Great Gas & Oil Reviews (4)

I purchased propane gas from Great Gas & Oil Co. I owned a 100 lb. tank already and I dropped it off at their place of business in order for them to install their equipment and fill the tank. The tank was delivered to my home on March 10, 2015 and hooked-up the tank to my home's gas line. When I say hooked-up, it was not that simple, the service representative performed pressure tests of my home gas line, checked the valves to my fire place, and tested the connections on the tank outside. I appreciated the effort in this service. The gas in the tank lasted, as long as I can recall using it, until mid April as there were still some cold days. Fast forward until 3 November, 2015 when the gas truck came around to fill my tank. The service representative upon my asking informed me that there was about 10-12 gallons of gas remaining in the tank as was evident by the sound and weight of the tank when tilted. He demonstrated this "test" and showed the estimated height of the remaining gas in the tank with hand gesture. I asked about how much gas will fit in this tank to fill it; he replied about 20 gallons. I asked about the longevity of the gas in a tank this size and estimated my use of the gas and the equipment that was running on the gas tank. He suspected that there could be a gas leak but I did not think so since the tank had been installed for over seven months and the tank was not empty. He filled the tank with 19.8 gallons. and departed. I used the fire place that the tank is attached to less than six times since the tank was refilled and on 22 November, 2015 the gas was low to the point that the fire place will not stay lighted. After this finding I inspected the tank outside to find that a brass fitting (maybe a bleeder valve) is only finger tight. My guess is that this could be avoided easily by the service representative conducting an inspection of the fittings on the multivalve that as part of the service fee to refill the tank, I pay for them to maintain. The service representative was I nice guy and he did tell me that it was his first or second week on the job. All this taken in account after three weeks I have no gas. Upon calling the Great Gas & Oil Co service desk/office, I was surprised at the push back and blame on me for what ever the issue was to cause a 100 lb. tank to run empty. All of this talk over the telephone when I am sure a service representative would need to evaluate what ever the issue could be. Equipment that was last touched by a service person could be at fault. I am waiting for an evaluation. I wonder if a gas station attendant didn't put your gas cap back on your car if a similar shift in blame would be appropriate?

Rental Fee For Service Not Rendered. Multiple attempts to contact owner, missing and then reappearing service orders. July 2016 received a bill for a yearly rental on a tank for our fireplace. The rental is charged when they do not come out and fill the tank so many times in a year (as per the technician who comes out to our house). We use our fire place mainly during the holiday season and this past year we were unable to enjoy it from November till the end of January due to a leak in their equipment. They not only had to repair it at the end of January, but a couple weeks after to again repair the line to the tank. We have not used the tank since they FINALLY months later came out to repair the tank and the second time they fixed the tank I am frustrated that we are being charged for something we did NOT even get to use. I spoke to the gentleman who handles their billing, [redacted] in July, August and he has NO record of the service rendered for the faulty line. Today, [redacted] called and informed me that they have a service record for that fix and since it was in January, still during the winter that we could of still used our fireplace. I asked him about the return service date when the technician had to again fix the line and was told there is no record of that. I reminded him that for the last 3 months I have been trying to resolve this issue with their company and there had been no record, until today 9/7/2016 of the first service for fixing the tank. He then informed me that that was "because I was in-concomitant but that today he was not and that when it boils down to it the second service trip is their word vs. mine". I then reminded them that it was my word vs. theirs all along and they just today validated that we DID have someone have to come fix our tank. " He then interrupted me and asked if I was just going to pay the bill or not. I asked him to have his supervisor (the owner) call me. He then informed me that I have until 9/16/2016 to pay. I then asked what is the next step if we do not pay, and he kept replying well I just need to know if you will. I responded with the request for the owner to call me. The other issue aside from the billing issue is that the number that they have listed is rarely answered. Desired SettlementI would like then to adjust the bill to wave the yearly rental since this past year we were unable to use it due to a lack in their services. I am also very concerned that technicians have come out to our house on multiple occasions and there has been no accurate record, or any in some cases that they have visited our home. The business has rectified the issue and waived the fee for services that were charged unfairly

