Great Western Roofing and Construction Reviews (19)

The warranty was just issued and has been processedWe are working with a third party appraisal company to get the remaining depreciation releasedPlease give us a call so we can resolve this issue

All warranties have been given to the owner and this should resolve any issues

All work that was contracted has been completedHomeowner received full reimbursement from insurance and is holding out monies that is due by contract to Great Western RoofingWe have tried on numerous occasions to resolve this issue with the homeowner to no avail At this time our legal council has been retained to pursue the homeowner for remainder of what is owed

We have a very long and well documented response to this complaint The project was origianlly assessed by the insurance company that would only give Ms [redacted] about half the money to do the roof; although her siding, windows, roof and other structures were completely demolished We fought the insurance company for months on behalf of Ms [redacted] without ever asking for a dime of her money until we got the insurance (over a nine month negotiation) to pay for over $60,of repairs and our contract simply read that we would do the work that we got approved by the insurance company for Ms [redacted] for the price that the insurance paid at no additional cost to her except her $deductible This is a case where we really came to the rescue and were able to add all of the value that the massive hail catastrophe took from the home (that the insurance was originally unwilling to pay for) at no cost to Ms [redacted] When it came time to do the construction she was surprised by the price and we even had the insurance adjuster meet Great Western reps and Ms [redacted] meet at the property to confirm that she was to sign the third party checks endorsed to Great Western and Ms [redacted] over to Great Western upon work completion progress This went along fine and we received the first approx$36k without issue There was an issue with the siding on the left elevation and when we caught it we asked that Ms [redacted] hold, in trust, the final $22,(approx.) in trust until we made the work right which meant redoing the left elevation of the house The customer became evasive and belligerent, constantly agreeing to install dates then sending away our installers, avoiding calls, and attempting to keep the money We now have stopped construction with the only remaining item left is painting the newly repaired left elevation siding for approximately $ We asked that she have the check ready once we confirmed she was happy with the siding repair and the windows and the roofing and she agreed via texts and emails That is when she told us that we would not recieve the check as she believed we were being paid too much We kindly reminded her that this money was approved to be sent from the insurance and the mortgage company even signed off on the check and reissued it into both GWR and Ms [redacted] names The mortgage and insurance companies have made clear that she should pay the bill and turn the check over upon allowing us to complete the minor paint item that is still unfinished as she will not alllow anyone at the property This is clearly an attempt to keep the money for herself that we sometimes run into in the industry We have a large folder of notes containing dates of installs, material purchases, labor payments, texts of agreement and emails to pay from Ms [redacted] and have tried every reasonable avenue to bring this to an amicable and happy conclusion but have run out of options This is now a legal matter and we ask that the Revdex.com go through the project with our GM or owner before allowing this review to be posted We value the Revdex.com and have actually been able to have their reps help us mitigate some of these types of situations in the past We need an intermediary in order for this legal proceeding to end and all parties walk away the better We only pursue matters legally as a last resort and this situation is an especially unfortunate one Thanks, Greg W***Owner303-803-

Complaint: I am rejecting this response because: This is a flat out lieThey and I have the same paperwork from the insurance companyThey did not perform the full scope of workI have pictures to prove and you may come to my home at any time you would like to see in person the work that was not doneIi necessary I will retain a lawyer and sue this company for fraud and harassment Sincerely, [redacted]

On the insurance scope of work as pertains to the gutter, it reads detach and reset of the gutter, not remove and replaceThis is a line item insurance and roofing companies use when when new gutters are not approvedDuring the roofing process, our crews need to work in and around existing gutters
adding new drip edge and can require the gutters to be moved out, realigned and/or reattached as neededGreat Western has offered to send our gutter crew out to the property to fix any leaks at our expense but have not heard from the homeowner if that is agreeable

