The roof for Mrand Mrs [redacted] was completed around the first week of October and everything was settled on the project shortly thereafter Upon completion I did a walk around the house with the homeowner and he stated that he was very happy with the project but had few minor details that he wanted to have addressed In addition, the disposal container that we had for the roof was to be left in the driveway for undetermined amount of time at the request of the homeowner so that he could utilize it for some interior projects he was doing With respect to the roof details, they included replacement of a small section of gutter, installing some caulk in a couple areas where he had concerns that insects may enter and couple other minor roof related details none of which negatively impacted the roof but in an effort to keep the customer happy I agreed to personally take care of each of themIn addition, Mr [redacted] had two non-roof related items that we discussed the first of which was regarding re-attaching a couple pieces of j-channel that were against the wall above the garage roof and the second was bending up some custom bent aluminum that the homeowner wished to install above his garage door to fix some compromised wood trim around his garage doorI explained to Mr [redacted] that I would be in his area at some point either later that week or early the following week to take care of the roof issues and gutter.I also explained that while I would be happy to take care of re-attaching the j-channel above the garage roof it would be best to have one of the siding guys handle that and I would coordinate that with a time in which I would also have the metal brake on my truck and could have the metal bent for around his garage door At that time I also explained that the j-channel repair and metal would be done as soon as we were able to but at the time we were behind on siding work and would have to wait until we were either caught up or possibly in between jobs and could have the metal brake on the truck and have a siding person available At that time, I told Mr [redacted] that I would hope to take care of the metal and j-channel at some point over the next month or so I also explained to him that j-channel was purely an aesthetic issue and did not impact the roof in any way since there was ice and water protective shield and step flashing that was installed along the wall that was protecting the roof In addition, I also stated that since he was understanding about the j-channel and a pleasure to work with that I would be happy to bend up the metal for him for around the garage door as a courtesy to him.Subsequently, I stopped out to Mr [redacted] house during what appears to be the week of October 16th and took care of the roof issues and replaced the gutter and upon doing so I also told Mr [redacted] that I hope to be out his way to take care of the j-channel and bend the metal the following week or week after I also had the dumpster picked up at his house per his request on I believe November 1st and got a text on November 2nd thanking me The last contact that I had with Mr [redacted] was by phone from a call I received from him either the first or second week of November in which he was inquiring about when I would be out with the siding person to fix the j-channel and I explained to him that we were still behind on the schedule but that I would get it taken care of and hoped to do so over the next couple weeks In viewing my phone I see one text message dated November asking about status and I believe that may have also been the evening that we last spoke since I did recall receiving a text message and then talking with Mr [redacted] before I responded to it The next text message is dated November which quite honestly I probably missed since that was the Saturday before Thanksgiving it appears and I was either travelling that day or was already in Philadelphia for the holiday since the weather for the week of Thanksgiving was not good in Rochester In checking my phone log I do not show any calls from Mr [redacted] number since November and that is the furthest date that my phone allows me to look back, so it does not appear any attempts were made outside of the one text since that date by Mr [redacted] to contact meI still have every intention on taking care of the j-channel and look forward to doing so At this moment I have about a week left on the last siding job of the season and I have continued to be behind with the siding work since probably June Upon completion of the last siding job the rest of the the season will be dedicated to all remaining siding related miscellaneous projects of which Mr [redacted] work will be completed In the meantime, the loose j-channel is in no way negatively impacting the roof which as I stated above is already protected with ice and water shield underlayment and step flashing regardless of whether the wall is covered in siding or completely exposed

