Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/11/19) */
I have been in the rare coin business for yearsI am on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Organization of Numismatists, as the Vice PresidentI am a member of the American Numismatist Association, NGC and PCGSI have never
been accused of anything like this before
Three coins were brought into our store for appraisal on October 15, I purchased two coins from himI recommended to the customer that I send the third coin, a $Gold Coin in to have authenticatedI told him it did test as goldI told him I was not confident that the coin was genuineA genuine coin weighs gramsThe customer's coin weighed gramsI advised the customer it would be in his best interest to have me send the coin in for grading/authenticationI advised him the coin was harshly cleaned, but if it was genuine, I could pay him more than buying it as a piece of low grade goldI did not offer him any money for the coinI told him a real $coin had approximately $in goldHe liked the idea and I told him I would pay for the grading fees upfront and deduct them from the purchase price if he accepted my offerThe receipt I gave him also stated the coin was being sent in for authentication
The coin was sent into PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), located in Newport Beach, CA, via insured mailWe always insure all coins sent in via the mail in the event a package is lostThe coin was received by PCGS on October 13th; only five business days after the customer gave me the coinThe coin was determined by PCGS to be counterfeitAll coins from PCGS are returned in a new plastic coin holder
The owner of the coin started telling me on his first phone call to me when checking on its status that he was worried that someone could have switched the coin at the post office or the place I sent it toI assured him that has never happened
I then notified the customer I would have the coin available for him to pick up and without any inspection told me it was not the same coinHe said he had pictures and could prove itHe then wanted to know what I was going to do for himI assured him it was his coin and explained the entire process over again to him and that I was not confident it was not real the first time he was here and that is why we sent it in
He proceeded on calling me a liar in the presence of another customerI asked him to leave the store with his coinI told him he would not like to be called a liar and was asked to leave with his coinI was not even going to charge him the fee for grading the coin of $
He refused to leave the store and said he had no use for his coin and asked what I would pay him for itI told him I really didn't want itHe insistedI offered him $for it because I could not determine the gold content of the coin without damaging itHe quickly said fine, accepted the offer of $275.00, shook my hand and left satisfied
I still have the coin and I prefer to give it backIn a nut shell, I bent over backwards to make sure he did realize the potential of this coin if it was genuine, but unfortunately it is not

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/11/20) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
no thier are holes in his story if I refused to leave the store why he did not call the police you know why because he knew he had done something with my coin yes he said he been in business that long and told him that I was not into this so I trusthed him but my coin had been took out it seal and the seal that he tried to give it back to me in lead me to check and then I knew it was not mine he had not bought it so it should have remained the same way I gave him he was so mean to me that day when I was so calm he should have video of them days and the video would show how intrested he was of this coin that he kept putting to the side and telling I have some good things and it was four coins not three so that tell me their that he's a liar he had told that he was going send the coin out again to radiant whatevery that mean then he would bring some more money then I really knew he was up to something then when he offer in the begining when we did not the whole value but I believe he knew the value I do not want somebody coin he need to own up and give me what he said in the begining

5stars! This company is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend them. It's a great place to get questions answered, and sell your coins. The owners were very respectful, as I have no prior knowledge or value of my coins. Many repeat customers the day I visited. Have a good relationship with repeat customers.