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/09/24) */
I have contacted the homeowner to work out the details of the remaining workWe are set up to get this taken care of and *** has informed me that when he is fully satisfied he will remove his Revdex.com complaint
Although the roofs on both
properties went on quickly and efficiently, the other work in the claim (i.esiding, windows, etc) was severely delayed due to labor availability with all of the recent hail damage
I called *** and so did our GM *** *** to work this out and our office spoke with him todayI am under the impression that these issues are going to be resolved quicklyI have also extended a $credit to *** for the problems he has patiently endured throughout the course of the process
I would like to note that much of the delay was caused because the insurance companies were dragging their feet on finalizing payment and authorizing the necessary amounts to get the work doneHowever, I do not believe in excusesIt is our responsibility to keep every homeowner/building owner happy and it all starts with good communicationIn this case, we could have done things differently
***, I again would like to apologize to you sincerely for any stress this has caused you and hope that the $will be sufficient to appease you if we can effectively coordinate the remaining workI have been informed it will be taking place starting next weekThank you for your patience and as always thanks to the Revdex.com for providing a medium for us to appropriately handle issues when they arise!

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me
I would like to respond to *** ***s' response to the original complete though. Let me start out by saying that I was here when the adjustor came out and although we(both *** and I) that he was leaning toward replacing it because of the amount of the damage this was based on several roofing company's opinion not the insurance company denying it. There had been no denial. In fact, even *** was surprised because he told us he thought the roof was o.kand even indicated that part of thinking that was due to the dark color making it hard to discern the extent of the damage. The adjustor told me directly when I spoke to him that part of his decision was the fact that the roof was only 1/years old so we should basically be entitled to a new roof. Also, there was absolutely no free paint job on our house, and I find that laughable. *** sat with my husband and I and told us that there was enough money out of the almost $18,in insurance proceeds to do both the roof and the exterior paint including trim at the time we signed the contract. We went through this entire process back in with a different company after hail damage and basically ended up with the same amount from the insurance company, and they were also able to reroof and paint the house. It was not a free paint job in the case either! With respect to the damage to the gutters initially *** tried to throw their painting subcontractor under the bus when he stood in my driveway and told me that there was no way it was the roofers, it had to be the painters. Even if this had been the case, perhaps as the general contractor it would be best to take the high road and just say that you will take care of it. ***, if you have any questions as to how the gutters were damaged by the roofers, ***(from the painting company) provided a very thorough explanation to me when he was out here after I informed him that supposedly his painters had damaged the gutters. I could go on and on about the issues along the way including the fact that we were told absolutely 100% that the rood would be completed by a certain date because we were leaving to go out of town and did not want the person staying at our house to deal with the disruption while we were gone. Well, guess what, the night before *** calls me telling me that there was going to be a delay and they would start until the day we were flying out of town. I told him this was not acceptable and that we were told it would be started in time to complete before we left. Once the new roofing crew showed up he gave me a totally different reason or the delay and informed me that the other roofing crew had come by the prior week and said they would not complete the roof due to the steep pitch. This was never communicated to us by the company as the reason for the delay. Furthermore, it is my understanding that it was not even one of their regular crews doing the work. Lastly, I would like to respond to ***'s frustration with the fact that I filed this complaint. I am incredulous that you were surprised and basically offended as I have you as well as *** and *** ample opportunities to contact us over the two weeks prior to filing and no one including yourself would return my or ***'s calls. I reviewed my phone log over those two weeks and starting the day after Labor Day until September 19th no one would get back to us. I even called you a full week prior to filing and left you a voicemail message indicating that I would be proceeding with filing a complaint if no one would return our repeated calls regarding the outstanding issues. This had absolutely nothing to do with the outstanding payment, and in fact, the final payment had already been issued prior to this time. (The final check was actually issue on September 9th 2016). I am a small business owner myself so I know about treating clients with respect and following though with what I tell them I am going to do and this did not take place in handling this situation. Even the meeting that you did not follow through on coming to where the painter was involved you were able to give him the courtesy of letting him know it was being reschedule but not us. No call, text or anything. In the future, I would suggest that if I client leaves you a message that they are going to file a complaint that you take the time to call them back. The day I filed this complaint (9/19/16) I tried *** one more time and told him that I was drafting the complaint that morning and wanted to give you guys one more chance after two weeks of no response to over phone calls asking for someone to contact us and still he did not return my call. You contacted *** that afternoon and is sounded as if you had no clue that this was going to happen. If that is true then *** did not communicate it to you because you told *** that *** indicated to you that I had called him. If this is how I dealt with my clients I believe that I would be out of business by now.
Sincerely,
*** ***