I am responding to the complaint filed by Ms*** regarding a vinyl siding issue that she says occurred when I replaced the roof on her home at *** *** *** *** ** *** I completed a roof replacement for Ms*** in September 2016. The roof was a second layer
installation over her existing roof and did not require any areas of the roof to be removed. Upon completion of the roof she stated that she noticed two pieces of siding above her front porch that were damaged. The pieces were located about three feet above the porch roof and about a foot below the overhang of the roof above. The damage to the siding was limited to two quarter sized areas of missing siding directly above one another where the siding panels lock together as they are installed going up the wall. Both areas did not have any markings or scratches and appeared to be from something that was attached to the upper gutter and broke the siding as it fell down from the house and was very consistent with icicle damage. At first, Ms*** asked if this was something that could have been done when the roof was installed and I told her that it was not likely anything that could have been done when the roof was replaced and based on the damage and where it was located on the wall I speculated that it was most likely done by an icicle or something of that nature. I also explained that because I just went over her current roof with a second layer installation no contact would have been made with the siding and in all my years I had never encountered a situation where the siding was actually damaged during a roof replacement such as this. Upon explanation Ms*** seemed to be satisfied with the explanation and we agreed to meet that weekend to present her with final paperwork and settle on the projectThe next time I met with Ms*** she began to insist that the damage to the siding was most definitely done when the roof was replaced and she even claimed she had pictures taken days before the roof was done showing the siding in that area was not damaged. At that point in an effort to satisfy the customer I agreed to fix the broken siding pieces for her as a courtesy to maintain a good relationship with her and most importantly maintain a good reputation in her neighborhood where I have done a significant amount of workIn terms of repair and replacement options I told Ms*** that the most ideal situation would be to match the exact siding and color and simply remove the damaged panels and replace them with new panels. However, I explained to her that the siding style that she had was known as “dutchlap” and that it was a style that was very popular at the time the house was built but had since gone into limited production with some siding companies but that I would see what is available in our area. I also explained that because the current siding had been installed on the house for a number of years that even if we matched the exact manufacturer and color that there may be a noticeable color difference between the new siding and the current siding. As a result, I also told her that another option may be to remove a current piece of siding from a less noticeable area of the house and use that piece to replace the damaged pieces and then replace that piece with new siding if it could be matched or install the damaged pieces in the less conspicuous area. Upon explanation, Ms*** said that she understood the dilemma of matching new siding to existing siding and she was ok with any of the options but was hopeful we could match the sidingIn meeting with my local supplier, we were able to determine the particular siding that was used by Ryan homes at the time the house was built. As a result I was able to pin point the siding manufacturer and exact color. However, the actual manufacturer was no longer in existence and had since been acquired by a company that was later acquired by another company. However, none of the current siding colors made for a good match with the existing faded siding and this lead to a number of back and forth trips with colors that seemed to be a close match to the small sample piece that I had taken but when seen with larger sections of the house it was not a good match. After several failed attempts the local supplier actually reached out to a sales representative of the siding manufacturer and despite the various acquisitions they were able to match the current color coding with a current color. However, despite the color match the color differential between the current siding on her house and the actual color of the new siding was still significantly different due to fading over time and exposure to UV rays. As a result, when I arrived with the new siding to do the repair and did a further comparison it seemed that the best option was to repair the damaged pieces by taking existing siding from another area of the house and replace the removed piece with new siding on a less noticeable area. However, upon attempting to install the new siding the existing siding did not want to interlock properly with the new siding and I replaced the missing siding with the damaged siding pieces. The repair itself was done in early November and upon completion I received an email from Ms*** indicating that she was pleased with the repair and she did a walk around the entire house and everything looked fine but she did notice that the small sample piece that I had of the siding was still missing. I replaced the sample when I was in the area a couple days later and at that time I presumed the matter was completed to her satisfaction. Subsequently, I did receive an email from Ms*** regarding a plumbing issue that she thought could have been related to the roof project but it was a fairly common problem that occurs in most homes and not related to the roof in any way and upon explanation she hired a plumber who fixed the issue and verified it was not roof relatedSince November I do not receive any phone calls or emails from Ms*** regarding the siding until notice of this complaint. Having received this complaint I will be happy to remove the siding on the side of the house that customer is requesting be replaced and install similar style siding that will be matched as close to the original color of her current siding as possible. I do not feel that this is a warranty issue as Ms*** has stated since the warranty that was involved only covered issues resulting from problems that were related strictly to roof issues. As such I did not breach any warranty and the siding work in question was actually done in an effort of good faith

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
The reason why I have rejected this response is that I still have not been contacted by Greater Rochester Roofing to schedule the repair I have not received any correspondence from *** in over weeks He did not call me back or text on the 16th and I did call him the same day the complaint was submitted I ended up providing the required flashing over my garage The flashing was something that he was going to help me out with above and beyond the roof However, it is an example of the lack of communication and the amount of time it takes to try and get something taken care of I waited weeks and couldn’t wait any longer with the weather changing I plan to keep this complaint open until all repairs have been completed.Regards,

