Grafton has a full-time Registered Dietician whose responsibilities include approval of menus, nutritional assessments of individuals served when needed, oversight of special diets and nutritional plans, and oversight of Grafton's compliance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements. Grafton provides balanced, nutritious and appropriate meals and snacks based on USDA guidelines and state regulations. Individuals select their own birthday cakes/celebration treats. While gluten-free options are already available through Grafton's nutrition services, the order form is being revised to clearly reflect a check box option for gluten free items to promote its use, when desired. Grafton follows all written medical orders provided by physicians and nutritional orders by Registered Dieticians for special diets.Grafton respects students' preferences, as able, while purchasing food within the group's budgets. Ordered diets are followed regardless of associated expenses. Grafton strives to provide quality treatment and educational services so that a student may transition from our homes/schools to a home/local community setting as quickly as possible. When applicable, specific food preferences are clearly reflected in a student's treatment plan to promote staff awareness and sensitivity to that preference. Orders are also clearly reflected in treatment plans, when applicable, to assure they are consistently followed by all employees.Information about Grafton's practices related to nutritional services and special diets is readily available to students, parents, involved agencies, and the public through the posting of Grafton's Wellness Policy on the internet (https://www.grafton.org/services nutritionA) and in the Parent-Student Handbook provided upon request and to each student/family admitted for services. Grafton promotes the rights of individuals receiving services, including the right to freely make a complaint. It is important for all individuals to learn to self-advocate, and for all of us to advocate on the behalf of others as needed.
