Greater Chicago Motors Reviews (%countItem)

We purchased a 2011 ***-*** from Greater Chicago Motors in Glendale Heights IL on June 12, 2019 and were provided with a temporary registration card that was valid for one month. At the time of purchase, we were told the only thing required for registration was a physical inspection of the vehicle. We drove to the BVM and had the car inspected on June 13, 2019 and immediately attached the VIN verification to an email and sent it to Chad ***, Greater Chicago Motors Finance Director, as requested.

On June 27, 2019, I sent off another email trying to find out where the license plates and registration were and received a reply that said: "Normally it takes up to 30 days to get the plates in the mail, if you don't get the plates in the next 9 days contact Shirley and she will email you another 30 days extension."

Then on July 8, 2019, when the paper plates were about to expire, Shirley *** sent me an email requesting more money with an explanation of the charges. She wrote that, "... there is a shortage of $102.44. We collected a total of $1,489.59 for titling and registration. Below there is a breakdown of the fees;
Sales Tax- $1,377.46
Title Fee- $15.00
Allen County Excise Tax- $31.67
Fort Wayne Municipal Tax- $31.67
Regular Vehicle Excise Tax- $99.75
Infrastructure Improvement- $15.00
Plate Fee- $21.35"

After receiving her email, I reviewed the documentation that we signed at the dealership. It lists the following charges:
Sales tax- $1,396.49
License fees and title transfer- $93.10
License, title, and tax fees- $1509.59
Document fee- $179.81
CVR fee- $270.00
The total of these items are: $3448.99.

After numerous emails back and forth, Greater Chicago Motors finally agreed to pay the disputed amount. However, as of 7/22/2019 we still have not received the car's license plates and registration.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

As I indicated in my original complaint, the car was purchased on June 12, 2019. According to the BMV, Greater Chicago Motors has 45 days to pay the title and registration fees. I spoke with them this afternoon and was told that the transaction is still pending.

Additionally, we asked Shirley *** to send us another temporary registration card on 7/22/2019. My husband received an email from Chad *** that said, “I will get with Shirley and let you know.” As of 7/23/2019 we still have not heard back from Chad or Shirley.

Sincerely,

Kristin

Sorry Shirley Did drop the ball on the second 30 day temp tag ,I had her resend it and yes we have 45 days,we got 3 days left and we are expecting the dmv to finalize by Friday.

I don't know how this dealer has not been investigated for less than acceptable consumer protections, and business practices. The finance manager sold me a $3000. 00 after market ins. policy, and when I realized they were not going to pay for repairs in a timely matter, I went back to Chicago Greater Motors, and was suppose to get a full refund as it was under 30 days of protection. The Ins. policy co. returned the money a month ago and C.G.M. has yet to send the refund to my finance co, and have been giving me a run around with why the have not sent the refund. I would never buy from this co. again. Beware of finance scams. from them.

Even though I didn't purchase the vehicle I initially was interested in, the entire encounter with this dealership was impeccable. The owner and his salesman were helpful, patient and respectful. As an individual with autobody and mechanical knowledge, I highly recommend this dealer.

Very dissatisfied with there refusal to refund gap insurance on a car we bought from them October 2016. We initially financed it through C Auto but then paid it off December 2017 C Auto sent us a letter informing us to contact the dealer for a refund of unearned charges. We started requesting a refund of the gap insurance shortly thereafter via phone conversations with Shemica at Greater Chicago Motors. She requested we fax the letter from C Auto regarding this as well as the gap insurance info. and she would check into it. This was faxed to her on 01/10/2018. ***y around 04/04/2018 we call again as no response from Shemica. She says she didn't get this. We refax all info including fax confirmation that they did get it, to her . We contact her again and she tells us she's not been able to get it completed but hopes to be able to soon.. This goes back-and-forth for a couple of months then she said she had to have the check approved. In October she tells us that the check has been approved and then it's being sent out that day. Three weeks go by and we still don't have the check . we call her again she says the checks being mailed out that day we ask what the amount is she says something about $379. Today is November 26 2018 we have been calling every week only to be disconnected or we have left voicemails for her that she refuses to respond to. We have been re-directed to contact Chad and we have left him voicemail messages and he does not respond to us either.

Inventory model they are back selling. I purchased this vehicle and it had oil leaks everywhere. Soon as it was pulled off the shipping truck it was smoking. Took the vehicle to the Mercedes-Benz dealer and they proceeded to tell me how the engine had been messed with and the engine has been put back together with parts that don’t belong. Along with wires frayed which could cause an electrical fire. I call the dealer and get the run around. I’m told by the owner to find a cheaper mechanic to make the fixes. The vehicle was only taken back by them after I threatened to get my attorney involved. What’s sad is they were trying to hold my down payment until I signed an NDA so I couldn’t write about them. I told them I wouldn’t be signing anything when it comes to bad business. They reluctantly repaid me after me having to levy more threats. Buy at your own risk!!! They are horrible to you after your purchase.