Again, all work that Great Western is owed for has been completed and City Inspections have passedHomeowner has received full reimbursement from insurance and is holding out monies that is due by contract to Great Western RoofingWe have tried on numerous occasions to resolve this issue with the homeowner to no avail At this time our legal council has been retained to pursue the homeowner for remainder of what is owedGoing forward, Great Western Roofing requests that any and all contact with the Homeowner go through our legal team

I am a bit confused as to why the complaint was issued on this matter because we spoke to the homeowner yesterday about resolving the issues listed above Not only that, but the insurance company didn't want to pay for the roof originally and we were able to use our expertise to get the job
paid for by the insurance in its entirety We also went above and beyond for this customer and got their entire house exterior painted for free! We understand that there are issues with a small amount of ridge vent needing to be installed, a broken basement window, and outward dents to gutter sections which I have never seen before in over reroof Needless to say, we are investigating the cause of the gutter damage and scheduling the ridge vent and basement window reglaze Concessions will be made to make sure all parties are satisfied as this project comes to a close We were waiting on the final check from the insurance company to be released to the homeowner so that we could make the final repairs and receive the final payment simultaneously I am surprised that the homeowner felt the need to post this to the Revdex.com when they have been given every assurance that we stand behind our work and operate with integrity and swiftness to resolve any and all issues that occur during the course of all of our projects BIG or SMALL Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions @ *** Thanks,*** ***PresidentGreat Western Roofing & Construction

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/10/14) */
This complaint was filed because GWRC sent Ms. [redacted] a demand letter requesting payment. Her roof was installed over 2 months ago and we have not received any payment to date. She became very disgruntled over an issue with her deck stain that...

