I needed time to return the slabs of granite which I have done I got a refund on that granite and have returned it to the consumer

She asked me to recut some granite that we'd originally installed in I did agree to do that as a favor, to be nice, not as a business exchange, there was no money that changed hands, no contract, no businessThe granite was stolen from truck in the ***'s parking lotI filed a police report and let her knowShe insisted that I take the granite with me because she had no room in her kitchen with her counters being redone, I could have cut it in her driveway for her but she insistedIt was just a piece of granite, not all the granite in her kitchenThe cost for the piece was no more than $That's an educated guess because this is what I do for a livingI don't know why she's asking for so muchIt would be more reasonable for her to be asking for part of that $estimate

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
I do not currently have, nor have I ever, had any sort of personal relationship with this business owner; and at no point would I have ever asked him or any business for a favorI called the number listed on the receipt that we had from our original installation, the number to his place of business, to ask if cutting our counter was a service they could provideIf it was not, then I would consider it his responsibility to have said so and I would have contacted somewhere elseI was assured that it would be no problem, and he offered (I did not request) to take the granite back to his shop while we moved our cabinetsHe stated that taking it to the shop would be easier for him as well, because then he could use the better saws to cut it properlyAs a business, I expected that again, if this was not something that he was able to be responsible for, then he would not have offered to take it and the granite could easily have been left in our garageHe also claimed that the counter would be taken to the shop, not left unattended in the back of a pick up truck in the city. When the granite had been removed and loaded onto the truck, it was then that he returned to my door and gave me a quote of $(not $300) to cut the graniteThat sounded fair, and I agreed; rather than writing up a receipt or anything, he offered to follow me to the bank so I could take out $cash and give it to him right thenWhen it was apparent that I was uncomfortable with this, he then changed his mind and said that payment upon completion of the job would be fineHe also said that when he returned to reinstall the counter, he would also then "write up a receipt and everything," too. A few days later, I was told that the counter was stolen out of the back of his truck, probably in a ***'s parking lot (but possibly the auto parts store, he wasn't entirely sure); and the police report states that it was stolen from ***'s (not ***'s)While the original agreement was for $500, for the job of cutting and reinstalling the granite, my request is for $due to the incurred cost of the granite being stolenAs a place of business, the granite counter was his responsibility at the time it disappeared; which makes Granite Home Improvements, LLC liable for the damages incurred from it being stolenIt was his choice to leave it unattended in the back of his truck in a parking lot at or near a ***'sThe damages are a total of $2800.I have attached my original letter to him requesting just the cost of the piece of counter that was lost, as it would have been easiest to just resolve the issue without mediationI thought that the ***r amount would have a better chance of resulting in a responseHe chose, instead, to ignore the request, so I am now requesting full compensation for all damagesTo replace just the counter that was lost will result in mismatched counters in my kitchen; as he is experienced enough to know, granite cut from two different slabs does not actually match (often it looks very different), even if the color is supposedly the sameMismatched counters will significantly reduce the value of our home upon resaleI have also attached a copy of the original receipt, as well as my calculations regarding what we were charged for the part of the counter that is now missing - well over $
Sincerely,

She is not telling the truthI never told her I was taking her top to a shopShe knew I did not have a shopShe says there was no receipt because no money exchanged handsI did this as a favor

Ms *** was paid in full

She asked me to recut some granite that we'd originally installed in 2011. I did agree to do that as a favor, to be nice, not as a business exchange, there was no money that changed hands, no contract, no business. The granite was stolen from truck in the [redacted]'s parking lot. I filed a police report...

and let her know. She insisted that I take the granite with me because she had no room in her kitchen with her counters being redone, I could have cut it in her driveway for her but she insisted. It was just a piece of granite, not all the granite in her kitchen. The cost for the piece was no more than $300. That's an educated guess because this is what I do for a living. I don't know why she's asking for so much. It would be more reasonable for her to be asking for part of that $300 estimate.

I needed time to return the slabs of granite which I have done.  I got a refund on that granite and have returned it to the consumer.

I am rejecting this response because:Only part of my money, exactly $2,800.00 was returned to me.  We paid $3,800.00.  I am requesting the remaining amount of $1,000 in full to be returned to me in full as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I finished the job, she is way off base. The granite was in one piece because she insisted on it and I had to carry it up 2 flights of stairs. I do not even know what to say other than she got what she paid for.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/12/09) */
I did originally do the granite installation over a year ago but the sink was not supplied or installed by me. This complaint is not regarding my granite work, it is regarding an issue with the sink that I did not install or have anything to do...

with. The consumer contacted [redacted] with [redacted] the company that installed the sink, who in turn contacted me because he knew I had done the previous granite work. [redacted] requested that I go and try to remove the sink and I knew there was a chance it would crack and I let [redacted] know this. It did crack and [redacted] asked me to repair and replace the granite. I said I would do this for them but not free of charge. [redacted] told me they would have someone else do the work because they were not going to pay me and someone else owed them a favor.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 17, 2016/01/13) */
The attached items are in reference to Case# XXXXXXX. I would like for you to reopen the case and use these documents as evidence that the original contractor Granite Home Improvements , LLC did purchase and install the granite composite sink that got a crack in it and had to be replaced. In a previous statement by Granite Home Improvements. LLC ([redacted] the owner and installer) said he did not install the sink. That is an outright lie. He purchased from [redacted] the granite and the sink but he was the installer.
I have attached a copy of our contract with Granite Home Improvements, LLC showing the granite and sink purchase and payment. I have also attached copies of e-mails between [redacted] and my husband showing that once Granite Home Improvements, LLC tried to remove the sink and cracked the granite, he walked away from the job. [redacted] in good faith tried to right the situation but finding us another contractor to install the new granite and sink.
Thanking you for your time and efforts. My home e-mail is: [redacted]@gmail.com

Final Business Response /* (1000, 21, 2016/01/20) */
We told the customer that if we removed the counter top it could break. It did break and The company replaced the counter top. There is nothing else we can do. We did a perfect job for the customer. We did all we were supposed to do and we don't have any further obligation. We were not paid for any other work so there is no compensation due.
