*** ***, AgFed, in compliance with the USA Patriot Act and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, is required to maintain policies and procedures that allow our employees to have a reasonable belief they know the identity of the person applying for membership and credit AgFed also has policies in place to prevent identity theft for new and existing accounts (credit and deposit). The manner in which an individual applies for membership and credit plays a factor in how the information is verified After receiving a copy of the driver’s license and membership account form, a notable discrepancy was detected and this led to additional questions/requestsInformation from other financial institutions also plays a role in the credit decision, which our VP of Lending explained to the member. The initial application for a credit card was countered for a lesser amount by the initial underwriterAt that time the processor communicated what documentation was needed to make the final decision on the request After reviewing the credit report and receiving a copy of the member’s driver’s license, paystubs and membership account form, notable discrepancies detected led to additional questions/requests Once the member responded and canceled the loan requests due to being upset by the additional questions, the VP of Lending contacted the member The VP of Lending further explained the reasons for the counter offer and what led to the additional questionsThe driver’s license signature compared to the signature on the account form was noticeably different. The member expressed appreciation for the additional information and at that point the VP of Lending offered to re-evaluate the loan request After some deliberation the member agreed and the VP of Lending re-evaluated the loan requestAs a result of the re-evaluation the VP of Lending spoke with the member to confirm whether new credit was recently received based on recent inquires on the credit report The member confirmed that a new credit card was received from another financial institution for the same amount as originally requested from AgFed The VP of Lending made a counter offer to the member at a lesser amount than the original counter as a resultThe member also needed to update the membership account form due to the signature discrepancy The member said he would consider the counter but later decided against accepting the offer. Finally, AgFed does not place fraud alerts on an applicant’s credit file, and would have to direct you to the consumer reporting agency that you feel has the erroneous information to research the fraud alert. Agriculture Federal Credit Union’s new membership/account opening system screens all applicants for any derogatory information reported by other financial institutions as well as recent activity of the individual that requires additional reviews in order to address potential identity theft or...

fraudulent activity.  One of the indicators is the number of account opening attempts an individual may have within a short time period.  The screening reported there were 41 inquiries made by thirty different financial institutions in your name.  Due to an increase in fraudulent activity through the new account channel, using credit cards it was determined to deny the membership.  The funds were held until November 1, 2016.  At that time a check was issued and mailed to the address the individual used in her inquiry. In addition, an email was also sent to her explaining the Credit Union policy and reasons for its actions.   If you have any questions or need additional information please feel free to contact me. Thank youMargie C[redacted]CEO/President###-###-####