I have done business with company over 30 yrs. ** gas was disappearing from large tank they supplied. Their rep, [redacted], came out, determined we had a gas leak in a line. Charged $147.50 and recommended a new tank instead of new gas line. I trusted him and told him to go ahead with the work. He came, did work and charged $620.09. $100. of this was noted as a "NC permit fee". He furnished no copy of any permit. I called permit office to see why "permit" cost so much. Was informed permit would cost $65., however, NO permit was requested by the gas company. Here he defrauded me out of the $100, never intending to obtain a permit. When I called him about this, he then went to get a permit & said the extra $35. was for his trouble. NOTE: work had already been completed. Inspector came to inspect for permit & gas company's work FAILED. 2 corrections were made, then [redacted] called to have me pay ANOTHER $50 permit fee. I refused because it was his work that had failed & he was responsible for corrections. He said if I didn't pay he would come tear out tank/work we had paid for. I told him not to come on my property without bringing a refund for all we had paid. He then cme onto my property while we were away at [redacted] with a seriously ill daughter and removed tank, etc. We had paid "rent" on the tank. We have paid $767.59 + supplies I purchased from [redacted] and now have no heating gas in our house. I believe this problem all started when [redacted] fraudently charged $100 for a permit he had NO intention of getting. Once he was called on it and on the overcharging of it, he was so angry he tried extorting another $50 fee and when I refused, he trespassed on my property and removed equipment I had paid for and a tank I had rented. I am a senior citizen living on social security and need this heat in my house. In order to get this, I have to pay another company to come do the work I've already paid Great Gas & [redacted] to do. When I told him I was considering suing him, his response was "try it!"Desired SettlementI am filing this report because I have heard [redacted] & Great Gas have taken advantage of other customers and would like the Revdex.com to address this issue with them. As I stated, I believe [redacted] intended to defraud me of the $100 permit fee and angered when caught, tried to extort another $50 because he knew I needed the gas heat in my house. I told him I would pay $15 toward his new $50 charge because he had already overcharged $35 for the permit fee. He would not accept and took my equip.Business Response On 10-1-15 [redacted] did a gas check and found a leak under ground in the pipe, not the tank. Mr [redacted] signed this form acknowledging his satisfaction with stating he was satisfied with the service work performed and cost of $147.50. On 11-2-15 [redacted] set 2 private tanks, installed 2 multi fill valves, installed 40 feet of copper, billed 47 gallons of propane gas, 2 hours of labor, NC Permit Fee($100) totaling $620.09 and Mr [redacted] signed the Work Order [redacted] stating he had read and agreed with job and price and paid it.. I am forwarding to you a signed copy from [redacted] dated 10-30-15 with a signature showing the date of the permit. An inspector came out and did not pass the inspectiondue to the pipe not having a sticker that labeled gas on it and the tanks would need to be secured if they were in a flood zone. We labeled the pipe and Mr [redacted] anchored the tanks, Mr. [redacted] called the Permit Office and found out that this property indeed was in a flood zone and we would have to get a Flood Development Permit for additional $50. When explained to Mr [redacted] he refused to pay this and told us to stay off his property. Mr [redacted] had told us to come get the tank that belonged to us because he had purchased two tanks so he would not have to pay rent on the tank any more. We picked up the 100 gallon tank that belonged to Great Gas on 12-3-15 and refunded by check of $193.90 for gas that was in the tank. Due to Mr [redacted] being in a Flood Zone, was going to require another permit and he did not like that at all. I am mailing to you these documents by mail to document the above.Consumer Response Our complaint stated the leak was found in the line, not in the tank. Also we DID NOT give permission to trespass on our property and remove the large rented tank. The rent was PAID on the tank and we certainly do not have 2 "private" tanks to replace it. That is a complete falsehood. Our complaint is based on the fact that Great Gas (their representatives) told us their plan for this work was what was needed. We agreed to the expense/work solely on their recommendations. We thought they were a professional gas company who did this work for others and SHOULD know the proper procedures (i.e. permits that may be needed, etc.) Our whole complaint and contention is that we relied on their expertise to our detriment. First, they overcharged for the 1st permit and when the job required a second permit (solely because they either didn't know the requirements, and should have, or chose to ignore them), they wanted to pass the cost of the $50 permit on to us. Our position is that first, because we relied on them and their error was the cause of the 2nd permit cost, to be and act as a PROFESSIONAL company concerned with customer service, they should have agreed, as we asked, to take the $35 they OVERCHARGED for the first permit, put $15 with it and secure the needed 2nd permit. Secondly, our position is, had the beginning estimate stated that we would need to pay $65 for 1st permit and $50 for a second permit, we would have agreed. However, Great Gas (their representatives) told us to pay the $147.50 and $620.09 to them and they would complete the objective of having ** gas to our house. We paid this and have NO GAS and NO TANK. Also another example of their fraud, their answer says they installed "40ft of copper" when they only installed 10ft. In summary, most of what they replied to Revdex.com is false and completely distorted. We have never seen a "copy" of ANY permit they supposedly obtained on our behalf. The truth is, this WHOLE matter could have been settled if Great Gas had paid the $15 for the 2nd permit. As we stated in our original complaint,[redacted] became incensed when we checked on the fact that no permit was obtained BEFORE the work was done and that the amount was overcharged by $35. In summation, we have paid a public, supposedly "professional" gas company $767.59 to do the JOB of installing gas tank, valves, line to inside our house, with appropriate permits or whatever was required and relied on them to KNOW what was required. We have received NONE of these products and service. We have NO tanks or gas in our house. We are willing to resolve this if Great Gas will come and do the work we paid them for. If they are not willing to do that, then we want our money back for paying them to do it. This matter can be settled THAT simply. Final Business Response Mr [redacted] told us to remove the tank because he was not going to pay the additional permit fee of $50 for A Flood Development Permit.(Mr [redacted] signed an Equipment Installation and Service Agreement on April 4, 1995 which gives us permission to remove our equipment.) This property is in a flood zone, determined by [redacted] County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and FEMA.I am forwarding to you via mail copies that are discussed above.[redacted]
