This is a very unfortunate situation for both parties. Our boat suffered significant damage to the propeller and transom due to an impact. We based our decision to keep his deposit based on the following:* At the time of the rental, Mr. * was given a pre-inspection of the boat. Mr. * inspected the...

boat and signed the pre-inspection form.  This form has a line item for the condition of the propeller. There was no indication that part of the propeller was broken off. * Mr * signed paper work to authorize that he would be driving. This paperwork states that he has at least two years of boating experience. Mr. * states in his Revdex.com complaint that he would not check under the hood of a rental car. We contend, that someone one with boating experience would be familiar with checking a propeller before boating, as thisis common safety practice. It is also part of the contract agreement as well as instructed in the safety video he watched before getting on the boat. * Mr *, or no one in his party, called GBR at any time to say the boat was not running properly. A boat with this type of damage would be obvious.* When the party returned, the boat was inspected again. The propeller was obviously broken and the boat was running very rough. It is our standard procedure to inspect boatsbefore and after every rental. This is the reason we have an inspection form. We would like it known that we have done everything in our power to keep the costs of the repair to a minimum and to expedite the repair. He was given a more than reasonable repair bill of $447.78.  Had he taken this bill to any boat service center, the charges would have been significantly more and probably not completed within five days. This also saved him charges of down time as the boat was reserved for the following Saturday. We understand his upset feelings, but we stand by the steps we have taken.

Review: Myself and 8 others rented a boat for approximately a 3 hour period. We each viewed an instructional video as required and signed the waiver and contract. We had originally reserved a 12 person pontoon boat. Staff informed us that they had a 16 person pontoon boat available and insisted that we take the larger one to ensure we had enough space. We obliged and took the 16 person boat. While loading our things into the boat the staff did an extremely cursory inspection of the boat. The staff did not at anytime lift up the boat motor and inspect the propeller at this time, although he checked it off that he had and much to my current dismay I did as well. I did not think anything of it, as I have never asked for the hood of a rental car to be opened so I could inspect the engine. Staff later indicated to myself and two other witnesses that he "may" have failed to inspect the propeller before letting us go out. From the very beginning to the very end of our trip, the boat operated in exactly the same manner. From the very beginning the boat motor would shake when it began to accelerate and then would settle once it reached a consistent speed. However, this was consistent from the very beginning. At no time did I, or anyone on my boat, ever see, hear, or feel any collision of any kind with our boat. When we returned the boat, staff immediately went to the boat motor, lifted it out of the water and inspected the propeller. To the complete disbelief of our entire party the propeller had several major dents in it as well as a piece missing from one of the fins of the propeller. There was certainly nothing during our trip which anyone felt or heard which could have led to this type and magnitude of damage. This company has now charged me over 450 dollars, on top of the 350 dollar rental fee, for the complete replacement of their propeller, for welding costs, and for overall repair costs. This amount has already been taken out of my initial 500.00 depositDesired Settlement: I would like a complete reimbursement of my deposit. If there was any semblance of evidence that I had during my trip that I had in fact been the cause of this damage I would not now be quibbling over 450.00. However, there was nothing that I can point to that led to the damage I am now being accused of. As a result I would like a full refund of my deposit.