she mentioned in her complaint. The deck stain that GWRC ordered was "waterproofing" not "weatherproofing". Rather than buying all new stain, [redacted] was in hopes that she would work with us and let us use the waterproofing product. The difference in quality is insignificant and he was simply trying to work it out with her. We ended up getting her the stain she requested in order to appease her, however, her personal vendetta against Mr. [redacted] that resulted from this situation has made her extremely difficult to work with. We cannot perform any more work until Ms. [redacted] has paid us in the amount of $8,300.88. As far as the ladder situation with the City of Aurora, we frequently work with them in order to be more efficient in setting ladders. Rather than drive to a customer's home to set a ladder the day prior to inspection, then coming back the day after to pick it up, it is often easier to meet the inspector on sight.Once we receive initial payment we will be able to fix the problems with the stain application.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/10/23) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Payment: Great Western Roofing & Construction (GWRC) has known since July 2015 that they need to send backup documentation to my mortgage company, [redacted] (formerly [redacted] to receive payment. To date, they have failed to provide this documentation to [redacted] despite my many phone and email requests and that is the reason they have received no payment. [redacted] my mortgage company, is holding the insurance payment pending receipt of the following documentation from the contractor: W-9, written detailed estimate of work completed, itemized invoice for materials/labor for completed work and lien waiver to complete final payment on completed work. These are standard requirements for contractors. The address and or fax GWRC needs to send the documentation to is: [redacted] attn: Claims, [redacted] XXXXX-XXXX or fax X XXX XXX XXXX, or street address: [redacted] SD XXXXX, note: Acct#, Claim#. I have email proof that I notified GWRC with this information which they have had for over 3 months. If GWRC is unwilling or unable to provide required documentation and backup for their work, this stops the payment approval process and they know this.
GWRC needs to send me a detailed invoice/backup for their work completed properly and according to standard workman practices. Adjustments to their billing needs to be made for work done improperly on my decks and smearing deck stain on my aluminum house siding.
Deck work issues with contractor: GWRC does not want to accept responsibility for their error in ordering stain other than what they promised to use. They tried to harass me into accepting it - I refused. They refused to do the deck prep which they promised to do and which cost they included in their September estimate to the insurance company. GWRC knows they did not do this work but it appears they are hoping to get paid for it. The decks started to blister and peel one month after they were stained and continue to do so. Deck stain was also smeared on my house siding. I notified GWRC of these issues and sent supporting photos. They have had three months to resolve these issues but have refused to take any action and offered no customer service. It is untrue that there was an insignificant difference in the deck stain GWRC ordered versus what we agreed they would use. [redacted] the GWRC project mgr. for my hail claim, specifically instructed me to go to [redacted] to find a deck stain. [redacted] recommended Behr Premium Redwood Solid Color Weather Proofing all in One Stain & Sealer. This is specially formulated to withstand harsh weather such as extreme cold, heat, hail, etc. and last up to 10 years. [redacted] told me this is what would be used on my decks and that was our agreement. The damage being repaired to my decks was from hail and the purpose was to choose a product that best prevented a future recurrence. GWRC ordered the wrong stain. They ordered Behr Redwood Solid Color Redwood Waterproof Wood Stain. According to [redacted] there is a very significant difference between the Waterproofing stain and the Weatherproofing stain which provides much stronger and longer durability. GWRC tried to harass me into accepting it and I refused. [redacted] said he was too busy to be bothered by minor, insignificant details like making sure the agreed upon materials were ordered and adhering to agreed upon procedures like prepping my deck. [redacted] refused to do the promised deck prep saying it was "unnecessary" and "too expensive". Delivering the agreed upon materials and services and attention to detail is exactly what reputable, quality contractors deliver Regarding roof inspection and ladders - Around mid September, I contacted GWRC about roof inspection and warranty. GWRC said it would take 6-8 weeks to arrange an inspection. I called [redacted] Building Dept. & got it arranged in shortly over a week. I informed GWRC on 9/21 of the planned inspection on 9/24. They said they would provide ladders on 9/23. They failed to provide the ladders as promised and failed to notify me of any change in plans although they had plenty of time to do so. No response on warranty.
I believe GWRC is trying to obscure and minimize their incompetence and poor work performance to receive more money than their performance merits. They offer excuses and try to shift blame for their lack of quality work and customer service. I believe GWRC has demonstrated that I cannot trust them to deliver promised/ agreed materials and services and therefore, I do not want them to do any further work. We can reach resolution and payment if GWRC provides [redacted] with required documentation and gives me an itemized invoice/back up with adjustments for the deck and siding work which I have to have repaired/refinished. GWRC claims I am refusing payment and threatens me with collections and liens but they have never sent me a written work estimate or detailed invoice. They demand money but take no effective action to provide back up for their claims or respond to my many emails to them to resolve issues. Documentation for payment needs to be sent to me and Ditech Financial LLC. GWRC will receive payment for properly completed work. I sincerely belief GWRC is a sub-standard contractor with very questionable business ethics and are far, far below the A+ rating in Revdex.com. I want to resolve a final payout for roof and decks and end this matter. GWRC talk of "appeasing" a difficult client and vendettas is nonsense. They need to provide documentation, adjust for bad work and cooperate in arranging final payment.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2015/11/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Great Western Roofing and Construction (GWRC) and their "legal department" will not provide a bill for the roof they want to be paid for. They will not provide a W-9 required by my mortgage company to authorize payment. They have not provided these documents required for payment and continue to ignore requests for them. They botched the job on my deck staining and had since July to make an effort to correct the problems but did nothing and, ignored my many requests to resolve. GWRC threatens a lien but will not send a bill or W9 to get payment. What legitimate business refuses to provide a bill for their work? Their past work incompetence, unreliability, unresponsiveness, harassment and outright lies have left me with no trust of GWRC. I backed my Revdex.com complaint with attached documents and photos. If GWRC came up with an itemized bill to back up their payment demands, I need a copy as I have NEVER received anything to substantiate their claims. To initiate payment resolution, GWRC must provide my mortgage company, [redacted] with a W9 and an itemized bill for completed work to me and [redacted] No issues have been resolved.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2015/11/23) */
It is our understanding that our legal team has in fact sent all requested paperwork to Ms. [redacted]. Again, we acknowledge that there were issues with her deck staining but the homeowner refused our initial request to come back out and make it right. We are trusting our legal department to come up with a suitable and fair resolution that both parties can agree on.