I unfortunately purchased a car from Greater Chicago Motors, I found the car I was looking for and love it( no thanks to Greater Chicago Motors ) they just happened to have it . The deal was made and that was fine, its what happened afterwards that's the problem. I live in Ca. so the car was to be shipped, we made a deal that it would be delivered in a closed trailer since it is a high end car and wanted to avoid any problems. After about a month of trying to get a ship date ( I actually had to make a payment on a car I never received) I finally was able to get a date of delivery, when the car arrived it was on the back of a open trailer full of road grim and grit, the back tires were completely bald and the odometer had 715 miles more on it then when it was purchased, I do not claim to be a lawyer but in Ca that's considered odometer fraud. I now know why I never got a delivery date, they were still driving the car after it was sold and didn't know when they would stop driving someone else's car so they couldn't tell me. I hope other potential buyers see this and take this into consideration before buying, these guys are not a reputable car dealership at all.

Purchased a BMW from Chicago Motors. A very bad decision. I was completely sold a lemon; All salesmen are ***, so I'm too familiar with the BS from the desk worker. The major problem is they do not inspect nor have knowledge of fixing cars that they receive. Their mechanics do not have the knowledge to fix BMWs, as I had multiple trips to their facility for the same repairs, only to have my car transferred to a BMW Dealership by them due to their lack of skill. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty, and was able to have my car fixed at *** (Transmission and Engine problems 6 months from purchasing the vehicle of only at 53k miles), if it wasn't for that, I would be stuck with a High *** problem. Never purchase vehicles from there!!! Prices are outrageous for what they offer, better off going to an actual BMW dealership that is reputable. Exotic cars with Expensive problems that they don't know how to fix.

My experience and feelings are similar to the review below. I had to go back many times and my maintenance issues are more expensive. On my newly purchased 2011 $15,000 BMW -The brakes were all rusted, the struts were shot and a service engine light keep coming on. Obviously if I weren't mislead about the condition of the car I would not have bought it. I didn't get the second key. They didn't give me the special lug nut that allow me to fix a flat. The car seems as if it were underwater. If you are looking for a Car don’t buy it there.
It looks like my experience was not alone. The.Other reviewer said...
The worst used car purchase in my life. Very unprofessional, very rude. The manager Wally is the typical "used car sales man". He tries very hard to show that he is professional, it's the exact opposite. They lie about everything. I bought a *** and it made noise, took it to a *** dealership where they told me it's a 2000 dollars fix! They tried to keep a copy of the keys, and when I noticed that and confronted them, the salesman lied and told me that it needed battery replacement and that they already sent it to the technicians (which of course was a 5-year-old-boy-style lie). The repair was finally made by them after I drove 2 times back and forth to Chicago (2 hour drive each way). I know for sure that unless I paid them using a check and unless I called the bank immediately to stop the check I would have never got anything done based on the way Wally was dealing with me. I felt that I was dealing with a Chicago gangsters, not a respected auto company. The car needed windshield wipers replacement, they refused to replace them. They also ran my credit on 4 different loaners without my permission, although I paid the whole amount using a credit card and a check. When I bought the car the gas tank was almost empty, they never filled it. Save yourself the headache, go somewhere else. Specially if you are buying a high end car, which costs a lot of money. This business should close and I expect it to go bankruptcy in the near future if they stay the same way of treating customers.

I have been communicating with a sales person at Greater Chicago Motors, regarding the purchase of a vehicle, after negotiating price he informed me and I saw on the paperwork that was sent to me prior to purchasing the vehicle a $299 fee for theft recovery from ***. I specifically said to Brian *** (the salesman) that I didn't want this and he communicated to me it was mandatory on all of their car sales. In other words I didn't have a choice. In the contract it clearly states in fine print this fee is not mandatory. Yes I missed it on the paperwork as I was sitting there but verbally was told if I wanted the car I would have to pay for it so I wasn't really looking for this in the paperwork. I was told I didn't have a choice. I am asking for a refund of this fee and a cancellation of this product. This was a very deceptive sales practice and I was absolutely taken advantage of in this situation. I have emailed them with no response as of yet. It has been within 24 hours of purchasing this vehicle and feel they can make this situation right. This was just not right.

Greater Chicago Motors Response

Customer purchased a vehicle Saturday morning that included the *** Anti-Theft Program. The item was disclosed to the customer 24-48 hours prior to purchasing and upon when delivering the car to the customer. The customer agreed and we discounted the vehicle to help the customer with the cost making the entire transaction affordable. The customer was not mis-led or the product was never mis-represented in any way. The charges are valid and were accepted by the customer. Thank you.

Customer Response

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:Yes I was misled, Greater Chicago Motors stated to me I had no choice but to accept the $299 charge for the *** theft recovery plan. After inspecting the paperwork more closely after the deal it states the customer does not have to purchase this plan in order to purchase this vehicle. That is exactly the definition of misleading the consumer!

Sincerely,

Thomas