On January 5, I filed a complaint with Revdex.com, now identified as Revdex.com Complaint ID @***On February 8, Revdex.com forwarded to me a reply from the business owner of Greater Rochester RoofingThe business owner did not address the problem stated in my complaint, and he instead deviated from the main issueFollowing are the facts: (1) Greater Rochester Roofing was to remove and replace two (2) skylights in my home, as part of a total roof replacement contractAs the work progressed Garrett Gildner, the business owner, informed me that he could not find replacement skylights of the same dimensions as the old skylights and that the available ones that are slightly larger would work without any problemI agreed to the installation of the skylights that he suggestedAt the completion of the roofing work, I called the attention of one of the workers to the area around the inside of the skylights, because they needed to be finishedThe worker said that their boss, MrGildner, would be the one to talk to(2) When MrGildner came to me on October 30, for the payment due on the contract, I paid him the full amount due, and at the same time I showed him the unfinished area around the inside of the two skylights that his men had installedI specifically showed him the sloppy work that his men did because they had removed some parts of the old framing and carelessly left some parts of the old framing around the inside of the skylightsMrGildner said that it would take him only a few hours to take care of the problem, but it would be in the next few daysI told him that I am scheduled to leave for a long vacation on November 4, and he said he would not be able to do it before that dateWe then agreed that I will call him as soon as I am back from my vacation around the first week of December, Before we parted, I showed MrGildner some water marks and staining in the ceiling somewhere around the skylights, and I told him I will pay him an extra amount if he would take care of the stains when he returns to finish the inside of the skylights(3) On that same meeting, I took MrGildner to the back of the house and showed him a cracked siding near the upper peak of the houseI told him that his men had damaged the siding during the roofing work, because that crack was definitely not there beforeHe said he would have one of his men replace the damaged siding, and he asked permission to have the man enter the premises in my absenceI gave permission and asked that he instruct the man to please close the gate after himWhen I returned from my vacation, I found the damaged siding as it was(4) When I returned home from vacation on the first week of December, 2015, I called up MrGildner and was unable to contact him, so I left a messageI called him up several more times and I left a message each time, and I never received a responseI also e-mailed him a couple of times, and he never respondedFor this reason I decided to file a complaint with the Revdex.comIn his reply to Revdex.com, MrGildner did not address the main problem, as can be gathered from my original complaint (Revdex.com complaint ID #***) and MrGildner's reply to that complaint
Repair damage caused by the contractor, and finish the job as promised by the contractor

As I previously stated in my initial response I will be happy to make sure that the siding above the garage roof is removed and properly re-attached tight to the surface of the roof at the first opportunity that we are able to do so. At this point we are now dealing with winter weather and do not anticipate doing any work on roof surfaces until probably spring. In the meantime the currently attached siding is still in place and the exterior of the house and roof is fully protected and not compromised in any way.I have not made any direct contact with the customer since he has chosen to involve the Revdex.com in this matter and as such while the matter is still open eliminates any possibility of messages or correspondence directly between us being missed or not received if messages are left by either of us

Dear Revdex.com,I received notice of the complaint by Mrs*** and am responding to said complaint belowMy company was contracted to do a complete roof replacement at the residence of Mrand Mrs*** in October and completed said project in full at the end of
October. As part of the project we removed and replaced two skylights that had been leaking prior to being replaced. At the time that I met with the customer on October 30th to present the final paperwork and warranty she invited me inside to the area where the skylights were located and showed me some water marks and staining around the inside of the skylights and on her ceiling and asked if I would be willing to assist with painting the stained areas and stated that she would be willing to pay additional for the painting. I told her that it was not necessary to pay me anything additional and that I would try to take care of it relatively soon. She then informed me that she was supposed to be away for an entire month starting the first week of November and that the work had to be done no later than the upcoming week cause she would be away after that. In addition, I also did a final walk around with Mrs*** on October 30th and both her and I had noticed a couple areas of siding that needed to be re-attached to the house as well as a piece that was cracked near the upper peak of the house. I instructed that although none of it was caused by the roof replacement I would be happy to take care of it as a courtesy to her in appreciation of the work. Once again she said that she would be happy to pay for it and I told her that it was not necessary We had made arrangements to have me stop back the following week to take care of both matters. Unfortunately, the following week we experienced rain the first several days and was not able to return before the customer left for her vacation. The customer left a message the following Wednesday from what I recall stating that she was leaving for vacation and stating that it was alright for me to do the siding repairs while she was away and that she would contact me when she returned. I was willing to perform the siding work while she was gone but was unable to match the exact siding and wanted to get customers approval on new siding before any work was completed. I stopped work for the season at the beginning of December prior to customers return from vacation.I will follow up with customer to let her know that I will take care of siding when work resumes after winter. Best regards,Garrett Gildner

The roof for Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] was completed around the first week of October and everything was settled on the project shortly thereafter.  Upon completion I did a walk around the house with the homeowner and he stated that he was very happy with the project but had few minor details...

