Rented a unit at Great Value Storage on Kansas City in may of 2018 . In June of 2018 my unit was burglarized and over 10,000 worth of personal property was stolen. In May I opted for the storage content insurance policy the company pushes upon their customers at the time of rental. I was told at that time the policy would be emailed to me along with other paperwork later that day. Well the documents were never emailed and I forgot about it at that time. Well on June 24 I was informed that the units were broken into and that mine was one of them. I arrived at the facility 3 hours later only to find my unit and approx 17 others left wide open with the doors up and the front gate open and disabled. There were no employees on site and it was apparent that the uncaring manager just made a police report and went home. I proceeded to make some observations of my own and in my opinion this had all the indications of an inside job. There are about 10 security cameras on site however none of them captured any video. The coded access gate that is used to enter a personal code upon entry and exit was disabled. After taking pictures of the cameras and gate and the open units I called police only to find out that the manager hadn't reported the vehicle that was in my unit as missing or stolen. I found this very odd because my overhead door was the one of four left completely up with a large empty spot in the unit with an obvious large oil spot on the floor where the car was. While moving my things into storage only 3 people seen the vehicle in my unit. The guy that has the unit two doors up from mine, and the manager that accidently drove by on the golf cart once with a possible renter and I noticed at that time the manager about broke her neck taking a double take as she went by my unit with the would be renter. This action as well as the knowledge of the "crooks" on how to get around two secured gates as well as avoid 10 security cameras that were still pointed in the correct directions to capture video makes me very suspicious of the possibility of the management being involved. Only after the theft was I provided with a policy of the insurance I purchased and it said there was a policy limit of 2000 dollars. So the great value storage has offered me 2000 to replace 10,300 dollars in loss from their obvious and deliberate lack of security as well as their gross negligence of their breach of duty by not securing my unit or anyone else's before the left the property that day. I absolutely refuse to accept 2000 dollars for 10000 worth of property. And what's more even though they by their own admission owe me at least 2000 dollars they continue to call and threaten me that they are going to seize my other belongings if I'm late with the rent. And even better they haven't offered an apology or a credit for the month that they let my unit be burglarized. I would advise against anyone renting here and be cautioned about worthless insurance policy sold at this property or any other properties.

We have attempted to resolve the issues with the tenant. We offered the max payout on her protection policy limit for the rodent damage. However, the tenant has not yet signed the release to accept it. The tenant mentioned applying the claim payout to her GVS account because she did not want to pay...

the back rent owed. We agreed that would be fine, but a release still needs to be signed before the action can occur. Sent on: 4/12/2016 10:30:24 AM

Review: I rented a unit for monthsI stored furniture for an entire apartment in itFurniture was like new, only years oldWhen I tried to empty unit, it was ruined! Mold on everything! Insurance agent said surface water ruined itI did not carry flood insurance, had I taken insurance out through the storage company, they would not of covered me for flood eitherAfter I removed everything ([redacted] could not put into truck because of the mold.) I saw cracks & crevices through out the unit floor, water must of seeped into unit & that's how the water got in! This should of not been rented out! I tried to talk with front office & she would not look at unit with meShe refused to give me any help or phone numbers for corporate officeI tried to talk with Corporate office & they said because I had no insurance through them, they were not responsibleHe said because I had no proof, they already rented out this unit again! I have all kinds of pictures that prove my point! Dry floor, a little rain & floor is damp, heavy rain, floor has puddlesI cannot believe they rented it out again! The next customer will have his stuff ruined also! It's a shame that they can get away with this! I cannot afford a lawyer to fight themThe garage floor was poorly maintained! Thru no fault of mine everything was ruined! I trusted this storage unitTheir ad says "a clean facility in which to safely store belongings" "Secured & protected", many times when I checked my unit, the gate was wide open, I didn't need to put in my code"Professional management" They would not even listen or even look at the unit or pictures with me!! I had to research the internet to find the corporate phone numberShe told me " they were not allowed to give out any numbers" "Peace of mind is there priority" I don't know how they can rent the unit again, knowing when it rains & turns cold, water will seep in & mold will grow! Ruining everything in it! I believe they knew this when they rented me the unitIt just seems unfair.Desired Settlement: I feel better giving this information to the Revdex.comI know the storage unit will not pay for any of my furnitureOr for the truck needed to remove my stuffBut, I would like them to pay me my RENT MONEY for months$[redacted] per month for months would be $[redacted]I really believe the unit should not of been rented because of the floor cracks & crevicesBecause they have rented it out again, tells me they had to of known about these problems & rented it out to me anywayIts just unfair!

Regards,

File in small claims court you can sue them for the value of your furniture when you put it in there they are responsible for your furniture regardless of what their insurance company says you just have to keep their feet to the fire good luck to you don't give up make them pay you. you're exactly right. They knew what problems it had and they rented it to you. The judge will not let them get away with those types of unprofessional business practices. they knew it was messed up. Hiwever, they sold you a unclean undisclosed puddle of problems. Mold kills people. What if you dudnt notice it and put the furniture in your next place w a new born. Or a elderly person. Thats considered a horribly airborne mess. Try not to crumble under pressure. Its wrong what they did . Period. Im nit an attourney but the max amt. In texas small ckaims court is $10,000.00. disgusting. when the next person they rented it out to probably feels exzactly the same as you do. maybe you could put a note on the door and possibly get the attention of the person that rented it before and after you . Then you'll have a stronger case against them. If not dont let them intimidate you. Please don't let them get away with it. they will try to cheat you. File a grevience against the insurance company w state ins board, send out letters to corporate, Revdex.com, and consumer affairs. Also ask them if they ate formiluar with the deceptive Trade Practices Act you might want to read that as well stand up for your rights if you don't nobody will stand up for you it's free you can possibly file for maybe $65 at small claims check it out it may be worth it to you to sue them for the maximum amount . whatever it is worth to you to at least explain it to a judge I say go for it! Let's see what the judge has to say about their excuses!
Good luck God bless you
