Grand Bear Resort Reviews (%countItem)

I have to let you know how disappointed we were with our stay. It was as if none of the staff knew what was going on. Expect for your front desk, they were great.
I understand that there is new management. But that is not an excuse for being rude and not helpful.

The first problem we encountered, which I feel is the most important has to do with a few of your staffs helpfulness. My husband and I are still in shock with one of your staffs attitudes. I wish I would have got her name, but I was just stunned I forgot to look at her name badge. All we did was ask this red head younger gal on the first floor, how do we get to the outdoor bar area. Her response was “I am not working right now. You will have to ask someone else”. Unbelievable!! How hard is it to just tell us to exit at the end of the hall and go and follow the road. We still are talking about this. This is just unacceptable.

So we end up finding the outdoor bar ourselves. We went there because you advertise that you can order food there. We walk down there and sit at the bar and ask the bartender if we can see a menu. She tells us we cannot order food only drinks. So we go back into the hotel and go to the indoor bar area and ordered a pizza.
We ordered a pizza with a few toppings, pepperoni, sausage & green peppers. Now mind you we are the only people here since it just opened at 4pm. And what do you know, the pizza has the wrong toppings. There was no sausage, instead they put Italian beef on it??!!

While we were leaving the restaurant a food manager asked us how everything is going. We asked her how come we could not order food at the outdoor bar. She said you can order anything from the bar and we would bring it out to you! Why did the bartender said we couldn’t order anything?!!

And now for the hotel problems - we were in room 314
1) Hair dryer did not work. I did not bring mine because I called on Friday to make sure the rooms had hair dryers
2) Large bolt was sticking out of the bed frame. Two of us banged into it, which caused bleeding.
3) Bed was terrible. My husbands side of the bed was so slanted. He felt like he was going to fall off the bed, so he had to sleep on the uncomfortable sofa bed.
3) Ice from the ice machine smelled and tasted like rotten eggs.

Water park - yellow slide
My husband found 3 large screws floating at the bottom of the yellow slide. He gave them to a lifeguard, and I saw him do nothing but throw them in the garbage! A child could have gotten seriously injured!

I was Leary of staying based on the online reviews I read. But it was a last minute birthday trip so I decided to book one night and see how it was. One night turned into 4 nights and I would have stayed longer if I could. We booked a whirlpool room for a very affordable $133. I was informed via email immediately after booking that the waterpark was closed, which is also clear on their website . Upon checking in I was asked if I had received the email and was aware. When I walked into the room, it was cute and clean. It smelled good. Reports that it is not cleaned or only a few times a week are untrue, it was cleaned everyday we were there. Staff was very friendly, they all talked to us. The only negative experiences I saw where from the customers themselves, people who were angry because they did not read well enough to see the waterpark was closed, people who complained that a certain flavor danish was not on the continental breakfast (this isn't a restaurant). In fact, they continually refilled all the items, even though I witnessed greedy people sit with 3 cereals, 4 juices, etc in front of them, I'm assuming to save for later. Eric the manager was more than respectful in his encounters with everyone I saw. It makes me mad to see so many people telling untruths about this place when in my opinion, the only negative experience I had was seeing some people who want something for nothing. I was extremely happy, have recommended to all, and will return.

Our one night stay at villa unit K-1 was unacceptable. After a long day of hiking at the state parks and driving, etc, the whirlpool tub was filled as we expected to receive a nice long soak in it. Instead, what was received, was black gunk spewing out of the jets. One of the smoke alarms in the bedrooms starting chirping EXTREMELY LOUDLY at 5 A.M. every minute which afforded us no more sleep. On a lesser note, the outdoor lights did not work, so you could not see in the dark to get to your unit. There were long screws on the staircase going upstairs that were from the railings. Staircase railing was completely loose. Management definitely needs to check out units before they are reserved. 9/4/2017

We stayed at Grizzly Jack Resort on the weekend of 8/18/17. Our $400.00 a nigh villa was loaded with bed bugs and black fire ants. Room was filthy with broken furniture and visible nails protruding from one of the couches.
Telephones didn't work in our room. The entire room was filthy with dirty furniture, scummy floors and nasty walls that needed to be scrubbed down.
The petting zoo was not open the entire weekend we stayed (although they advertised it as a main attraction). Also, the water slide, wet area water had disgusting, cloudy water. Unreal!
Eating at the restaurant was nasty, too. They didn't even give people spoons with dinnerware. An unfriendly and uncaring place. When our family complained about the bed bugs, they told us to expect this kind of thing in the woods. Child was bitten on foot with welts. I was nipped by very large fire ants that left painful bumps.
Unacceptable. DO NOT STAY!
