Granite DKI Reviews (1)

Complaint[redacted] Granite contracting ([redacted]) was hired to fulfill an insurance claim and do substantial repairs to the main floor of **s home. The completed work was satisfactory for the most part, except the flooring installed throughout the kitchen, dining room and hallway. Granite installed a new subfloor throughout the locations described above then installed laminate flooring over top. It was within a matter of weeks that Granite was called in to do repairs to the laminate flooring. The edges of some of the slats were perforated and uneven. Granite replaced the area that was unsatisfactory. Within a few weeks again, the same issue occurred with the flooring. Granite was no longer willing to do any repairs, stating that the issue was not an installation problem, but rather a manufacturing problem and to contact the flooring manufacturer. ** contacted the [redacted] flooring department with this matter. They sent out a store representative as well as the brand's salesman to view the flooring. They both determined that ** would have to contact the flooring manufacturing company ([redacted]) directly to resolve the issue. After much correspondence with [redacted], they decided to resolve this issue with an independent third party inspector. [redacted]. In short, it states that the sub-flooring is uneven; furthermore, the laminate was installed improperly. The full report was given to Granite electronically and in person on July 30, 2014. It was after many attempts of trying to get in touch with [redacted] via email, telephone and in person to reach an agreeable plan of action that a response was eventually received. [redacted] response was that he has no plans of repairing the sub-floor or the flooring in [redacted] home and that ** will have to sue him. Since this issue has been going on, the condition of the floor continues to worsen.Desired SettlementTo have the sub-floor leveled and the laminate flooring re-installed properly. Business Response In response to the complaint RE: flooring issues. Granite DKI was asked to come and look at damages to the floor that was installed by Granite DKI. It first seemed to be that we had chipped some corners on the laminate during install so we changed the effected pieces. We were called back and it seemed that the damage was now more wide spread. I deemed that it has either been wet or or it is a manufacturing flaw. I contacted The [redacted] where I had purchased the flooring and they had the rep from [redacted] come and look. They then hired an independent flooring inspector to look at the floor. a report was sent to Granite and the home owner. the report stated that there has been topical water damage on the first line of the report and goes on to state that there was rollers on the chairs that were to small for the flooring to take the weight. Is also mentions that there is an area where the flooring is too tight, which Granite would have done on install. Which we are willing to correct. But the home owners fail to read the lines of the report that state the water damage thus causing the floor to swell and with the roller castors on the chairs causing the floor to chip off along the edges.the daughter of the Owner came to see me in September and asked if I was willing to replace the floor at my expense, I said no I was not willing to do that as the report states there has been water damage. [redacted]. I asked about the outstanding amounts of the extras we did during the reconstruction and the deductible still out standing. I got no response as she left my office. I have since informed the insurance company that we were working with to complete the insurance claim and we have been informed that the dispute is between Granite DKI and the insured, as they refuse to sign off on the flooring and we have not been paid for that work as well $2700.00 approx.I left a message for the insured at the beginning of December with no response. I will try again and see if we can come to an agreement on the amounts owed to Granite DKI But with the report that clearly states water damage I believe Granite DKI will not be replacing the floor at our expense.[redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Many details in Granite DKI's version of events in this matter are simply untrue. The facts are as outlined in **'s initial complaint. Furthermore:The documents Granite DKI supplied in their response to the Revdex.com were issued directly to **, from [redacted]. Granite DKI has a copy of these documents because ** shared them with [redacted]. Granite DKI was not cooperative, nor a part of having any of the follow up inspections done. Granite DKI is also giving misinformation that they contacted and had the inspections done through "[redacted]" all untrue. "[redacted]" is not even a vendor in this claim, it is the [redacted] and [redacted]. The letter that Granite DKI has attached to the front of the inspection report has been withdrawn and deemed invalid by [redacted], as it is inaccurate. The Conclusion on page three of the third party inspection report clearly states: "Site Related Issues: There are consumer related issues that pertain to the peaking and swelling of the seams or end matches of planks in the kitchen and dining room areas. Installation Related Issues: There are installation issues that pertain to the necessary expansion per the manufacturing installation instructions. There are installation related issue that pertain to the floor evenness throughout the laminate flooring area. The floor is not even per the manufacturer's installation instructions or industry standards."The breadth of the installation (Granite DKI) issues far outweigh the site related (**) issues. The damage is more widespread because the floor was not level and the installation was done incorrectly. Granite DKI did not leave the minimum expansion gap to allow for expansion and movement. If Granite DKI is willing to correct these issues (as stated in Granite DKI's reply) why did we have to file a complaint? Please contact ** to fix the floor.Granite DKI is well aware that there has been no water damage to the floor. Firstly, if the damage to the floor is due to water why did they willingly fix it the first time? Secondly, the entire floor is buckling, if that was all due to water damage, this would be a separate insurance claim and stated in the report. After repeated attempts via fax, email, telephone and in person, a meeting with [redacted] was finally had. [redacted]. [redacted] (Granite DKI) said he would be willing to credit us the extra charge for the installation of the sub floor. However that would not solve the flooring issue, because the sub floor and the flooring needs to re-installed.[redacted] Granite has not been in touch with ** to reach an amicable settlement for this claim. Hence this Revdex.com claim. As far as any outstanding monies are concerned, ** received a letter from Granite DKI to sign-off on the floor and all costs would be settled. If Granite is willing the fix the flooring, ** will sign-off with the insurance company to have them release the full amount of the floor money to Granite DKI.
