he can do nothing and he is goign to send email to them and it will take 2 weeks to a full month to find out why they charged me
what a great customer service I will never use Gotrentalcars ever
and will recommend no body to use them believe me once you need them all what your going to hear is I can do nothing and you have to wait

As I explained you multiple times over the phone, until we receive a reply from Europcar Customer Service team in France we could not assess your claim. Now that your claim has been treated I am happy to tell you that Europcar has granted you a full refund of your local charges. They also do apologize for not being able to accommodate you and swapping out the car. For this reason they have refunded you all mandatory local charges and the extra day you have been charged for returning the car later than what you had paid for.
I wish we could have answered your claim earlier but the time rental companies take to answer customer service claims is beyond our control.

Im not trying to be cheap or trying to get refund
I have made the reservation with you. And that mean I have put my trust in you. But to call you and ask you for help and the only awnser that I get from you is that I will have to wait up to get a Receipt for my rental agreement.my question is how long does it take to end up contract and print it out 2 mint maybe after returning the car right why the sale rep didn't want to do it and told me that I need to wait for it in my email so they can charge me for the extra day
And by the way I have rented the car at 9.17 am and I returned it at 9.30 or so and what make me be late with couple minutes is because they're were only one person and he was helping somebody else plus my return was normally at 11.00 am so I don't really see what the extra day for
And I tried to change the car like 4 times going to the airport without hope
So what do you expect me to do when I call you Mr J and instead of being nice a professional with me
You gave attitude and wanted me to talk with you in french (yes I do speak french but Im in the state now so dont ask me if speak french is it because of my name)
Trust me I work in customer service and you have no idea what's handling a situation is
Any way my idea is I paid my money for the car rental so I expect what I paid that all what it is .

Once and for all, as explained previously, we do not have control over rental companies claim response time. We did our best to answer your complaint as quickly as possible. We could not speak for Europcar so as long as they had not responded we could not give you an answer. However we did obtain a commercial gesture for you and you have been refunded all mandatory local charges plus an extra day charged because you had returned the car after the time you picked it up.
Now please let me clarify one more thing about our practices. We have clients contacting our call center from all over the world and in order to satisfy our clients' needs we do have representatives that speak Spanish, French, Italian, German and of course English. Now when I speak with a client that has a French accent (and an email address ending with hotmail.fr in your case). I do try to speak French with them to facilitate our exchanges. You preferred to speak in English and that's what we did.

BEWARE of using GotRentalCars.com!!....
Going through Hell trying to get a refund on a bad rental car with GotRentalCars.com!!!....
I rented a car through GotRentalCars.com to pick up a Grand Jeep Cherokee in Vancouver on Feb 13th with "***"......
GotRentalCars.com is a car rental broker & you pay through them but they use various car rental companies to actually pick up your car.....
When I made the reservation I told them that my flight was to get into Vancouver at 9:10pm & I would pick up the car at 9:30pm and included my flight number...
I got to the shuttle kiosk to call for *** to pick me up to get the car...No one answered the phone & got a message that their voice mail was not set up...The sign for *** in the kiosk said they closed at 9:00pm...Tried 3 different numbers & got the same message...I tried calling GotRentalCars.com also & they were closed as well, so I sent them an email about the situation asking them to call me....Tried for over an hour in the cold & snow calling about 30 times & could not get a human....
Finally gave up & rented a car at ***...The only car they had was a compact car at a much greater cost!...
I contacted the French gentleman at GotRentalCars.com the next morning & he told me that *** was supposed to be open till 11:00 & he would contact them for a refund...
When I returned to the airport I took a pic of the sign that clearly showed that *** closes at 9:00pm & emailed it to GotRentalCars.com...
Still didn't hear back from them so I called & the French gentleman again at GotRentalCars.com & he told me that *** was supposed to wait for me but apparently didn't...
He told me that he would issue a full refund & would try to get them to compensate me for the rate increase I had to pay with ***...
NEVER heard back from him & it's been over 2 weeks now & still no refund!!!..
I have NEVER gotten any return emails or phone calls from the multiple times I've tried contacting GotRentalCars.com and have requested them to call me!...
Have tried calling several times to check on the status of the refund & can't get through & the 2 numbers with GotRentalCars.com will no longer let you leave a voice mail!....
I sent another email & have yet to hear back on the status!!...
They never would call or email me back & not once did they ever apologize for my inconvenience!!....
Can't tell you how much time I've wasted on this bad rental car deal! ...Feel like this is a total scam!!...
I called my credit card company & am now disputing the charges!...
After another call, I finally got through to GotRentalCars.com and the Frenchman told me that they did now issue a credit for the rental amount & are still waiting to see if *** will pay the difference I had to pay with ***...
After I called again, they did finally send me an email that simply stated that my rental agreement was now canceled at no cost...
I still have yet to see any refund online with my credit card company...
HORRIBLE Customer Service & HORRIBLE experience!!!...
Will leave the appropriate reviews with *** & *** as well...
And contacting the Revdex.com too!...
Lots of other rental car companies out there!...
Would certainly think twice about using GotRentalCars.com.... FYI

This site wouldn't let me delete or change my original review but I wanted to add that I did get a full refund from GotRentalCars.com.
And I finally got a $50 (Canadian) credit issued from *** Car Rental to help offset the cost difference from being forced to rent a smaller car at a greater cost from another car rental company.
It took a while to get settled & the $50 (Canadian) did not cover the entire additional cost difference but it certainly helped!
The owners of *** Car Rental & GotRentalCars.com did apologize for the situation and my inconvenience...

GotRentalCars.com's efforts & follow up we're responsible for the $50 credit & I am grateful for that!
I am satisfied & happy with the outcome.