We have spoken to the homeowner and are addressing her remaining issues. We have a representative going to her property today in fact. We have expressed to all of our customers that with a storm this size, some trades do take longer due to high demand for both supplies and subcontractors.

The warranty was just issued and has been processed. We are working with a third party appraisal company to get the remaining depreciation released. Please give us a call so we can resolve this issue.

All warranties have been given to the owner and this should resolve any issues.

I am rejecting this response because:
This is a flat out lie. They and I have the same paperwork from the insurance company. They did not perform the full scope of work. I have pictures to prove and you may come to my home at any time you would like to see in person the work that was not done. Ii necessary I will retain a lawyer and sue this company for fraud and harassment
Sincerely,

We have a very long and well documented response to this complaint.   The project was origianlly assessed by the insurance company that would only give Ms. [redacted] about half the money to do the roof; although her siding, windows, roof and other structures were completely demolished. ...

We fought the insurance company for months on behalf of Ms. [redacted] without ever asking for a dime of her money until we got the insurance (over a nine month negotiation) to pay for over $60,000 of repairs and our contract simply read that we would do the work that we got approved by the insurance company for Ms. [redacted] for the price that the insurance paid at no additional cost to her except her $1000 deductible.  This is a case where we really came to the rescue and were able to add all of the value that the massive hail catastrophe took from the home (that the insurance was originally unwilling to pay for) at no cost to Ms. [redacted]. When it came time to do the construction she was surprised by the price and we even had the insurance adjuster meet Great Western reps and Ms. [redacted] meet at the property to confirm that she was to sign the third party checks endorsed to Great Western and Ms. [redacted] over to Great Western upon work completion progress.  This went along fine and we received the first approx. $36k without issue.   There was an issue with the siding on the left elevation and when we caught it we asked that Ms. [redacted] hold, in trust, the final $22,000 (approx.) in trust until we made the work right which meant redoing the left elevation of the house.  The customer became evasive and belligerent, constantly agreeing to install dates then sending away our installers, avoiding calls, and attempting to keep the money.  We now have stopped construction with the only remaining item left is painting the  newly repaired left elevation siding for approximately $600.  We asked that she have the check ready once we confirmed she was happy with the siding repair and the windows and the roofing and she agreed via texts and emails.  That is when she told us that we would not recieve the check as she believed we were being paid too much.  We kindly reminded her that this money was approved to be sent from the insurance and the mortgage company even signed off on the check and reissued it into both GWR and Ms. [redacted] names.  The mortgage and insurance companies have made clear that she should pay the bill and turn the check over upon allowing us to complete the minor paint item that is still unfinished as she will not alllow anyone at the property.  This is clearly an attempt to keep the money for herself that we sometimes run into in the industry.   We have a large folder of notes containing dates of installs, material purchases, labor payments, texts of agreement and emails to pay from Ms. [redacted] and have tried every reasonable avenue to bring this to an amicable and happy conclusion but have run out of options.  This is now a legal matter and we ask that the Revdex.com go through the project with our GM or owner before allowing this review to be posted.  We value the Revdex.com and have actually been able to have their reps help us mitigate some of these types of situations in the past.  We need an intermediary in order for this legal proceeding to end and all parties walk away the better.  We only pursue matters legally as a last resort and this situation is an especially unfortunate one.  Thanks, Greg W[redacted]Owner303-803-2148
