Complaint Response-
"">We performed this driveway on April 16, As with all of the other driveways projects we work on, we fully discuss the details of how the job is going to be completed and do not ask for any deposit or down payment, only full payment on completion of the contractWe do this to ensure customer satisfactionWe discussed with the customer and a relative about an existing root from a tree in the driveway that we knew was going to cause issues, explained that we had no way of removing said root, also that someone had previously severely drug out the earth and also suggested the addition of dirt in an attempt to try to fix the drivewayThe dirt would have been an extra $dollarsThe customer and a relative decided prior to the job (as stated in the complaint) that said dirt would not be usedHad the customer wanted to use the dirt we would have applied it at no additional labor cost as stated in the original estimate, which was $The final payment was $In an effort to comply with the most frugal solution to this driveway problem both parties decided on a planWhile we were performing the project the customer's relative stopped by several times inspecting the job and the customer once before final payment, as wellAfter we graded the lawn at the property (at no additional charge) and the customer and the relative inspected the project, is when we took paymentThe customer contacted us a few days later and said that the tenants were complaining about the drivewayWe went to the property on April 21th to inspect and took photos to go along with the before and after photos that we took while completing this projectThis is standard procedure on all of our contracts in an attempt from protecting our company against non-payment and also to ensure customer satisfactionWe didn't notice anything different from the day we performed the serviceA month went by and we were contacted again from the customer only stating "You know what you did wrongYou need to fix it." Another month went by and we received the same contact This complaint was the first detailed complaint we have received from this customerWe have previously expressed to the customer that if they do not feel there were enough rock, dirt or materials they can have more brought inAs we don't generate the materials ourselves, the materials cost is the same to the customer as it is to our companyWe would be more than happy to provide the labor at no additional cost in an attempt to come to a resolution to this problem

Review: I hired Grand Improvements to install a gravel driveway on my rental property. The original estimate stated that dirt would be used to even out the driveway grade (it was built on an uneven, upward-slanting hill). Shortly before the work was performed, I was told that only gravel would be used to fill out the uneven spots. I was told that the gravel, even without the underlying dirt layer, would stay packed for roughly 6 years. Grand Improvements performed the work on April 16, 2014. Soon after, the property tenants called to complain. One tenant was unable to drive his sedan past a steep grade in the driveway that was supposed to be evened out. Also, the width of the driveway was very uneven. It was wide enough at the bottom but then tapered up at the top to where it wasn't even wide enough for a mid-sized SUV to park. The spot where the driveway meets the road had also not been fully dug out. I notified Grand Improvements of these issues on April 18, and was told that someone would come out within the week to take a look. A month passed with no contact. Meanwhile, the tenants complained of spots on the driveway where the gravel had worn or washed away within weeks of use, leaving bare patches of dirt. Other parts of the driveway had also sunken in, even though I had been told the gravel would stay packed for 6 years. I contacted Grand Improvements again on May 14 - no response. On June 4, I let Grand Improvements know I was taking further action. This time, they responded, but in an argumentative tone. Their rebuttal was basically, "you gave us the money, so that must mean we did a good job." They said they would fix their work only if I purchased additional gravel and paid to have it hauled in (approximately $300). I refused and they continued to insist that I was happy with their job "because I paid for it." They still never sent anyone out, even to inspect the driveway. Their final response to me, when told they would be reported to consumer agencies was, "do what you gotta do."Desired Settlement: To resolve this dispute, Grand Improvements needs to come back and finish the job to an acceptable level of quality, and at their own expense. If not willing to do so, they should cover the cost of the additional gravel (plus delivery) needed for me to finish the job myself.
