Grant's General Contracting Reviews (%countItem)

This is part of an e-mail to the company with my complaint.
"These are some of my concerns...estimate sheet being used as contract between both parties, unwilling to provide cost brake down of project, cleanup crew removing stakes for building layout so building placement has to be re-measured and staked out again, customer being asked for measurements of building layout in relation to road/house, cleanup crew moving burned car into middle of driveway instead of moving to side of driveway near rocks as customer stated in earlier conversation , person sent out on the morning of July 29, 2019 to stake out building layout was told to go 30' from property line (we discussed and I paid extra for a nonconforming permit to be closer that 30' from property line). Upon further conversation and questions asked of Robert (person who came out on July 29) he told me he knew nothing about my contract with you. Robert told me that he would be doing the pole building for me because you were very swamped. He stated that you help each other out when you get busy. I have a real issue with that. Robert is not an employee of yours he is the owner of ***.
From the beginning there seems to be a real communications problem between you and the people you have working for you and in what I am asking for on this project. After the events on the morning of July 29, 2019 I have lost all faith, confidence and trust."

Grants Contracting sent me a charge sheet stating they would keep $6792 of the $20,000 given to him for work done. I am being charged $982 for poles never delivered ( do not even know how many/what kind), $260 for dump load (trailer already 90% full when brought to property), $575 for Robert's looking over engineering/building stake out, plus many other excessive charges. From my view only work done are poles I do not have, burned car in middle of my driveway, e-mail of building diagrams, metal roofing removed from burned barn. Last contact was 11/17/19 that they were thinking about options.

Grant's General Contracting Response • Feb 13, 2020

Grant's General Contracting Inc. responds as follows:Our accounting software labels contracts as Estimate at the top until they become an invoice. From the beginning it was made clear that this was one part of the contract. Inside of the signed contract there are all of the required informations such as payment schedule, signatures between both parties ect…. as well as all state required documentation. I will attach the breakdown sheet that was emailed to the customer after they BREACHED CONTRACT after cancelling contract with no warning or notice that they were unhappy with our services. I expected at least a phone call expressing the customers concerns and a possible chance to satisfy those concerns. After a company and a customer enter into a contract and services are rendered, the customer does not have the right to dictate to the company how much they want to pay or think is fair. After sending the customer our breakdown of services, it was then marked down per line item to reflect the amounts the customer wanted to pay, almost like she was at a garage sale. In regards to me subcontracting any portion of the job, I am allowed by law to do so and do not have to disclose that information. However, if she had asked me, I would have disclosed this. I contracted with a framer to frame the building. I also am required by the state of Oregon to hire a licensed plumber to do the outside plumbing where the hydrant was to be installed. I was then going to do all of the other work including, roofing, sheet metal on building, windows site prep and clean up which I was involved with. We are also not a survey company and are not responsible for locating markers burried in blackberry bushes. We did a rough stake out prior to cleaning the property to see where we would need to be and needed her to tell us where the lines were after that so we could put the building. I don't think this is too much to ask since it is permanent. The customer told me her son was moving out of the home and had I known the daughter would move in shortly after, I wouldn't have parked the debris trailer in that location. As far as debris goes: We had three loads come out of the property. One was a scrap metal load, one was a burned up barn load, and the last was a pickup load of beer bottles scattered through out the property, tires and some concrete. I only charged her the $260 which I thought was more than fair. As far as the poles we purchased and have a receipt for: These were not returnable per the supplier and I was not going to deliver after she has indicated how she would like to pay our company. We have photo documentation to support everything as well as all text messages and emails. I don't think the customer realizes what it takes to haul heavy equipment in regards to fuel, mileage, pick up and delivery time and issues. All of this said, I will be sending her a check this week. Please add customer mark down sheet to my response. Thank you.-- Grant's General ContractingCCB#

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I received a check for $13,208.00 which is what the disagreement is about. The pole barn and farm pump were at a cost of $26,747.26 total. On June 26 Grants Contracting received a check for $20,000.00. The charges are excessive. This business is located 23.5 miles/34 min from the job site according to google maps. I am being charged $982 for pole that have not been delivered (no receipt not know true cost/quantity), $337.50=4.5 hrs/$75 hr for a consult/estimate that over the phone was told it would be free, $900 for engineering (no receipt not know true cost), $225=3 hr/$75 hr to drop off debris trailer at job site, and on and on it goes. This business is about 34 min from the job site but I am being charged for 3 hrs travel time to get there. It is this and other charges that are excessive. On the charge list sent to me via a DocuSign email, attached in these complaints, I was marked down and sent back what I thought was reasonable. The response I keep getting back is take the $13,208 or leave it. I sent that charge list back to company on Oct 28, 2019, no response. Emailed company on Nov 15 regarding the charge list, received response on Nov 17 stating they were thinking about their options and would get back to me within a week. I never heard back.
Sincerely
