Grand Express Van Lines Reviews (21)

Review: I contracted Grand Express Van Lines to do a personal move for me on 9/30/13 with a quote of $2400 - 30 cents per lb with a total of 8000 lbs.

I was under the impression they would be arriving in the morning, but did not arrive until 2:30 in the afternoon. Of course, due to the time they were in a hurry. When they finished loading the truck it was too late to go to a weigh station, so they estimated the cost using the excuse I was way over the weight, so they charged me an additional $600. Yes, the truck with packed, but the majority of boxes were not heavy.

When they arrived at my new location which was 1 1/2 hrs away they again were in a rush. They pretty much threw everything in one room without asking me where I wanted things. They never put the mirror back on my dresser and right now I am unable to find it. They refused to try to put my refrigerator where I wanted it and now it's in my dining room.

When I called the following day to complain I was told they would send out another crew to help me sort through the room. I was not available that day, so I was told someone would be out on Saturday - 10/5/13 - still waiting.

I am also find damage to furniture and a box of perishable foods that were to be loaded in my vehicle is somewhere in the room.

I also have an oak electric fireplace that the mantel has been separated from. I know they tried to repair it as I see hammer marks and the wood is split. They never mentioned breaking it.

Everytime I suggested something to the driver he said he knew better. One of his men didn't speak or understand English whick was another issue as he was not able to follow instruction and caused much of the issues.Desired Settlement: Personally, I don't believe the additional $600 was justified - a couple hundred would have been more reasonable. I also want compensation for all damages including hiring someone to move my refrigerator and the charge I will have to pay for a phone line that was supposed to be free if the tech had been able to enter the room. Plus the cost of the food that I am still unable to find.

Response:

This issue has been completely resolved with the client. We reimburssed her for her losses. The client attempted to remove this complaint, however there was no option for this.

Thank you,

I am rejecting this response because:

The company is basing their response by what their movers said. They didn't explain that the movers didn't show up until 2:30 in the afternoon for a move that had an hour and a half travel destination. It was late and they just wanted to get done.

The room I had told them to put the boxes in was large enough to accomodate everything if it had been done in a organized manner - not shoved every which way. Things were shoved in the door way at all angles. It took me a week just to be able to remove boxes without them falling down around me. They threw pieces of furniture on top of the boxes. The rooms upstairs are smaller, but there were 2 rooms on the lower level. Of course, they didn't ask me any questions as to where or how I wanted things.

They told me my bedroom furniture wouldn't fit in my bedroom - funny it fits fine with room left over. They told me the refrigerator wouldn't fit downstairs, yet the people I hired afterwards had no trouble getting it down the stairs.

Also, what about the damage that was done to my belongings. They ripped off the mantle to an electric fireplace I have. They also gouged the top of an oval cherry wood end table I have which will now have to be thrown away. It was placed upside down on a pile of boxe which leads me to believe they knew about the gouge and that's why it was left there instead of the living room. I have expensive dining chairs and they decided to shove one onto a pile of boxes. When I was able to get it down I noticed it was scratched - probably why they chose to put it that way since the other one was placed in the other room.

This is not including items that were found broken. I haven't unpacked all my boxes, so I don't know what else is broken.

I think potential customers need to know about the lack of respect this company shows for people's personal belongings and how they raise prices without going to a weigh station.

I am sure if they had arrived in the morning the day of the move things would have gone better, but because they didn't I was the one who suffered.

Regards,