that he wanted to have addressed.  In addition, the disposal container that we had for the roof was to be left in the driveway for undetermined amount of time at the request of the homeowner so that he could utilize it for some interior projects he was doing.   With respect to the roof details, they included replacement of a small section of gutter, installing some caulk in a couple areas where he had concerns that insects may enter and couple other minor roof related details none of which negatively impacted the roof but in an effort to keep the customer happy I agreed to personally take care of each of them. In addition, Mr. [redacted] had two non-roof related items that we discussed the first of which was regarding re-attaching a couple pieces of j-channel that were against the wall above the garage roof and the second was bending up some custom bent aluminum that the homeowner wished to install above his garage door to fix some compromised wood trim around his garage door. I explained to Mr. [redacted] that I would be in his area at some point either later that week or early the following week to take care of the roof issues and gutter.I also explained that while I would be happy to take care of re-attaching the j-channel above the garage roof it would be best to have one of the siding guys handle that and I would coordinate that with a time in which I would also have the metal brake on my truck and could have the metal bent for around his garage door.  At that time I also explained that the j-channel repair and metal would be done as soon as we were able to but at the time we were behind on siding work and would have to wait until we were either caught up or possibly in between jobs and could have the metal brake on the truck and have a siding person available.  At that time, I told Mr. [redacted] that I would hope to take care of the metal and j-channel at some point over the next month or so.  I also explained to him that j-channel was purely an aesthetic issue and did not impact the roof in any way since there was ice and water protective shield and step flashing that was installed along the wall that was protecting the roof.  In addition, I also stated that since he was understanding about the j-channel and a pleasure to work with that I would be happy to bend up the metal for him for around the garage door as a courtesy to him.Subsequently, I stopped out to Mr. [redacted] house during what appears to be the week of October 16th and took care of the roof issues and replaced the gutter and upon doing so I also told Mr. [redacted] that I hope to be out his way to take care of the j-channel and bend the metal the following week or week after.  I also had the dumpster picked up at his house per his request on I believe November 1st and got a text on November 2nd thanking me.  The last contact that I had with Mr. [redacted] was by phone from a call I received from him either the first or second week of November in which he was inquiring about when I would be out with the siding person to fix the j-channel and I explained to him that we were still behind on the schedule but that I would get it taken care of and hoped to do so over the next couple weeks.  In viewing my phone I see one text message dated November 13 asking about status and I believe that may have also been the evening that we last spoke since I did recall receiving a text message and then talking with Mr. [redacted] before I responded to it.  The next text message is dated November 18 which quite honestly I probably missed since that was the Saturday before Thanksgiving it appears and I was either travelling that day or was already in Philadelphia for the holiday since the weather for the week of Thanksgiving was not good in Rochester.  In checking my phone log I do not show any calls from Mr. [redacted] number since November 15 and that is the furthest date that my phone allows me to look back, so it does not appear any attempts were made outside of the one text since that date by Mr. [redacted] to contact me. I still have every intention on taking care of the j-channel and look forward to doing so.  At this moment I have about a week left on the last siding job of the season and I have continued to be behind with the siding work since probably June.  Upon completion of the last siding job the rest of the the season will be dedicated to all remaining siding related miscellaneous projects of which Mr. [redacted] work will be completed.  In the meantime, the loose j-channel is in no way negatively impacting the roof which as I stated above is already protected with ice and water shield underlayment and step flashing regardless of whether the wall is covered in siding or completely exposed.

I am not sure why this complaint was filed by Ms. [redacted].  I did receive a call from Mr. [redacted] in early November about a roof leak and he described the area that the leak was in and identified a heat stack coming out of the roof as a possible reason for the leak.  I did go to Mr. and Mrs....

[redacted]'s house the day after I received the call and did a visual inspection of the roof and found no issues with the roof at all and determined it was most likely an issue with the heat stack itself.  A closer inspection was made of the heat stack about a week and a half later which was the day before Thanksgiving and it was found that the pipe was damaged most likely by wind which resulted in two issues.  The first issue was the pipe itself had been moved by the force of wind most likely in March or April when we experienced several bouts of high wind and resulted in the seal at the base of the rain collar (not where pipe meets roof) being broken and also the seam on the heat pipe was also starting to separate and both of these issues could allow water to travel down the outside of the pipe or even allow water to get into the pipe and be deposited into the attic space.  I also explained that it may also allow water to travel the length of the pipe all the way to the basement if water entered the seam and did not exit where lengths of pipe connected or at any elbows where the water may accumulate.  The last call that I received from Mr. [redacted] was in the first week of December and I responded to it I believe the following day of the two days later and explained to Mr. [redacted] that no issues with the roof were found and the issue was with the heat pipe.  I explained that as a courtesy new sealant was installed in the two areas where the pipe had been damaged but the sealant was roof sealant and not the liquid metal or whatever the sealant that was used by the HVAC person when the pipe was originally installed and it may be as effective since the pipe does extract some heat.  I also explained that the replacement of the pipe is more of an HVAC issue but let him know that if he did have the pipe replaced and it required a new base be installed that I would be happy to stop out after as a courtesy and inspect the installation to make sure the HVAC person properly installed it to the roof and did not damage the roof in the process.Mr. [redacted] seemed satisfied with the explanation and said he knew somebody was out at least once to look at the roof but did not realize that I had also been out to his house the day after he initially called about the issue.  He also said he would most likely be calling a HVAC company to replace the pipe and may take me up on my offer to inspect the roof after the new pipe is installed. With respect to the complaint I am not sure if the complaint was filed by Ms. [redacted] without her knowledge that I spoke with her husband or it was filed earlier in the day or within a day or two before I spoke with Mr. [redacted] but to the best of my knowledge everything has been resolved with the customer.
