May 1, Dear *** ***:This is in response to your letter of April 29, 2014.First, I am withdrawing the investigative report from my last response to your officeWhile I did cross-check the information with the Maryland Court System, I certainly would not want the material, published so as to any way harm ***'s business prospects or reputation.Turning to ***’s response.*** did complain to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Anytime there is a complaint, the USPTO assigns an attorney to investigateTo infer that an investigation equals wrongdoing is simply wrong. No one has slandered ***All materials and conversations between *** and myself were kept confidentialIt was *** who brought it to the BBS's attention that I called him a deadbeatIt was *** who complained about the quality of my work. The facts are that I have practiced law for yearsI have had my own practice for years, and have never had a complaint of any sort made against meI work with some of the finest patent attorneys in the country., as well as with small inventorsMy business ethics are of the highest standard. My wife and I were invited over to ***’s house to play the game in question (with *** and his wife) to better understand the subject matterMy wife, an MBA, gave him business suggestions, Having worked for years in the game and toy industry, I gave a number of marketing suggestions to ***I only wanted, and still only want, the best for ***I take great pride is seeing my patents and trademarks in the marketplace and in seeing my clients successful.Even though *** received two extremely high quality patent applications and even though he never paid me my entire agreed upon-fee, I withdraw my comment to him that he is a deadbeatI simply do not understand what else *** wants.Respectfully yours,

Review: [redacted]. Grant, Esq. (dba Grant Patent Services) is an intelligent, educated, arrogant and pompous attorney that can get the job done if it is on his own sketchy timetable. His work with large corporations and on the lecture circuit may be impressive but his interaction with the small business owner is less than professional. His organizational skills are shabby for someone who should be precise, methodical and thorough.**. Grant does not review all materials that are given to him; he presumes to know what is needed for your new product with cursory evaluations being sufficient. **. Grant was paid $700 for a patentability search of my product in October 2013 yet delivered physical results in March 2014. **. Grant was paid $3000 to start both a Utility Patent and a Design patent in October 2013 based on anecdotal results from the patentability search. The project was touted as being approximate 30-days yet he delivered in March 2014 telling his client to fix the typos and mistakes in his draft submittal. When **. Grant is held accountable for incomplete, shoddy and tardy work (and advises him that he will not be paid the balance of $1700 until the work is completed) he gets abusive by insulting his client in emails with such comments as DEADBEAT, PETTY, PATHETIC, ANGRY LITTLE MAN." He subsequently advised his client to find another patent attorney but recanted that same day.A 30-day task took him nearly 5 months to complete. Although **. Grant decided by his own accord to forgo receiving the balance due, after he was advised that a refund for incomplete services would be sought, there is a 125-page complaint (with all supporting documentation) on file with the US Patent and Trademark Office of Disciplinary Hearings. This complaint outlines [redacted] Grants inconsistencies with USPTO ethical standards and standards of professionalism. *. Grants standards of conduct are unbecoming of any organization. Proceed with caution!Desired Settlement: A written apology for his conduct and ideally an improvement plan so that other clients are not subjected to his current practices.

Response:

April 23, 2014Dear **. [redacted]:This is in response to the complaint of [redacted].**. [redacted] was supposed to pay me $6200 for a patent search, a utility patent application, and a design application. **. [redacted] received a patent search (of which he originally waived the written report), a 19 page utility patent application, and he received the design application. The applications were of the highest quality, and will most likely result in **. [redacted] will receive two patents.Unfortunately, **. [redacted] refused to pay $2500 of his invoice. The invoice had been cut to $1900 upon payment within 30 days of the first payment of $3000 (plus $700 for the search), but he failed to meet the deadline for the second payment. He refused to pay his bills. He was an extremely nasty, abusive, and threatening man, and I finally completed the project without the rest of the payment to get rid of him. All work was done in a timely fashion, and would have been completed sooner had he paid his bills.Hence, **. [redacted] is complaining even though he received all of the work, and even though he failed to pay his bills for services rendered.**. [redacted] has a long history of not paying for services and products. I have attached an online investigative report of **. [redacted], performed after he refused to pay my invoice. Please note on pages 15-17 that **. [redacted] has a long history of bankruptcies and judgments against him for failing to pay his bills. He is a businessman’s nightmare. Please call me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-#### (cell) if you have any questions or comments.Respectfully yours,[redacted]. Grant
